  • where do you get the steamer from?

  • Nice tip, Fred.

  • I still don't really get how cosmoline can make it stuck. It's like Vaseline it shouldn't get stuck right,? But I fired 20 shots and the bolt was decent in the resistance it have me but after when I cleaned it. That's when it got stuck.

  • @619sandiegoSD It gets hard after being heated and coolef.

  • i had an m44 that i sold, i had to use a mallet to get the bolt up, and back. im gettin a 91/30 in a week er so.merry christmas, and a drunken new year.

  • Thanks, did this with my rifle. When it was fired I had to use all my strength to bring the bolt up, tried this and now it's really smooth.

  • I wasn't expecting that.....A steamer!

Lol i saw a video using a drill and some cleaning patches. I still have to find a way to do it as for I dont have a steamer

  • I steamed the crap out of mine but it almost feels worse than before. What did I do wrong?

  • i have the same problem happening with mine. after every round, i have to smack the bolt 3-4 times up and smack it once back. i dont see any cosmoline in the chamber, could cosmoline inside the bolt be an issue with the sticky bolt?

  • Mah-sin nuh-gawnt? Sorry sir, its 'Mo-zin Nuh-gahn'

  • I don't care if you do the safety check, its not like WE'RE going to get shot. :)

  • Wouldn't pouring boiling water into the chamber/bore work as well as steam?

  • my bolt sticks on mine even when not in use(when cleaning after not using a while) same issue?

  • @MetallicaPantera2010 Nice username!

  • stanley steamer keeps your guns cleaner

  • What kind of scope do you have and what is the eye relief. Also how many yards is the scope capable of viewing?

  • great idea!

  • I have had 2 Nagants the m44 and the 91/30 great guns. 7.62x54r is a good round too.

  • A 20 gauge bore brush works excellent to clean out the chamber, along with mineral spirits.

  • Great instructional video.

  • While cosmo does cause this, laquer coated and copper coated cases does this as well, shoot only Brassed case Ammo after you have cleaned it and you will never have this problem again. This is also true for the semi-automatic romanian snipers aswell those were not made to shot lead nose rounds FMJ only with brass case. I get alot of these sticky bolts in my shop every month.

  • This is one of the best sticky bolt videos! I have to do this with mine. That last time i shot it it was acting up! Your videos are always helpful! Thanks!!!

  • I used brake parts cleaner and a few picks and brushes to clean out my M-Ns (I have 3) It's quick, and the spray is easy to get into tight places with the "straw" type nozzle.

  • which scope mount are you using on the nagant?

  • @willwood487 I wish I could remember. sorry

  • Comment removed

  • @willwood487 dude the rear sight is removed, with punch & hammer CTD sells a kit hassle free but your better off drilling and tap mount kit. you can always youtube the handle ericanutto and look for the video proper way to mount a scout scope on a mosin

  • @ChicanoCW this was posted over a year ago. stop by and check out my mosin build

  • Damn I wish I watched this video when I owned my 91/30.. Fucking bolt was a bitch to extract a round.. had to damn near beat the shit out of it to get it to function.

  • Sweet!!! How's the kick on that fine firearm?

  • what's the song you use at the end?

  • Great idea! I finally have a use for the steamer I bought years ago lol

  • great video.

  • Another solution for the MN sticky bolt problem. Great idea, great video.

  • How much do those steamers cost?

  • @GunWebsites I'm not sure, it's the wife's :)

  • @fredhart

Looks pretty handy, thanks for the tip

  • Great info and great video as always

  • Good video! I like that scout style scope!

  • See fred, I have cleaned everything inside the bore of mine. AND polished everthing. Still cold bore BOOM! Bolt sticks first round :( But maybe I should try steam...

  • how do you get the moisture out im going to guess you just put patches through the barrel right

  • @aquosman99 Yep

  • Good Vid 5*

  • +1 on the Otis Tactical cleaning kit usage. :-)

  • @ZombieTactics Thank you friend

  • Good looking stock on that beastie.

  • what kind of stock is that?

  • @taiwanreef It's made by ATI

  • @fredhart - The ATI stock I bought for my SKS fits like crap !! I really regret getting it as it doesn't seat properly and often times I have to like reseat it by hitting it or pushing it back into place.. I also Fd up my gas tube guard parts trying to extract the pin..

  • stock*

  • i like that black monte carlo stok that you put on it fred

  • Neat Idea! I've used alcohol with a liberal amount of elbow grease; it takes awhile, and difficult to clean all the nooks and cranies, but it does work. Thanks Fred!

  • Another great one Fred. Good job on this video.

  • Mosin Nagant, like you're "mowing" the lawn. "Mow"-sin Nagant :) Dental picks, toothpicks, qtips, use whatever you can to clean out the locking lug grooves. That's a big time hideout for cosmo and grime and grit. Even the extractor cut out gets very nasty. Mineral spirits or alcohol is a good degreaser too. Avoiding lacquer coated ammo will also help. I don't know if steam is a good idea with the action in a wood stock. Removing would be prudent prior from a wood stock.

  • @MarshalZhukov isnt it like "mowing" the lawn, "Mow"-seen, Nagant is Na-gon(silent "t")

  • @45Blackjack Colloquially, it is like "mowing" the lawn with a "t" at the end. The proper foreign method of pronunciation is as you have listed with "seen" and a "t" at the end. Somewhere along the lines a "t" has manifested itself at the end of Nagant. It is widely accepted to be pronounced as "Mow-sin Na-gont" having been butchered by the English language some years ago. But if a Russian soldier were to say it, they would probably say it as: "винтовка Мосина" or "the rifle of Mosin."

  • One method that I have used multiple times and works great.... is to bring the cosmolined weapon (mauser/mosin etc) to the carwash with a 50gal trash can. Use the hot water wash with the added car enzymatic soap. Spray the high pressure wash into the bore, on the stock, and anywhere else you have cosmoline. Bring the rifle home....clean/oil and you are good to go.

  • I want one so bad, and they're very cheap!!

  • Fred you always have such great tips my friend. I would never have thought of a steamer to clean a gun.You have that Mosin looking good. They are selling those for $189.00 with all the extras plus 440 rounds. It is very tempting. Thanks for the great vid.

  • as a PS. you could always just dismount the action and let it sit in some gasoline in a shallow pan and dissolve it completely by simple chemical action and it's solubility in another petroleum distillate product, cosmolene is basically some serious grease

  • @80spodcastchannel Thank you, my intent was to show an alternatative to the chemical way of doing things. The steam really just melts the cosmolene away!

  • very very cool fred, guess rock hard cosmolene will ruin your shooting day

    Seeya

    Dude

  • Very good idea.

  • Great video, as always.

  • usframe crew loves the M-Ns, always like to see more on the subject!

  • @usframe Thank you friend
