  • Blackie, you're great.

  • Before anyone starts judging, they should read Scar Tissue.

  • Comment removed

  • Oh my god.....Blackie is such a horrible person. He never gave his son a chance. This is what happens folks. Blackie was such a failure as a father that his son became a millionare rockstar, fronting one of the biggest bands of all time. What's worse is that Anthony is being inducted into the Rock N' Roll Hall Of Fame this year. OH THE HORROR!!!! How can Blackie live with himself knowing his son is such a failure.

  • @murfdog19 what? dude are you kidding? ok he did some things as a father that no other father would do but what he was trying to avoid was giving anthony the childhood that he went through. he wanted anthony to feel free. anthony doesn't blame his father entirely for his past. Anthony has always loved his father and still does. if it wasnt for Blackie the red hot chili peppers probably would have never came into existence. Anthony is an inspiration to all listeners out there.

  • @JEWFanMarshall I think you completely missed the sarcasm of my comment.

  • It's very sad to me that Anthony lost his childhood so young, but something tells me that he would have done all the same things without his father's help. Having read his book, I'm rather impressed with the respect and love he has for his father. My dad was the opposite of Blackie in every way, but I'm not very close to him; I'm too busy tiptoeing around making sure that he doesn't find out all of the 'bad' things that I've done.

  • I wish my dad was like blackie :(

  • @vrad9950 No you don't.

  • @TheWhitefucks Yea i actually do my dad is no better at least blackie would let me live my life and repect me.

  • @vrad9950 no you dont want blackie as a father. you want a father that will stop you from making mistake but at the same time will give you the space in between to feel free to do what you want and have fun

  • Blackie, Iggy Pop's brother!

    RHCP Ftw.

  • You guys might think really bad about this now but it is a lot easier to understand if you read Scar Tissue by Anthony. He explains what happened in those days a lot better than they were explained here.

  • Anthony seems to be charitable and good with people. RHCP are terrific so he did okay.

  • Blackie, you raised a fantastic and succesful son. None of us are to judge. All I know is that your son loves you so what more is there?

  • what is the song at the beginning?!?!?

  • @123string4 Hole "Celebrity Skin" from mid 90's.

  • I know kids whose fathers are business men or medics and they also do drugs.. but most of them are stupid assholes and have no idea of live. just look what happened to anthony: he was very good in school, is a genius in writing lyrics and became a rockstar therefore. he's living a happy life. so what did blackie wrong? he loves his son with all his heart and that's the bottom line. I think he's a good father!

  • blackie copped his look from ronald of sparks....or...shields & yarnell ..?

  • It made me cry. But it was beautiful how his father was talking about it.

  • Kiedis loves his father. We all love our fathers. Maybe Anthony suffered of Blackie's education, and so what? We didn't live with them, we just don't know what they exactly think about that. Just respect, people.

    - Sorry for my english.

  • Oh yeah totally father of the year... What kind of moron even defends this douche that offers his 12 yr. old kid some acid?!

  • yall shut the fuck up, parents jobs are simple do what "they" think is best for their child

he did what he did fucked up as it may be, but everybody has their personal look at life

    just stop! fucking pricks

  • I love that he looks at his watch to tell when he id gonna have sex.

  • TROLLFACE DETECTED 3:09

  • "I had a game plan" ????? Introducing your kid to hard drugs and making him the responsible one to look after your sorry ass when he's the kid and you're the grownup is not "a game plan."

  • if father had not been ill tony has not been that it is: best musician, best person and best father! After all, he can not physically exist.thank for this, Blackie... love Anthony, my bonbon

  • Comment removed

  • I've got a feeling that if his dad was a little more thoughtful, His kid would have had a lot smoother of an ascent to his place in life. Worked out pretty well though, could be worse. ***

  • Dirtbag dad.

  • 6:30 anthony has a johnny depp look going on.

  • Comment removed

  • whose the kid at 0.02?? ... i know the next ones courtney love then anthony... and does anyone know if this kinda thing was recorded of courtneys parents like this one of blackie for anthony ... i would really love to see that if anyone knows that exists and where i can see it ... thanks x)

  • Anthony's break ups with all of his girlfriends, ended up with him going on binges.

