@banjoman2375 ...without the strings this would just be three minutes of an arpeggiating piano melody..I think the strings are what really give the piece character.
I really enjoy the feeling that this song brings to me, though I don't know if you produced any more works, I will be sure to look into it. The only I could possibly suggest is add some drums, then again, I love a solid percussion element to songs. As to what it is, it reminds me more of something Pink Floyd would make.
No, i mean you're correct, you're not being rude. I began to realize that it's classification would be dubious...it's not exactly minimalism or process music, and it certainly wasn't well-written or planned out (given that it was an assignment with a due date). I think my attempt at classifying it as something and writing about it highly in the description was a bit pretentious (in fact, I might take it out completely).
Though I do have one slight criticism of your point: I dont think you should be personally offended when others make music and mis-classify it. I attempted writing music, posted it on youtube, and some people are enjoying it. Im happy for that, be it a very small achievement. But I think by feeling anything than just minor annoyance, youve internalized a growing "intellectualization" of music and perhaps are seeing it with too many classification barriers. But that's a detail. =]

@radioactive1415 You on the other hand have created a peace that is very astheticaly pleasing and very enjoyable at its entertainment value. On the other hand, from a intelectual standpoint wheather it be process or minimal... it honestly fits into both catagories but who cares its enjoyable and the only reason process composers or minimalist composers write music is because they enjoy it... or they get paid rediculouse amounts to write it so someone else can
As much as I value your attempt to write a process (commonly mistaken as 'minimalism') piece, I must say this is not quality music. in process music, all the elements work together to compliment each other. By writing the 'melodies' as independent units you have destroyed any cohesion there might have been. Also, resorting to pictures to convey your ideas destroys any programmatic element the music may have had to begin with.
@EineKleineLichtmusic As much as I value your attempt to write a comment as a process musician (commonly mistaken as valuable), I must say this is not valuable criticism. In music, expression is in the ear of the beholder. By writing melodies to rhythm with any assortment of harmony he has created "music. Ignorant and Ridiculous and Rude comments like this destroys and magical element we both know that this music had to begin with.
Minimalism in orchestral music is lame. It's supposed to tell a story, and capture emotion. It cannot do that through reiteration of a few notes. But minimalism in modern music can be brilliant. Reiteration doesn't take away from the story if the lyrics and soul of the vocals are strong enough. All of Nirvana's music was basically reiteration. Brilliant lyrics, catchy melodies, and breathtaking emotion all put together to make the listener feel personally tied into every line.
Yeah dude, it's modern minimalism. Like the guitar playing and the melody of the lyrics are very minimalist. I'm not trying to start an argument tho, man. :)
somebody tell me the relationship between this kind of harmony and the harmony of classical music eg mozart or beethtoven.they seem like completely different animals.
i just mean it has nothing original in it. it is just a poor boring replica of a real water music that you can listen to if you go in the woods by a brook or something like that..
Very nice but I have to say that, in all honesty, the guitar takes away from the piece. I would really like to hear what this would sound like with the guitar emitted.
I'm actually going through personal conflict over whether or not the styles comprising the "Post-Modern" era of music is even worthy of acceptance. Sometimes I wonder if minimalism, serialism, and atonality are even legitimate styles of music altogether! Some really enjoy these styles... some say they lower the standards of "the audience's ear" and tend to glorify and exalt "the composer" as an individualist and egotistic expresser, and that those who think they enjoy it are fooling themselves.
minimalism, serialism etc are absolutely legitimate forms of music, a number works written during this era i consider some of the greatest ever, anyway, this piece is amazing, i wish i could write like this, have u studied music?
Interesting thought that I have really not thought of before, though I believe that minmalism, serialism and atonality are legitimate styles. I enjoy the depth and emotion that goes into them. You might not find that with these, but it just depends on the indivitual. I do believe it will lower the standards of "the audience's ear" if they are listening to it without understanding it.
In a way, you're right. It was based on minimalistic ideas, but the introduction of the guitar and string-orchestra parts by me and my friend made this piece less minimalist.
this is the first time I've ever heard minimalist music...I think I've become a fan lol. Is this supposed to be amateur? This is nothing short of superb. I love it
hehe i imagine, everyone who does music gcse has to study minimalism along with pavane, waltz, bhangra and disco then has to make a composition around one of the said styles lol
That's a very close-minded statement. Music is for expression and minimalism happens to be one form of musical expression. Ever heard of John Adams? Is he lazy?
That type of comment no creative artist takes seriously. Personally, I am not the biggest fan of minimalism; I wrote the piece as a group project/presentation on water (and it was an amateur project).
But to say that it is just for "lazy people" and to imply that minimalist music doesn't fit into the category of "real" is superficial.
you know what now that i look at the comment i wrote, it really sounds rude. i really wasn't trying to be a dick. Your point is very valid and i can understand how people can enjoy this. I guess just because i don't like minimalist music it doesn't mean i have to say its bad. Sorry for being so rude and have a good day!
Good example of minimal music! The guitar gives the piece a "Floydian-esque" sound, wich is an unexpected bonus for the listener who`s not familiar with the concepts of minimalism.
It would be nice to hear a piece based on those concepts, but for two pianos (a la Reich...)
Also, check out my channel if you want to hear a couple of pieces for looped electric guitar & drums. You can give me your opinion there!
Really nice piece of music :)

I'd take out the guitar, personally, and the strings, but the piano is brilliant. Maybe try to make glitch out of it.
