I saw the original Kingston Trio in Raleigh, NC in 1960. Wonderful show then, and I still love those songs. I have (as far as I know) every LP they released through the John Stewart years. And, just like Lindsey Buckingham, I learned to play the guitar with my Kingston Trio records.
@BastarXO My dad said that people were always being replaced in this group so it was three and it made up the "Kingston Trio." They are all good if you ask me.
my father played folk banjo when i was growing up,so i heard the Trio from early on..great to see the torch is being passed and kept alive..great job!!
Blast from the past! Was reminiscing on this band as my dad use to listen to em all the time when we were kids. Particularly on those long rides upstate to go camping. Memorized all songs and lyrics during the 8 hr trek back and forth. Absolutely what real authentic folk music is all about and opened doors for me into other folk bands as well. Cheers to the Kingston Trio and the memories!
Mr. Shane--my very best to you--your wonderful music has enriched my life since I was a little girl listening to my older siblings' albums. You have truly made the world a better place!
What's the "French doubletalk" that I've seen referred to in various lyrics? All I can make out of it is the last bit, "bons vins que nous avons bûs", or "good wines we drank".
@smwca123 on our original sheet music it just says, "fake the French." We didn't even know what it meant. I've since heard that is is very old, quite bawdy french country song that has quite the dirty lyrics. So, even if I knew what it said, I couldn't repeat it here. :-) Bob Shane
I grew up with the original trio along with the John Stewart years. I really don't think it matters too much who it is that makes up the current trio as long as they are in harmony with one another. The songs that the Kingston Trio have performed over the years will live forever regardless of the makeup of the Trio. I thank them one and all for the memories. God Bless those who have passed on before us and especially you Bob Shane; you are the real heart of the Trio.
Sadly, this is not the true Kingston Trio... Two of the originals are gone and the third, Bob Shane, is too sick to perform any more... this is a good tribute to the trio, but alas, the trio is gone
@BstarXO Bob Shane here. I am definitely not too sick to perform...I perform with the current Kingston Trio all the time. I handpicked these guys and they are phenomenal. They sell out every venue they perform in. People are very interested in keeping the KT legacy alive and Rick, Bill and George do it fabulously.
@kingstontrio Mr. Shane.... Let me start by saying that i have NEVER been so happy to be proven wrong! :-) I am very pleased to hear your health allows you to perform …
I dearly love your work... I had the great pleasure to see you perform with the trio in Kansas City (Crown Center) in about 1987. It was an incredible concert and still one of my favorite memories.
@BstarXO Nice comments you sent...thanks! We've played in Tyler, Texas before, it's a nice place to perform. I'll have our manager call the venue there to see if they are interested again. Aloha, Bob Shane
@kingstontrio Secondly, let me apologize, I meant no disrespect to the current lineup of the trio… It is just that hearing the KT without the voice of Bob Shane is… like seeing a picture of a cheeseburger when you are hungry… it may remind you of the real thing, but it can never be as good…
@kingstontrio lastly, I hope that You and the Trio can come to the Tyler, Texas area so my kids can hear a live performance of music they have heard me play all their lives… Thank you for the update and Long Live the Kingston Trio!
@kingstontrio Saw the Kingston Trio 1/29/2011 in Gilbert, AZ....Great show!! I've seen all the configurations of the Trio and these guys can really sing...Great show, excellent vocals, lots of humor....and Mr. Shane was there to sing Tom Dooley and Scotch & Soda....Shane is right...These guys are absolutely first rate. I strongly recommend that you go see them if you get a chance.

@kingstontrio Bob Shane was a good friend of my father (who died in 1994), I kinda like to think that as long as he is around, my father lives on through their music . Mr. Shane do you remember the 65 Lincoln converible you wanted to buy from my dad? Blue, suicide doors. ...Earl Waren Show Grounds,,,
I believe they performed at this same place in the LP I have of them from the late 1950's. Some oldies stations still play the Kingston Trio on occasion, but it's almost always either "Tom Dooley" or "Scotch & Soda." They never play this song or "They Call the Wind Maria," which was one of their best, I believe.
this a great friggin song. lyrics good

Still good, but always need "the cow is blue and in the big cheese" which is "La vache est bleu est dans le grand fromage."

Sounds to me like "Ah, les fraises et les framboises et les bons vins [que] nous avons bûs..." So, none of the naughty bits here, just the berries ;)

I also have the LP from the late '50's. By the way, in the French, Strawberries precedes Raspberries.