So maybe it did affect him having sex at such a young age.

  • I cried.

  • Much respect to both of you for your struggles.I grew up listening to the red hot chilli peppers and had a friend tour with them and over the years the music has just gotten better. RESPECt

  • I thought My Lovely Man was about Hillel...

  • @xoxotntxoxo My Lovely Man is about Hillel. The lyrics Blackie is reading is from a song called "Savior" off of Californication.

  • @TheChippyRick wasnt that about flea o.O

  • @lyx23 No

  • @TheChippyRick wait, i'm thinking of jungle man.

    close enough

  • This is sad. He could have died.

  • A little bit of acid...hahaha

  • 3:57 Is it me or does anthony kinda look like kurt???

  • @tabrisbiebr20098 he looks more like iggy to me.

  • Give this man a #1 dad mug

  • My only wish is to meet Anthony Kiedis in real life and sit down and talk with him, not so much as an interview but more of an idol to admirer type of thing, he is such an inspirational man, over coming drugs and other hardships to become a famous singer but the chances of him and I having a heart to heart are slim to none......

  • My kids are going suck I see Blackie as the man!!!! fucking hooked his son up with a hottie, ehh maybe a lil young but hey :)

  • "people weren't embarrassed to drugs at that time" Hell I'm still not lol. I must run with a lot a wild people I guess to me it's "partyin" or "having a good time"

  • @MrGeltabs Thank you bro. Someone who knows how to live and not be a paranoid dumbfuck.

  • i'll like this forever

  • whats the name of the song right at the start?

  • @Muddy100 celebrity skin - hole

  • This guy was authentic, right or wrong, who's to say. He could have shown Anthony anoher way had he known one. We pass our limitations onto our children because we don't know otherwise, not in order to harm them in their future life. I'm sure Anthony, so aware of the issue will present drugs to his kid in a very different light from his father's.

  • you should see him with looooooooooong hair and using his song to smuggle drugs 9:47

  • im sorry but this interviewer is retarded

  • Anthony had it rough...

  • Blackie is not a good father. I'm reading the book 'Scar Tissue' and is like... wow!, Blackie let him smoke pot and went to clubs where they all took drugs. Just imagine if he had finished as Hillel. Fortunately, now he is a strong man with a beautiful son.

  • @emispearsyeah lol did you miss the whole part about how Blackie tried and tried to help Anthony with his Heroin addiction... You can say what you want about blackie but here is the other side.. Did Hillel's father get him started early partyin too???? I don't think so, u can also argue that it was Anthony's close relationship with his father that helped him get through the tough times, where as Hillel was really embarrassed and tried to hide his addiction from his family.

  • @MrGeltabs I know that Blackie is a good person. But before he wasn't a good father. If he helped Anthony about the heroin addiction, perfect Blackie. I didn't know it.

  • @emispearsyeah no doubt it's allgood... Blackie was pretty much devastated when Anthony started disappearing for weeks at a time... Basically I took it like Blackie wasn't a junkie and never wanted to get to that point, I believe Anthony prob didn't think he'd get to that point but ended up there no fault of anybodys but Anthonys.. Heroin is a sad sad drug many good people have fallen for, I what dope/pills do to people

  • @MrGeltabs You are my new hero. well said

  • what an awesome motherfucker. bad parenting is a matter of opinion: at the end of the day, all blackie did was let anthony do whatever the fuck he wanted. total freedom. who's to say anthony wouldnt have ended up a drug-abusing rockstar anyway? he'd already met the other dudes in the band and they certainly wouldve still been successful musicians and probably dragged him with them. hell most the drugs he did werent even done around blackie so he was exposed to them regardless. blackie's alright.

  • A damn wise/respectable man if I've ever seen one.

  • Judging is an opinion, therefore, your moral judgement is yours to have.. dont be pissed because my opinion is not that of judgement

  • I say SO WHAT, who are we to judge? I respect you Blackie.

  • we are human being with a brain and so we use our judgment to judge. prejudice is bad but to tell someone not to judge is really fakin stupid. shame on you. hopefully you will grow up to understand that.

  • this makes me cry!!!!! sure he was a bad parent, but he is definitely not a bad person.

  • @jyankeesrock let me re state that... i DONT think he is a bad parent or a bad person.

