  • Can you put weed in them?

  • can you do this without egg? my child is allergic to egg =[

  • You're welcome.

    Margie

  • Thanks

  • Thank you! You give very good directions

  • Im so hungry

  • mmm...homemade fresh doughnuts! i wonder how would it taste like? nice soft warm

  • What a great idea.

    I will look into it.

    Margie

  • Outstanding! Please make chocolate cake donuts with chocolate glaze!!!

  • Gold Medal Regular White Flour is the type of flour that I use.

I believe almost any brand of flour will be fine for this recipe.

    Thank you for asking.

    Margie

  • i want to know what kind of flour did you use because there are many brand. Thank you

  • There are several things that can happen to cause the dough to be too heavy.

    Adding too much flour.

Baking Powder that is not active. Add a few drops of water to a tsp. of baking powder it should bubble.

If the dough is allowed to rest for 15 mins. before frying helps to make them lighter.

    Hope I helped a little.

    Margie

  • You're quite welcome. It's the least I could do after you helping me through baking my first donuts ever alive and well haha!

I live in Amsterdam (The Netherlands), often visit relatives in Los Angeles though :)

I have a question though. I made them and they turned out pretty good. I found the though a bit 'compact' how can I get them to be more 'fluffy' on the inside?

  • Thank you so much, this is wonderful information.

I will put a note at the top of the video info that this info is available to them in the comment section.

    Where are you from?

    Margie

  • I'm sorry

for some reason it won't allow linebreaks in my measurements comment

  • I really wanted to make donuts yesterday, found this video which was a great help (I had never done anything like the before). However I ran into a problem, I'm on the metric system and not familliar with cups (even though I have spent a lot of time in the States) so I spent some time converting and wanted to share the list with everyone here for the next person who wants to make these but isn't familliar with cup measurement. As I don't have enough text left I'll post it in a new comment:

  • Try this!!

    My whole family love it!!!

  • I am sorry to hear that! Maybe too much flour. Did you test the baking powder to be sure it would work..we have a video on that.

    Margie

  • i made these doughnuts the other day. they looked really good but were very hard n stiff. not sure what i did wrong plz help tnx

  • I really LOVE your videos.

My boy friend loves donut, and I can't believe the way you show us was so easy!

Please keep posting new video, I love your candy too~~!

    Karlie from Hong Kong

  • absolutely, both of these ideas will on make a difference with the flavor, and that is simply a matter of taste.

    Nutmeg is traditionally used.

    Margie

  • dear Marjorie, just made these lovely doughnuts and they are really good. would cinnamon be OK instead of nutmeg or together. could one use vanilla essence to replace or add to the other two? thanks alot from the island of Malta in Europe.

    leonard

  • I can't wait to make this recipe first I need canola oil or could I use olive oil instead ?:/

  • That's the biggest rolling pin I have ever seen O.o. Great recipe :)

  • Thank you it is nice to know more exactly how much liquid is used.

I sort of just keep adding liquid until I like the way it looks.

    I really appreciate that info.

    Margie

  • To make doughnut icing:

    1/3 cup powdered sugar

1/2 cup milk ( or until smooth enough to put on doughnuts)

    1. Mix together until smooth then glaze on doughnuts

    Enjoy the doughnut icing ;)

  • That is awesome!!!

    Thank you so much, Margie

  • love this video!

  • now that's what i call a rolling pin

  • No, No!! it is only oil and I use canola oil. Do not put any water in it.

When I place the doughnut into the fat I did it wrong. I should have allowed the doughnut toe enter the oil about 1/2 " and then carefully let it go. Then the oil would not have splashed. I was luck I did not burn myself. Therefore please be careful.

I hope you like them. Let me know.

    Margie

  • NO Unless you want to make the doughnuts taste like olives.

  • Will olive oil work?

  • HI, I actually just made this recipe today and I loved it. Thank you so much for this my son is 4 and he could not stop eating them. Once again thank you so much.

  • I eat doughnuts cuz I'm fat^o^

  • Thanks

  • Yummy

  • thats beautiful! very good vid,, ur kitchen is also very nice*)

  • Yes, you are right!!

It is sort of hard to explain how to place the dough into the fat, and my example on the video was not very good. It was more like what not to do.

If you allow the dough to break the surface of the oil and then let go of it. The oil will not splatter on you.

But in any case be very careful

    Thank you for your comment.

Sorry that was not more clear.

