Best way to farm hellstone:

-Make or find several gills potions

-Make or find several obsidian skin potions.

-Optional: Buy lots of Dynamite or bombs.

Once that's complete, you just bomb the living hell out of.... well Hell. no seriously, because hellstone can't be hurt by bombs & dynamite, but ASH can, you blow all the ash away, drink a gills & an obsidian potion, then you just swim around in the lava profiting from all the hellstone.

@natman981 Completely random underground, the layer background HAS to be the grey stuff though. like you know how it goes from dirt, to dirt + rocks, and then to grey & then hell? you gotta go to the grey layer, then just dig left & right until you find one.

Sly! when you beat skeletron you should search the dungeon for the technician. right click her to set her free. then you just got to get her killed... when she is dead and you are at ur home, go to the little house above the armor slot. there you will have some "banners" that symbolizes the NPC'. Click for example on the merchant banner and choose a room for him to stay in by left clicking it with the banner at hand. when you select a room for the technician she will move there sooner or later.

Sly, if you want to mine hellstone easily, make an obsidian skin potion. You need a bottled water, fireblossom, obsidian, and waterleaf. You need to go to the hell world though to get fireblossoms. Obsidian skin potion grants immunity to lava, but you can still drown