  • @jyankeesrock no one gives a fuck what you said bro, this is a youtube bro, not cnn

  • I had a completely different depiction of Blackie when in read Scar Tissue. But in respect I don't think Blackie is an extremely bad parent. I think he was really traumatized by his own childhood that he wanted Anthony's to be better. Ok so his parenting methods were fucked up, but I think he had Anthony's best intentions at heart.

  • CLEARLY introducing your 12 year old child to drugs is a bad idea...how can this even be discussed seriously? Anthony is a sex addict who dates very young and in the past UNDERAGE girls...anybody see a connection here?

  • I think it's good to give your kids too much freedom. My parents did that, and it really made me understand self control and moderation as a necessity rather than something you do simply because you don't want to get punished.

Blackie isn't a bad parent. He just fell into the spiral of trying to justify oneself to the "normal" masses, resulting in a life of denial and excuses rather than just doing weird shit cause that's how he is.

  • I'm surprised how much he is in denial. It's OK to admit you fucked up.

  • This video is living proof how drugs can fuck your brain up..

  • @carolinapdx well actually the guys 70 years old so i would say he is doing pretty good.

  • @carolinapdx everyone knows that drugs will do that, you're being redundant

  • @carolinapdx sorry dude but your going to die in you lifetime. why not go down having fun? im just kidding ive been through all this when i was using herion and it was a hell ride. Not all drugs are bad .we live in a drug ridden society no ? do you drink ? thats alot worse then weed.

  • Anthonys dad a bad dad? :( COME ON!! hes a real hero ! To be a good encouragement to his son, why cant more fathers be as open minded as Anthonys was?? IF OUR DADS WERE THIS COOL, WE WOULD BE ROCKING HARD IN THE BEST BANDS IN THE WORLD :) LIKE THE RED HOTS

  • @jetsonic69 You don't have to have a drug addict dad to be a rock star. Anthony is the EXCEPTION people! How many dads are like that and then their kids end up the addicts? And how many people who are "rocking hard in the best bands in the world" had completley normal, not drug addicted, yet supporting parents?Blackie seems like a nice guy, but that's not how to raise a child. Just because Anthony found his way into who he is now doesn't mean every kid in this same situation ends up a rock star.

  • :) AWWW FATHER AND SON : THE GOOD DAD :( NOT THE TOUGH TYPE

BUT THE FRIENDLY DAD , THE ONE WHO LET HIS SON DO WHATEVER HE WANTS

WITHOUT THE DRUGS BUT THE WOMEN PART IS OK , I WISH ALL DADS WERE THIS OPEN MINDED WITHOUT THE DRUGS PART

  • WOAHHH! Anthony Depp at 6:25!!!!! :O

  • hahahahah yeeea

  • hahahahah

     yeeea

  • He loved his kid bottom line no ones perfect

  • Anthony's dad: worst dad ever. Just because he turned into a rockstar, so what. How many kids with that kind of parent turn into nothing? You can't praise his dad for his son being an exception. His own FATHER made him a drug addict. Again, even if you're a rock star, drugs can kill you, and then it's all worth nothing. His dad sucks.

  • @racso452 dumbass..

  • @travis737 No.

  • @racso452 always blame others for your fucked up live, that´s how it works -.- lol

    dumbass, travis737 is right!

  • I think he's the coolest. Granted he took a really big chance exposing Anthony to drugs at such an early age but I guess it was part of the universe's master plan in turning Anthony in to the person he's become and the things he's accomplished

  • I think he's not a bad dad I mean when I read about him in the book scar tissue my image of him was that he was a drunken fool that beat his kid or something actually in all reality he just was following what every kid says their gonna do when they get in trouble and that is that when I grow up I'm gonna let my son do whatever he wants really he just was looking out for Anthony

  • I read about that Kimberly girl in "Scar Tissue", he was like 12 or 13.

  • I never knew Savior was about Blackie.

  • he wasn't that much older than him, only 8 years old. hes fucking 12 years old. this guy is a fucking moron

  • Search for RHCP behind the music on YouTube...it's awesome and very insightful. That as well as his book explains a lot

  • haha. worst father ever, but also the best father ever lol

  • BLACKIE DAMNIT!