  • What's the real amount of flour.? Cuz' it's different in the "show more' and in the video it has a writing board and it says it different.

  • I love dooughnuts so much that i like to go to Walmart and get some from the bakery dept and eat them all at and they have a lot of fat in them thats why i like them i could eat them until i get sick man

  • So when i can inside from riding my dirt bike with the go pro cam, i can chow down on grandma's donuts =D

  • Hi! Can I use safflower oil, or will it not come out as nice as canola?

  • Yes, The yeast doughnuts are a raised dough.

    Which needs to rise.

The cake doughnuts use baking powder and requires no rising time.

    Thanks for the question.

    Margie

  • Hi i just wanna are these donuts different than donuts made usign yeast?? ty

  • Yes, but the flavor of the butter will be lost.

Substitute melted shortening, not oil. Your could use oil, but then you may need more flour, which would dry the doughnuts out a little.

Unfortunately it seems we always have to give up something...

    Thank you for your question.

    Margie

  • can i not use butter?

  • If the she you are referring to is me...thank you

It is awesome that you are from Chile. What area? I use to have a friend from Valparaiso named Falke. He was a great swimmer he played water polo and he taught my son to swim.

    Thank you for your comment.

    Margie

  • she is so sweet!! :D thanks for the recipe!! im going to try it!! greetings from chile :)

  • I'm so making one Tommorow rofl

  • What does that mean, a doughnut maker. Is that a funnel that allows some dough to come through and then cut it off. Because...this recipe is more of a dough that is rolled out than flows through a funnel.

Just thought you might like to know that.

If you do try this recipe I hope you like it.

    Margie

  • I have a donut maker and I decided I want to try this recipie sounds yummy!

  • Great !

I wish I had a fresh doughnut right now.

    Thank you for your comment

    Margie

  • omg i just made them they are great

  • Yes, water instead of milk would be ok.

  • can i use water instead of milk?

  • I guess you are just going to have to make them, HaHaHa

    Margie

  • these donuts r really good i wish i was in that viedo for the tasters lolz hahahhahaha that is so funny

  • I try to not use a lot but I do like to have it available.

I keep my flour in a pretty large container so I use a large scoop.

    Margie

  • I love how you have a scoop of flour just sitting there lol

  • I don't have a kitchen thermometer, what is 360 degrees F. on an electric oven dial? eg. 1?2?3?4?5?6?

  • i am making these right now and they are amazing i with i found these out sooner they are beautiful !!!!!!!!!! thankyou heaps

  • What's actually really funny is that every weekend someone writes me that they are going to make these doughnuts and that motivates me to make them to. This weekend I am going to try and resist.

Thank you and yes it is a big and the best rolling pin I have ever had.

    Margie

  • biggest dough roller hehe

i am going to make them for my family thank u heaps

  • I think it would have been better if the person filming wouldn't have been eating sunflower seeds at the time.

  • Thank U Too, Im try this recept :-)

  • Biggest dough roller ever

  • I made them on Sunday and doubled the milk by accident so I had to make a double recipe. I ended up giving doughnuts to most of my neighbors. One recipe makes 12.

    They were soooo good.

  • i can't wait to try these!

  • Let us know how you like them.

It's Sunday am maybe I will make some.

    Thanks for the idea.

    Margie

  • I'll try these soon! I just used another recipe to make donuts earlier today.

  • So happy you tried and liked the doughnuts.

    Thank you,

    Margie

  • i tryed these are they tasted so good thank you

  • Yeah it is pretty great. I forget just how great it is until I use a regular one.

  • That's one hell of a rolling pin!

  • i just m,ade them and they are soo good rating: 10 stars!!!!!!!!

  • I buy things from a number of places.

    Be more specific.

  • Where id you buy the ingredients?

  • I always made the Pillsbury type cinnamon buns for my son on Christmas morning because if I had made them from scratch I figured he would never do that when he grew up. I wanted him to have a tradition that he could easily duplicate.

He is 23 now and doesn''t live at home anymore so I guess only time will tell.

Thank you for letting me know that.

  • A doughnut whose raising agent is baking powder is called a cake doughnut. When the raising agent is yeast the doughnut would be called a raised doughnut.

I saw a doughnut the other day make with yeast and the main ingredient was potatoes. I may try that.

    Thank you for the question.

    Margie

  • If they font have yeast are they always referred to "cake donuts" ?

  • They are awesome even not stoned!

  • im stoned and this is awesome

  • That is a belque (not sure of the spelling) they are great pots. I have been using these pots for my candy for years.

