  • Hey Cathead2008, the Catalyst shows were definitely among my favorites. I'm starting up a new

project with the original RS guitar player Doug Van Blaricom. For more info google my site.

    Be well. RS

  • FINALLY FOUND THIS! Did a great show at the Catalyst in Santa Cruz way way back. But I remember it well.

  • Very nice to find this. As a bouncer from One Step Beyond all those years ago I have searched and searched for this. Holds up well - I wish I could say the same for myself!

  • @WelLRoundeDSquarE snobby clubs that is.

  • @WelLRoundeDSquarE dunno, i'm from socal where people broke windows and ransacked clubs back in the early 80s.

  • didn't Robert play as "Mr. Clean" after this band broke up? Seems like we (The Reggies) opened for him as Mr. Clean one time....BTW I was a Roadie for The Reggies, not in the band....those were some awesome times be sure....Bonnie Hayes and the Punts were another great S.F. band then. I remember shows on Broadway St. with all the "Barkers" workin the strip club doors LMFAO The Fab Mab, The Stone, LeDisc were the main clubs then <:o)

  • @WelLRoundeDSquarE oh yeah, thanks for the reminder, One Step Beyond was a great club....a whearhouse that was "all ages" club, and open untill 4am...thats where Cerebral Corps played thier first live gig. :) and two good friends of mine did the Decor there lolol

  • Robert! Hey, glad to see this on YouTube! 1985ish. Berkeley Square. The Quake. Those were the days, weren't they? I've still got them LPs. Rock on!

  • So there is just 1 village idiot,, lol

  • @appleseedmachina every village needs one. Who ever could hate on this...the mind boggles. I hear this and I'm back in high school cruising around at 2 AM on Redwood and Skyline Blvd in the East Bay wasting my youth in the best possible fashion.

  • Cole/robert - I did not know there was a video made for this! Great song. Heard it via KQAK back in the 80s. Bought the Dotted Line EP back then. Saw one of your shows in the south bay. Hey, whatever happened to the bus?

  • Great tune! Love it!

    Brings back memories-and old spiderwebs.

  • Still sound fresh and vibrant after all this time. The SF scene was incredible then, and the years have witnessed the disappearance of so many great bands. Hearing your voice, and Doug's guitar again really brought back some great memories. Thanks for posting this. I've got the vinyl, but the video adds something to the experience, retriggers some different neurons. But, tomorrow, I'm spinning up Dotted Line. Very loud. Thanks for sharing, then, and now.

  • I almost tore off the plastic on a friends 12" vinyl of theQuake compilation album that featured this song until i found someone that already had it. I always pictured Mountain View Cemetary whenever i heard this song, good place for a scooter ride

  • Wow, never knew there was a vid to this. Have the 12". Looove this song still after so many years! Thanks!

  • So rad. Thanks for posting this. Missed this song!!!

  • This was one of my favorite songs of the eighties. Great video. Yay!

  • Hey there, glad to hear there's a fan in Hong Kong - I just checked iTunes and the Christian Boy Download is available. Thanks, Be well. Best, -Cole / Robert

  • I too have been looking for this song for AGES. I was starting to think it was a figment of my imagination.

Hey, you guys have a huge fan in Hong Kong.

If you put the song on iTunes somehow, let me know.

  • yes I looked also

  • Wow .. just WOW - Robert Seidler you are the man ! I have been searching for this song for like 10 years - I can't believe there is a video of it ! I don't think I missed a single concert of yours that I could possibly get to. Blasts from the past venues like One Step Beyond - wow. We had friends in common and we met a few times and hung out after shows.

Are you still music? What are you doing these days, and is there anywhere to purchase your albums, CDs, whatever? Simply a HUGE Fan here

  • @Guitons Thanks Man, I appreciate the good words. One Step Beyond was a nice club as I recall. I'm doing a little Music on the side - I'll post if anything worthwhile crops up. Take care ~

  • never get sick of this song...hi robert.... -MARO

  • WOW, what a gem. And to think there was a video for it. Hadn't heard it in...jeez I have no idea how long it's been. I so miss the Quake, it was a sad day when it died, it defined my high school years - Redwood High, class of '85

  • Every time I drive in the Oakland cemetary with outta town visitors, I bust out singing this refrain. (Such awesome harmony there.) The 20somethings have no idea about your song so I make sure they get some education. Thanks tons for a great tune!!!