  • hes a complete idiot. im glad anthony isnt like that

  • Worst. Father. Ever.

  • it would be stupid not to accept that blackie had a huge influence on the person anthony is today, and of course to think that maybe RHCP would never have existed had it not been for him. but that doesn't mean he wasnt a fucking psycho

  • i like this guy

  • @321Green1Fork123 Me too. It doesn't seem like a bad guy at all.

  • (sarcasm by the way, incase you didn't pick up on it)

  • you guys are right, it's his dad's fault Anthony has a great voice for music, is a talented poet, artist, inspiration.....his dad is so awful.....

  • I wish Blackie was MY dad!!! :D

  • jesus christ the resemblance is crazy

  • everybody is hating on blackie, but without him and without everything anthony has gone through, anthony may not have became the beautiful and incredibly talented artist he is today

  • Damn, Blackie is kinda fucked up. I'm really open minded too but come on, he was a little extreme with Anthony in more ways than one.

  • Blackie really is the reason Anthony has his H issues now..how can you NOT be screwed up with an upbringing that open? I mean I'm all for being cool to your kids but give them drugs and girls at 11-12?

  • blackie is fucking retarded

  • if you like the interview, read Scar Tissue, awesome book

  • @graves47 ikr i just got it 2 days ago

  • Best dad ever apart from my dad ofcourse!

  • whatever dosn't kill you... only makes your book longer. -Anthony Keidis <3 you crazy motherfucker you.

  • wow thisis exaclty how i envisioned him when i read scar tissue

  • Dont judge until you been in blackie's shoes. I mean sure, not the best parent. But unless you've been down his road i dont think you should be calling him names or saying he should be in jail!

  • What was the name of the song at 8:00

  • @jgres95 savior

  • @jgres95 Savior from Californication

  • @jgres95 Thanks. It's a great song.

  • this guy is seriously a sick and pathetic fuck. banging underage girls and having them have sex with your 12 year old son while letting him get into drugs is criminal. Im pretty open minded but this dude should be in jail.

  • @curtmastor read his book dude, youll gain alot of respect for blackie

  • @PIMPZproduction read it, he's still an idiot.

  • "didnt cause him harm?" was this dude under a rock when his kid was in high school doing cocaine and heroin at 17 and 18.

  • blackie wasnt the best father, but he was good for anthony :)

  • i think if blackie had have been a normal father, the rhcp never would have existed, blackie made anthony's personality...

  • if he didn't let him, he was gonna do drugs anyway

    i really like his father

not the best fathering but not terrible

honestly there are no perfect parents anywhere

  • I think Blackie is an overall good person, with a few really deep left-fielded damn-near crazy beliefs. Such as his "game plan".

I mean, hell yeah Anthony became what he is now, but damn look at all the lows he has been in through his life.

  • I love RHCP and Anthony Kiedis. I listen to the band almost every day. However, I would sacrifice that joy in my life to know a child didn't get addicted to drugs and exposed to sexual intercourse at the age of 12 by his own father. I know Anthony says he doesn't regret it; but I don't know if I believe him. This guy messed up his son because his father abused him. He was victimized by his father, too. Sad stuff. And what's wrong with selling insurance in the Mid West? I find that insulting.

  • @duke0219 Anthony or Blackie? Well, for Anthony, it's just a rockstar's life. They get tons of groupies just for being in a rock band.

Blackie's case, however, if you read Anthony's book, his father was an actor. In addition, Blackie hung around in clubs and bars while selling drugs to musicians. Women love the fact that he has connections. Also, this was during the 70s when women weren't as independent as they were today, so they just lived a more, carefree life until they're married.

  • @Zipperlepsy I meant Blackie. It's obvious how Anthony gets ladies.

  • Comment removed

  • everybody dosent understand this guy wasnt a bad father

to the standards of today bad but the standards back then pretty normal

  • @PsychoCrusher618 Neither of my sets of grandparents exposed my parents to illegal drugs or intercourse at the age of 12. That is not "normal" for that time period.

