That is true,but that commercial with McGruff was one of the very first. When this came out ( approx 1980 ) so many states ( including here in Tx ) did not have the "Make My Law" or the "Castle Doctrine" or whatever you want to call it.

Guess they need to do a remake for "Gun Friendly" states.

So many questions, like for one

1) Exactly, why did HE break into another person's house. It would make more sense to have a scary burgalar do it while he was looking inside and informing us

2) Did the people not see him or ignored the fact that a 5'1 beagle with a trenchcoat and flashlight walked into their house

3) Where's the alarm?

4) If they locked the door, how does he get out?

2 = Also a good question, but they could have been sleep initially. But I can't explain why one didn't freak out after seeing him. Maybe he was only visible to the audience in the commercial and the family thought another relative left the door open. Yes I'm thinking too hard over this question, lol.

3 = Well back in those days, most people didn't have alarms because they could trust their neighbors (that "it takes a village" thing) and people weren't as scandalous when it came to other people's property.

4 = all he had ot do was flip the latch like the lady did, open hte door himselfm walk out and close the door behind him. Tehn again there's that "only visible to the audience thing" and he could have jsut faded away like a ghost.

2) The people could be sleeping.

3) Many people in suburbs(many think of it as heaven where no crime will ever come).

4) Alarms were a thing for only pawn shops and jewelry stores and anything dealing with the sort.

McGruff just broke into their house, I bet when the cameras stopped rolling he rolled their tv for drug money, I always had a suspicion about that dog ever since I saw him throw up gang signs and told me not me not to join a meth gang. Something about his eyes, I never fully trusted him. :(