  • Thank you so much for posting this vid!!!! I first heard/ saw this video on videowest out of SF and then again on Night Music out of san jose I have copy from night music I daubed back in the day its grainy as all hell but I love it. this song is timeless!!!!

  • I wanted to download this song on itunes but I couldn't remember the name of it. Then I typed in the famous chorus line. No more scooter rides in the cemetary. I found an article where I guy wrote about this song. That's how I found out the name of the song Christian Boy. Then I was singing this song in the car once, and my daughter heard me sing the chorus. Now when we pass by a cemetary she says hey daddy sings the chorus too. lol

  • thank you for this bit of Classic Music ,I never forgot this song , I was in high school this was My song

,, hanging at the punk scene going to shows like Mistaken Identity ,, Ribzy ,, Living Abortions,, TSOL,, etc

  • Wow...had no idea there was a video for this tune...totally love this song. Thanks so much for the post!

  • Freaking great song. First heard it back in 84/85 on the Kqak compilation. Played it to death!

  • This song has been going through my head for the last two weeks, and I'm so glad to have found this video! It's the quintessential song from the 80s and brings back amazing memories. Thanks for posting it.

  • - I remember buying the Quake album when it came out. Listened to it over and over again. This song in particular stood out...

  • If you haven't heard Mr. Wiggley, I suggest you do so

  • i mean uncle wiggley

  • One of the best Dance Oriented Rock ever... that and other hi energy songs like

    -Plimsouls - Million Miles Away

-Wire Train - Chamber of Hellos

-A Flock of Seagulls - Iran *wink*

Just tried to buy Christian Boy online through Amazon but wasn't allowed to download it from Japan.

    WTF!

  • Go to iTunes!

  • Cole - thank you for posting this online! For me, it's an anthem that defines the Modern Rock/New Wave era. Growing up down the street from a cemetery this song hit home pretty close. Be well and Happy New Year!!

  • great guitar work. I always thought it was interesting that a lot of the alt/post punk bands did those harmonic things before the metal bands.

  • brilliant song. i've got this on some 80s mixed tape that my older sister or one of her boyfriends made.

    always liked it a lot.

  • Maravilloso!

  • Studio West

  • OMG YES the Quake! god those were the days.

  • I still have my KQAK tshirt, bumberstickers magazines and vinyl Best of '84 album. love it

  • ,,,AND YES, THE QUAKE WAS THE SHIT!! still see some of those bumper stickers if I;m lucky...

  • I remember that and '412' and the Paladium... we hit up all them on Broadway and Columbus, etc. ..

    Will never forget those times.....

  • awesome! i still have the quake tape.

    does anyone remember "the undrground"

    nightclub in san fran?

i used to be a regular at one step beyond too!

  • I would kill to have a copy of that tape. I can't believe that it's been 25 years since the Quake was the shit.

  • In 1983, I had just turned 21, I went to the Catalyst in Santa Cruz, the opening band was from the Bay area. The name of the band was Mr Clean aka Robert Seidler, needless to say, I have been a fan ever since. Did a search on youtube, and I find this, awesome, what a way to start my weekend

  • This song was the Bay Area anthem for the underground set in the 80's. Always good to hear it again!

  • Awesome!I can't get enough of this song! Oh the memories! Brings back memoriesThanks for the great memories,A very under-rated song.thank you thank you thank you nostalgia

    makes ya cry

  • hi guys... i'm marco from italy... i'm a Robert (in same way) relatives... i've got two records of him as solist... dotten line and cig sister... sorry for my english

  • I can't get enough of this song! It is brilliant! I am having a hard time believing that this was not picked up buy a major record label. This song kicks azz on all new wave songs from this era. I feel bad for Robert! He deserved major fame from this one.

The video is as awesome as the song. I love it when Robert busts out the 80's dance!!

  • Awesome! I ahve not heard this in over twenty years. It took me forever to find it. I couldn't remember the song name or the artist! The QUAKE was the best!

  • this is a good song. I downloaded it on itunes. I used to here it on live105 when I lived in San Jose. I could'nt remember the name of it. The phrase "no more scooter rides in the cementary" is what helped me find it. I typed it in googel. That led to the song and artist which I found on itunes.

  • Oh the memories! I remember going to a Seidler concert back in 1987 (in Pleasanton at the Veteran's hall) and really liking the concert. I don't know why, but by the time the opening act did their set, a lot of the audience had left and there weren't very many of us who stayed to watch Seidler.

I remember going backstage after the act and the band offering me a beer; very kind people and a wonderful concert!