  • I am pretty used to it but it does freak everyone out when I use it.

  • is that king kongs rolling pin ?

  • I have that exact same pot!

  • yeah

  • donuts are shit...

    is not healthy!

  • thank you

  • Wow that is awesome!

    Have you tried them?

    Thank you, Margie

  • The best video to make donuts :) Thumbs up for you :D

  • Sometimes just warming something up a little maybe 10 sec. in Micro. helps.

But the truth is, do you remember the commercial where this guy keeps leaving his house saiying " It's time to make the doughnuts." then he meets himself at the door saying that and say "I already made the doughnuts? I thought that was such a great commercial. Meaning that fresh is the best!!!

Freeze them individually wrapped. .Thaw completely before unwrapping.

Do that just after you make them.

    Thank you,

    Margie

  • i made them, they turned out great. thanx for the helpp....!!

one more thing is there any tip for keeping the donuts soft frm outside...!!!

  • That would be a sour cream doughnut...I love those!

    Yea, this is not that.

    Did you try them?

    Margie

  • FINALLY a doughnut that isn't crunchy :)

  • Test the Baking Powder to see that it is working (1 Tablespoon of warm water in bowl , add 1 tsp. of your baking powder. This mixture will become foamy immediately if the BP is fresh )

Be sure the oil is hot enough, best to use a Thermometer to keep track (360 degrees F. and bring it a little higher because the cool dough will bring down the temp. for a few moments.

Mix the BP into the flour, do not add it directly to the liquid part of the recipe.

Let me know how things go .

    Margie

  • i made them but mine didnt rise during frying... can u help me plz..!!

  • will it not be soggyyyyyy ????? :)

  • Yeah, it is awesome, a lot of people mention it. Never realize what a big impact that would have.

I got it at a restaurant supply store and I love it.

    Thanks for your comment,

    Margie

  • HOLY CRAP!!! now that's a rolling pin

  • That is a very good question. 10 minutes is good. The resting just allows the baking powder to create some gas and lighten up the dough.

Let me know how they turn out.

    Thanks, Margie

  • 1 question, for how long do i need to rest the dough? thank you :)

  • That is great, I am so happy that you tried them.

    Margie

  • Thanks you!!!

    Its very tasty!! :)

    iloveit.

  • There is a town in Illinois called Longgrove. There they have two special festivals a year; applefest and strawberryfest. And there is a bakery there called the Applehaus that makes apple and strawberry doughnuts for the festival that are very very popular. They have real stawberries and apples added to the doughnuts, and there is a line around the block for them.

  • I used it instead of the nutmeg and the whole family loved it

  • I will try that.

Did you do that along with the nutmeg or instead of it?

    Thanks for the comment

    Margie

  • I used a tsp of Vanilla extract and it made them taste very good

  • Please check out my donut RECIPE video! And comment please (:

  • those look great!!!!!!

  • We are going to make the raised doughnuts pretty soon, So that should be fun to try! And by the way thank you.

    Margie

  • We are going to make the raised doughnuts pretty soon, So that should be fun to try!

  • i tried it and my WHOLE family loved them

  • ny spice that you would like your donuts to taste like but only use a small amount.

Nutmeg is the traditional flavor for this type of pastry, but if you would rather not use the nutmeg try something else only be careful not to use too much because.there is not so much nutmeg that the doughnuts taste like nutmeg, there is just this hint of a nutmeg flavor. Let me know how it turns out.

    Thanks, Margie

    Thank you for the question.

    Margie

  • what can be a substitute for nutmeg?

  • That is fantastic!!! and thank you so much for your comment

    Margie

  • Try a wok that has a temperature dial... The light on the dial will turn on when it's reached the precise temp.

  • Probably, I have never tried. Remember to adjust the recipe minus the salt and baking powder.

    Margie

  • Can u use self raising flour? Answer I'm making it now

  • Awsome

  • How do you know when the oil is the correct temperature?

  • Use a wok for frying. It's easier & you don't need a thermometer.

  • I used plain flour.

    Margie

  • is it plain flour or self raising

  • I got it at Penn Fixture in Pittsburgh, PA

They do not carry them anymore.

It is not stainless steel it is aluminum.

I love this rolling pin. It is heavy but that is what makes it nice. I tried to use a wooden one once and it was weird. It was just too light weight.

    Thanks for your comment.

    Margie

  • Where did you get that rolling pin? looks heavy duty.. is that stainless?... I want one.

