What's strange is that I once had a textbook in a class that I took in high school that referred to the term "mongoloid" as a word that describes the orientals. I wasn't necessarily sure what to make of it. I told someone else about this reference in my textbook - which, ironically, I was not allowed to take home for study (hm) - and they exclaimed that mongoloid was a term that referred to people with Downs Syndrome. I don't remember how old the book was, but I did find the terminology odd....
The people who don't accept people diagnosed with Down's Syndrome is truly the "retarded" person, as they are genuine; beautiful, blameless souls who are eager to learn, in order to prove themselves. I've seen none of these people affected by the diagnosis who aren't striving to be productive members of society. They haven't the time to sit around and make derogatory remarks about others, because they are too busy helping other enhance their lives. We could all learn from these individuals.
@nebrpo- Not all people with disabilities are blameless. It's one thing to support people who have disabilities of any kind, but another thing entirely to idolize them. I have met many handicapped people and guess what? SOME of them are manipulative and sneaky because of people like YOU - people who are so bent on helping them that you forget that non-handicapped people deserve respect too. Not all people are ignorant. A lot, but not all. Everyone deserves respect, not just the handicapped....

There are so many diseases and disorders and that is part of life. Down syndrome is just a chromosomal disorder caused by the presence of all or part of an extra 21st chromosome.
I used to watch this sometimes. I felt sorry for the Corky guy. Especially because there's a popular chips here of the same name. It was brave and fun but I'm not sure why they made this series, did they want people to accept mongloid people, feel sorry for them or to laugh at them? Because they knew they would get some critism.
This is one of my all time favorite shows! I read that the pilot episode is the only one on DVD with the original song and a replacement theme was created for all other episodes due to high licensing costs for the Beatles song.

@nebrpo- Yeah, that never made sense to me. What about calling them special even makes sense in the first place? None of it does. As far as I'm concerned, no one is really "special", and MOST people just suck. It's almost an illusion. Talented - maybe, for some, but not special.
I'm not even elderly and I am fed up with mankind. I've gotten to the point to where I don't care who someone is; most people put me in a foul mood just because they speak to me.

@nebrpo- As long as you haven't used your disadvantage to manipulate others, then I don't have anything against you, but I do reiterate that I have the utmost hatred for people who make an entire group look bad. Since there are minorities in almost anything - most evidently - it enrages me to think that the majorities not only make life difficult for the minorities in their own group who are faced with stigma as well as those that they manipulate with their own downfalls. It's disgusting.

I've seen it. If you DO care about them, then you would care what kind of a person they are and how they treat people. All of them. Challenged people are better than you or me because God knew those people are strong enough to live with that, we wouldn’t be able to. But you or anyone else are free to believe whatever you prefer. There are so many diseases and disorders and that is part of life. Down syndrome is just a chromosomal disorder caused by the presence of all or part of an extra 21st chromosome.

I used to watch this sometimes. I felt sorry for the Corky guy. Especially because there's a popular chips here of the same name. It was brave and fun but I'm not sure why they made this series, did they want people to accept mongloid people, feel sorry for them or to laugh at them? Because they knew they would get some critism.