  • Brings back memories. I want to get on my Vespa and drive down the road to the city. And pick up on a MOD chick.

    Thanks

    KM

  • Thanks for the great memories,Cole!Just to let you know,Christian Boy did make it to Las Vegas,NV and was played regularly on our local university station KUNV during alternative programming nights.Loved the song first time I heard it!College radio is not what it use to be!I hope everyone knows that your work is available on Itunes.Godspeed,Bro

  • A very under-rated song. Made way before the Britpop of the 1990s.

  • thank you thank you thank you

  • Omg the nostalgia here is huge...I remember listening to this on the quake and live 105 in the 80s. I havent been able to find it newhere since then YAY YOUtube~!!!

this song (for me) captures the spirit of the 80s so beautifully - just as much of an 80s anthem as Modern English's ' ill stop the world and melt u '

For he that posted this song? I love u!!! I havent heard it for years but I still have the lyrics memorized word 4 word :P

  • the person who posted it is the artist himself. he's local in sf bay area.

  • Wow Cole, talk about a suprise. This little film takes me back. I'm the proud original owner of a Dotted Line EP and have been beating the hell out of the 2 cassette copies I made off it for over 20 years now. I guess I better buy the Cd or download the mp3 before they give up the ghost. Would there be a little film of "Dotted Line" too, as I really liked that tune? Saw you with Wire Train 85 or 86? Twas a fun time. Thanks for posting!

  • hey cole, just got a copy of the cd. great work.

  • Whoa...I still have a copy of this song on cassette tape the The Quake (KQAK) a was selling back in 84/85. Great tape but I nearly wore out this track. Brings back such great memories!!!

  • Finding this song and now seeing it on Youtube I relized I have reached the end of the Internet. I spent several years looking for it in mp3. Awesome song. I too remember going to the Fab Mab, On Broadway, One Step Beyond and the Varsity in PA. Good times!!

  • too funny. I spent 5 years looking for the mp3, and almost wore out the cassette tape I have of the song from The Quake. LOVE the song

  • Cole, Really great music! I sure miss all the old clubs: I-Beam, Kabuki Noh Club, The Stone, The Keystone (caught 'Eddie and the Tide' there one night), The Farm, Mabuhay Gardens, One Step Beyond, Cactus Club (I used to work with Rob Francis there and at both SF and SJ Oases), and the radio stations: KQAK, KMEL (Rocking the Bay), KYA.

  • Could you please tell me if what I have written for the lyrics to 'Christian Boy' are correct? "No more scooter rides in the cemetery. Just gold satyr whips and memories?" I caught The Minute Men at CSM, and Eric and the Flying Terantulas in Berkeley at a frat house. In closing, will you be playing around the Bay Area any time soon?

  • Isn't it "just old spider webs, and memories"?

  • I first saw R.S. live in 87? At the Santa Cruz county fairgrounds! It was kind of a mini "Day on the green" featuring mostly local and California bands. John Butcher was supposed to play also, but was a no show. Seidler stole the show! I went the next day, and bought Christian Boy, and Sig Sisters!

  • Hey colepanther(aka Robert Seidler), this is such a blast from the past! I think S.F. Bay Area people of my generation would agree that this was a quintessential new wave song from the mid 80's. I seem to remember seeing you open for some group in 84 or 85. Who were some of the groups you opened for during that time?

  • Hello eribalsch, I appreciate your comment on the song - it had, and has a lot of meaning to me. We played with Billy Idol, A Flock of Seagulls, Oingo Boingo, Wire Train and others.

    Be well, - Cole

  • @colepanther hey Robert, fricking awesome song. Got this one on one of my sister's friends 80s tape.

had a bunch of really good stuff on it like tones on tail, blancmange, chameleans, fad gadget, wire, etc etc

  • He sounds a lot like Iggy Pop....or is it just me hearing that.

  • It's funny how music can survive garage sales and cassette tapes. Take Care Sowingseeds.

    -Cole

  • i bought this mixtape from 1989 from this woman's garage sale two or three summers ago and last year in my art class i started playing it and it became this insane favorite among my friends and i. christian boy was on it and we couldn't get over the lyrics hah. my sister has since borrowed the tape and i have not heard this in quite some time, but thank you thank you thank for you posting!

  • Ha, I finally found this lost gem! Had it stuck in my head the past year and thought it was "Catholic Boy" -

no wonder I came up empty..

Thanks so much for this song, Robert.

