I was sorry to hear about your loss but so happy to see videos of him. I have a big (not fat) Maine Coon boy who is 19 months old and the love of my life. They get so deep inside us and I bet you still miss him three years later. They are all such characters but I find male Maine Coons have even more little quirks than other breeds.

I am so sorry for your loss. From the way that you wrote about him, I can see that he must have had a really wonderful 8 years living with a good family. My experience with great cats who come into our lives is that they don't really ever leave. The sweet and the wonderful memories of time spent with him will stay with you and keep his nature alive. I lost my 20 pound m.c. this spring at about the age of 6 to renal failure. These big sweethearts are genetically disposed to so many problems, due to bad breeding. I will always miss my big boy and will never regret adopting him!

I am very sorry that he died so young. But you have lots of videos and photos to remember. My cat died in noveber, he was 12 years old. He hated to shoot, every time he turned and walked away and I let him be. And then he suddenly died due to bad vet and I have only about 30 photos. I have no video and I silently envy you. RIP

I had two Main Coons. The first (Michelob) lived to 13 before hyperthyroid disease took him. The other (Junior named after Michelob) was identical in size shape and color and was a stray that wondered into our garage a week after Michelob died. He really did have nine lives... He lived to be 7 before a freak eye disease took him. I'm sorry for your loss. They are an amazing breed!

I'm sorry for your loss, it's always tough when a Maine Coon dies because they're such a huge part of the family. I had mine for 15 years and he used to drink like that too, and sometimes eat that way as well. Beautiful animals :)

Our old Maine Coon drank a lot like that and loved to play in the water. In his prime he was up to about 26 pounds, but toward the end he was down to about 15. It was sad to see him go, he passed away Nov 2, 2009 at 17 years old. He had hyperthyroidism. He was a good old cat and I know I'll always remember him. I'm sure its the same with you, I'm sorry for your loss!

I have a cat which I got from the local cat shelter as a kitten...

Looking at YT videos of Main Coons and reading all the details on Main Coon websites, I think that she is a pedigree Main Coon...

Her physical characteristics, vocalisations, intelligence, and behaviour are all perfectly Main Coon-like. She doesn't have one un-Main Coon characteristic...

And now I'm suspicious and fearful that she may have been dumped at the cat shelter because of the genetic defect that causes heat disease...

my maine coon cat also drinks like this as well as off the sides of any cup or glass, as long as its wet......he just loves it. He will also eat with his paw as this cat is doing with his water.............Maine Coons are the MOST Awsome cats, and I am so happy that I have mine. I call him My Puppy-Cat............as he is like a doggie/kitty !

Louie hid his size in a funny way. He stayed scruched up (like an accordian) most of the time. When he streched out you could see how huge he was. And he wasn't fat. But the weight was from his vet. I have no idea about who was the biggest whatever. I just know about my Louie.

@snowmominator The story is that MCs sort of "unfold", and you really can't judge their complete size until they stretch out. Louie's weight at 30 lbs is not unusual for a male MC. The females are big, and the males are bigger.

Im sorry to hear of "Louie's" passing. have a seven year old coon cat named "tommy" as well. Last september we lost our Vizsla (dog) named "wille" (who ironicly was tommys best friend) to cancer. I think many people under estimate the amout of mourning a TRUE animal lover goes through when there best friend passes away. May Louie and every other derely loved pet rest in peace.
