The technique is called "os tres dedos" which translates as "three little toes". Because thats what you kick the ball with.

Forget Carlos, the "os tres dedos" master was Rivelino.

Er - it's just that one of them is left footed and the other is right footed. If the above freekick has been on the other side of the goal then McGugan would have gone outside the wall and in, Carlos would have done the above. It's solely dependent upon which foot they use, the technique is EXACTLY the same.

Really amazing, but you shouldn't say its better than Carlos', since his curved in the other direction, looking like it was going out of the goal, but instead going in. Different type of free kick curve.