  • The only thing I can think of ix that while adding the flour allow it time to absorb the liquid.. Another cup of flour may be too much .When I say time I mean just a few minutes. Dry ingredients are interesting that way.

Let me know if this helps.

    Margie

  • i tried your recipe and my family says there good but i think there a little heavy/tuff any ideas? also i had to add about another cup of flour because the dough was so sticky...i live in the northeast they fried up well but when they coold down the just seemed very heavy. very easy to make though id like to perfect it

  • Ok,ok ...Let's try to figure out what went wrong.

2 things that might make that happen that I can think of are

    1. Using a thermometer to measure the oil

    2. Being sure to roll them out to the correct thickness

    What do you think?

    Margie

  • my donughts tured out to be fucked up no good undercoocked from inside and burned from out side lolxxx dont know what went wrong

  • @005usman Temperature's probably too high!

  • Oh and by the way, we will be doing raised doughnuts (by request) in 2 weeks.

We are always looking for requests

    Margie

  • Thank you for your nice comment.

    I try.

    Margie

  • this looks veery easy to make i cant wait to try it! thanks for putting the ingredients in the description and the warning about the handle was very thoughtful as well. thanks so much.

btw that has to be the biggest rolling pin i ever saw :)

  • can i substitute something for eggs?

  • Thank you very much.

    Margie

  • Excelent preparation

  • It works great in my little kitchen

    Margie

  • 0:28 is that a little cutting board table? i want to get one of those so bad :(

  • Thanks for the very nice comment.

    Margie

  • wow! look so good!

  • Yes, that is a wonderful idea. thank you.

Brown sugar would also add to their flavor.

    Margie

  • And they are really good and I haven't had breakfast yet

    I'm going to make some.

Thanks for giving me the idea.

    Margie

  • @MarjoriesCandies Can you use Brown Sugar instead of White Sugar?

  • it looks good!

  • Doughnuts need to be eaten fresh, sorry.

    But doughnuts freeze beautifully.

Wrap them individually and freeze. When a doughnut is removed from the freezer leave it in its wrapping allowing it to defrost completely..

    Margie

  • I've tried this recipe, but after 1 day it gets very hard!

  • That is so funny!!!

I take really good care of it because rolling pins like that are hard to find.

    Margie

  • is that a rolling pin or the front of a steam roller?

  • Thank you.

Next week we are putting up Raised doughnuts.

We are making them tomorrow. I am looking forward to that.

My new years resolution has lasted long enough!

    GO STEELERS!

    Margie

  • they look breath taking..thank you!!

  • I wonder if there is some way that I could help you.

Maybe test your baking powder. I have a video on my channel for that, But all you do is take a bowl and combine 1 TB Baking powder with the 1 TB water, it should fizz up if it is still fresh.

    ?? humm, Margie

  • Mine didnt turn out like they did for you.

  • Glad you liked them.

Wish I had at least one of them right now myself.

    Thanks for your comment,

    Margie

  • we just made hem they a so good thanks for the receipe

  • That is great!

    Glad you liked them.

    Margie

  • just made some good:).

  • Thank you very much my children and I will soon be making the chocolate bowls. We will also be putting chocolate covered strawberries in them as well. Thank you for your help. Jamie

  • I would start with allowing your children to help with the measuring and putting together the pumpkin pancakes. Then you can cook them up.

Then of course the Chocolate Balloon bowls.

I would stay away from the Bourbon Balls Ha

Maybe dipping fruit in a little dark chocolate.would be good.

Let me know what you end up doing.

    Thanks,

    Margie

  • Thank you. Which ones of your videos do you suggest I watch to make something with my kids? And by the way I am a doctor and I am aware of which things are bad for children's health. Thanks, Jamie

  • Frying involves very, very hot oil. Start by heating the oil on the back burner. Please do not allow your children near the stove during the heating of the oil and the frying of the doughnuts... BUT the children certainly can help with all the other prep work. Have fun! be safe.

Doughnuts are not a healthy snack! Sorry Because these are homemade they should taste better than from a fast food restaurant.

Just allow one doughnut for each person.

    They freeze really well.

    Margie

  • I have two daughters (one 6 and one 3) and I was wondering I'd this would be a fun thing do do with them or do it by my self. Also, are these ones better for your Heath than the ones at let's say Mc Donald's? I love all of your ideas and could you please tell me which ones would be gun for my kids and me? Thank you,

    Jamie