  • I've read that Anthony sometimes thinks his father opened him up to drugs at an early age to show him how cruel and real the world is, and how it can't always be sugar coated, I think i heard this from Anthony Kiedis's Biorhythm

  • God....How come this guy gets so many chicks and I'm 25 and well respected and can't get any? I would love to have a kid and raise them the right way. This guy had a kid and basically did WORSE than neglecting him. Whoever expects life to be fair will end up being quite disappointed....

  • @duke0219 if you reads anthony's book he says he doesnt regret anyhting and wouldnt trade his experiences for anything else in the world....but then again...why would you?

  • @adaz450 He could just have easily wound up like Hillel. Do you think he would regret it then?

  • @duke0219 Nope. No regrets, to regret something is almost like a self contradiction....Everything you've done makes up who you are, everything is a learning experience...no regrets...

  • @duke0219 Because he's hot and we're not, yo. Genetics. Birthright. Weeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!!!!!!

  • @duke0219 And you also said you're well respected? I don't want to judge, but if you're well respected, I'm assuming your friends are also mature and don't go to parties or clubs (or as much as they used to). Those type of people are more wild and not have a care for anything, so they don't mind who they end up sleeping with. Those people barely get any respect, assuming you have a well paying job and worry more about important things like paying for bills than mindless sex.

  • Was he that bad of a dad? i dont think so.Not in all ways maybe in some.......but i think he taught alot more life lessons that i wish my parents had provided me with.Just saying

  • @hetro27 So you WANT to have been sexually exploited and exposed to marijuana at the age of 12? You're crazy.

  • pretty intense thanks for the upload

  • Woot Hell yay on the Marijuana other drugs not so much.

  • "It's a shitty way of living your life, thinking you're a rockstar. I mean, those people are fucking empty, man"

    -John Frusciante

  • When is spider and son coming out?

  • i wish i had a father like him

and not the one i have, he is a total ass who left my mom when i was born u.u

  • @canibaldance Having no father is better than having a father that intentionally harms you.

  • @duke0219 Its not like his Pops WANTED to hurt him, in fact that is the EXACT opposite of what he wanted.

Anthony's father was intentionally abused, therefore he decided he would let Anthony do whatever he wanted thinking that is how you show your kid you love em. But that is also a huge mistake you can make as a parent.

  • @MusicalRelease Most parents with substance abuse problems don't want to hurt their kids. But they wind up loving the substance more than they love their child and the child becomes affected by it.

  • RHCP rock. Fact is his Father is responsible for a major part of that, there is no way Anthony would be able to write the stuff he has without those life experiences. Right or wrong at the time fact remains that his music has brought an escape for so many. Keep it up guys!!x

  • he was terrible, but in a way amazing because of the confidence he instilled in his son and the people skills. those are what make success

buuuut the drugs could've killed him

  • It's only touching because his son ended up a millionaire rock star who's probably paying his father's bills. Dammett might as well have said I'd rather my son be a homeless unemployable junkie than a Mid-Western insurance salesman.

  • Without this man we wouldnt have some of the greatest music in the world. God bless you Blackie Dammet!

  • If AK was exposed to all what his father allowed AND was abused by him, he more than likely would have ended up in a mental institution.

  • its a universal principle that every action has an equal and opposite reaction

  • What a SICK human being. This is part of whats wrong with the world

  • Sex at a young age, for getting hooked on smack. Yeah, that's a even trade. Ha ha!

  • he fucked tonys mind

  • i just read all of this in Anthony's book Scar Tissue haha! crazy stuff

  • if you pause the first shot of blackie he looks like a serial killer off criminal minds or something.........

  • @highonfire3653 I think he looks like that throughout the whole video.

  • gawd..imagine anthony growing up in the midwest working as an insurance salesman..how wrong that would be..and what a HUGE loss it would be to music.

  • @ystorm Now imagine the thousands who's dreams dusted on abuse with drugs and dysfunctional upbringing-they're loss and input in music... I feel Im part of that group-however Ill never know, but there's this loss, a black hole in my heart that I associate with my life as it is to what I dreamed it would always be. Deep Sadness is all I can call it.

  • @ystorm makes me think of the midwestern insurance salesmans out there that should have changed music

  • i could listen to Blackie and Anthony talk for hours... they sound so intelligent.

  • Learned a lot about Blackie in Scar Tissue...but eh,Anthony turned out awesome