  • I'm glad you found the lost gem friend. -Cole

  • i remember the first time i heard this song. it was some time in the 80's, my dad brought home a casette tape and he was blasting it, and i think "no more scooter rides in the cemetery" is one of the greatest lyrics and the way it sounds is awesome!!!! hey, speaking of 80's radio and stuff do you remember the edge night club? great song robert one of the best of the 80's for sure.

  • What a great image - your father bringing home a cassette and blasting Christian - good stuff my friend - yes I vaguely remember the Edge -- wasn't it the old Keystone Palo Alto? Be well, -Cole

  • @colepanther the edge, yep that was palo alto.

  • @TheNewMusicNetwork wasn't the edge Keystone Palo Alto at that time? same family as The stone S.F. and also in Berkely? I'm about 99.999% sure of that lol.....Be well and Peace to all

  • Wait, live 105 was *NOT* cool. Not cool compared to The Quake.

  • Actually you are correct! I totally agree with you.

  • The Quake was far more edgier than Live 105 plus not as much repetition.

  • @girlina the quake? was that like kome? i vaguely remember that

  • Ah, fond memories of Robert Seidler, The Quake, San Francisco in the early 80s. I regret never seeing him in concert, but then again, I was only 13 yrs. old. I still own the vinyl. A little warped, but still plays. Hi Robert!

  • Hi Girlina - thanks for the good words - yeah the Quake was it! I'll be playing a set with the guys October 28th at the Hotel Arcadia in Oakland - will be coming on around 11:00 - some old songs some new. Be well, -Cole PS: I love your name...

  • Ahh... many memories of my youth are returning to me as I listen to this. One of my favorite songs. I remember when they used to play this song on "Live105.3" when that station was cool. Thanks for the post.

  • Great song..I lost my virginity to this song back in college (CPSLO)

  • Thanks for the suggestion. And what a wonderful place Youtube is. I didn't have to go any further than the search function to find out what Townes Van Zandt sounds like. I dig him and I'm going to look into finding some more from him. Thanks again.

  • Clete - Townes Van Zandt, " A Gentle Evening with Townes Van Zandt" from a 1969 Carnegie Hall Concert and "At My Window a 1992 studio release -- you can really get a sense of what the years did to this fine poet. DVD's Bob Dylan "No Direction Home". I'm inspired by the way Bob deals with the disapproving audience booing his electric show. So many artists are led around by their audience. -Cole

  • EDIT: And I've got a quick question for you Cole if you don't mind: What artist is getting the most spins on your CD player lately? I'm always looking for new stuff to listen to and you seem like the kind of guy who can point me in the right direction. What's good right now?

  • Nice to meet you too, Cole. I was just bullshitting about that Divisadero Street story. I apologize for blowing smoke up your ass but I didn't realize that I was actually talking to Robert Seidler. I thought you were just some guy. And if truth be told I think I jizzed in my pants a little bit when I saw that your song was on YouTube. Christian Boy is definitely on my list of top 50 all time favorite tunes. Good stuff.

  • No problem Clete - nice to meet you. -Cole

  • EDIT: I just looked at Cole Panther's web page. Sorry for the misunderstanding.

  • Clete, that's a hard story to follow as Robert never walked down Divisadero Street - Occasionally he would pass through the area on his motorcycle - he walked North Beach, South of Market, and Sutter St. on the way to the Jean Shelton acting school. He was known for being difficult and temperamental at times to band mates and girl friends, but was always friendly to strangers - are you sure it was him? -Cole

  • One time back in like 1987 I saw Robert Seidler walking down Divisadero Street in San Francisco and I recognized him so I said, "Hey Robert Seidler, what's going on man?" and I guess he was in a bad mood because the fucking asshole kicked the roast beef sandwich I was eating out of my hand and then he told me to get the fuck away from him. True story.

  • It brings back the best of them! It is nice to meet you by the way, my name is Mike. I live in the bay area as well. What have you been up to musically?

  • Glad to hear they were good memories. Hi Mike, I just did a show at the Edinburg Castle in SF and prior to that a benifit at the Uptown in Oakland with Translator and the Uptones, for the late Victor Ratto, the guy who used to run the Berkeley Square.I'm currently in the studio working on a new album.

  • great song, great video!!!

  • Thanks bbags25,

    -Cole Panther aka Rober Seidler

  • I only know of a few songs that bring back childhood memories, and this is definitely one of them!!!

  • Childhood memories can be complicated, I'm hoping that Christian Boy brings back good ones for you friend.
