  • @PHNEAUXproductions

Very sweet of you ... thanks :))

  • Thank you James! Great lesson! If you ever get a wild hair to do it, can you give a lesson for Mazzy Star "Into Dust"

  • @Partychief67

    Beautiful !!

I'll have a listen and get back to you :)

  • DUDE THANKS ALOT

  • @StickmanJunkie

You are welcome bro ... thank you for listening :))

  • Hi isx there anyway that you can repost this tutorial from the start because those chords were from the chorus and I wanted to know what the chord progressions are for the start of the song to the end

  • @Skyvalley7

Hi ... the chords are the same all the way through.

    That's why it's a great song for beginners ...

The occasional D major happens only near the end of the Chorus as you know.

The Intro, the Verses and early part of the Chorus are all A E Bm Bm ...

(1 bar of A, 1 bar of E, 2 bars of Bm) ... repeated over and over.

Let me know if that is not clear,

    Cheers, James :)

  • Thankyou! I realllyyy like your voice :D

  • @Rock3rChixx

    Realllyyy sweet ... thanks :)

  • dude you are awesome

  • @antonofable1

    LOL ... thanks man :))

  • Thanks James, a very concise and clear tutorial. Good voice too dude! I've only just come across this song looking for Into Dust. Thanks to you I'll include this in my set of songs...that I play in my living room! Lol. :-)

  • @Mrlibertine

    Beautiful .. thank you :)

I'm hanging out for the 'living room' event bro !! :)

Seriously .. I'm really glad it was helpful my friend :)

Peace and love from the other side of Earth ... James

  • awesome way to show the chords. I've never seen it done that way. Great tutorial, can't wait to get back to my guitar!

  • @crtrptr11

Thank you mate, I really appreciate it!

Best of luck with your playing :)

  • Thanks Jamez, very good instructions for a beginner like me. I love this song. I like your video - thumbs up!

  • @61dodgelancer

Cheers my friend ... appreciate the feedback :)

  • @61dodgelancer

    Thanks mate ... you're welcome.

    Glad that it's helpful :)

  • I thought it was A - E - then Bm (the barre version)

  • @cryss1996

    That's right ... !

Play it any way that makes you happy :)

  • @jamezheart At first I was skeptical, but upon a full review I can see that your style is very cool. However, I just gotta go straight B minor. Other than that one tweak which I think just dosn't work for me personally, I really like your style. It takes the piece to a different level.

  • @mpeters220

No worries my friend .. the ear likes what the ear likes!

Being a muso I forget that sometimes what I hear is 'out there' to someone who isn't one ... but that's cool :)

  • is there a cetain tunning because mine sounds bad or maybe its just me

  • @lulugal31

    LOL ... Hi!

No, the guitar is tuned to standard concert pitch.

If you don't have a guitar tuner you can probably find a YouTube video where someone shows you how to tune to concert pitch and you can tune to the notes that they play :)

  • Nice suggestion, thanks!

  • @thepnmf

    Thanks, you're welcome :)

  • Great vid. Great tutorial. Great suggestions.

  • @hhyperdd

    Thanks man :)

  • good lesson, thanks!

  • @gabbs74

    Hi, you're welcome cheers :)

  • those are the chords for the whole song....?

  • @mrsfloatmyboat

Of course ... why is that weird?

  • @jamezheart

I'm new to the whole guitar thing so I was confused. haha.

  • @mrsfloatmyboat

Ok ... cool. Lot's have songs have only 4 chords, some have less :)

  • Thank you so much for this!

Love the song and your voice!

  • @SickRobots

    Hi ... thanks so much!

    Love your work too :)

    Cheers ... James

  • I can't exactly find where the plucking and strumming pattern is. Help? Thanks.

  • @borget95

    A

    D D-U-D-U, D D-U-D-U,

    E

    D D-U-D-U, D D-U-D-U etc.

    Emphasizing the first down stroke

  • I can't exactly find where the plucking and strumming pattern is. Help? Thanks.

  • @igi1390

Hey mate ... there's a post down below with the answer to your question ... cheers :)

  • Hello, I was wondering if you could make a tutorial for Mazzy Star's " I've been let down." I really want to try and play it on guitar. And I have no experience so video's such as yours help and it seems that the mazzy star songs have been generally easy for me to play thus far and I would love to be able to play and sing that one on my own.

    Thanks. :)

  • @skittlecookie

Hi ... I'm sorry I don't know the song and I don't have time to do any more tutorials at the moment but I will listen to the song and send you the chords. Will that be helpful?

  • Para tres acordes que eran, los pones mal.

  • wow, I really appreciate this. There aren't any guitar pro files out there so you're a lifesaver james. At first I thought "oh god he's singing," then I was like, hey not bad!

  • Ha ha ... "oh god he's singing" LOL.

It's actually what I do most as a performer ... lol

Anywho ... thanks for appreciating it ... you are welcome :)

  • cool, thanks. Easy lesson and good practice for a difficult chord.

  • Thanks, you are welcome :)

  • thanks man!

  • No worries bro .. you're welcome :)

  • May I ask what guitar you are using and its tuning?

    Thanks,

    The Meltdownman

  • hello, nice video :).

    I actually like your voice.

one thing i think could be played differently.

In the beginning it says a major, but then you use a sus 2.

i saw tabs that have the a major and i think this sounds better.

There is a mazzy star vid on utube with only one acoustic guitar and i think the guy plays a major.

The vid is actually in the related videos list on this page :).

  • Hi, you are right.

The chords at the beginning are correct.

I often play things different ways because I like the way it sounds.

    Cheers ... James

  • Fair enuff ;).

Although it's just 4 chords I got some bigtime probs with switching from the e to the barred bm.

Feels like 5 minutes to switch ;).

In general switch from or to a barre chord is pretty heavy stuff for me.

Still a newb I am, hehe.

  • Ha ha ...

Cool, don't worry man that is normal!

I actually started by playing lead guitar because I found the chords way too hard in the beginning and I got bored of trying.

So I started copying lead guitar solos (very badly at first).

It all worked out in the end though.

Yes ... switching between barred chords and open chords is very difficult at the start.

Keep at it man ... I've been playing for a long time now and not a day goes by that I'm not proud of myself for sticking it out.

  • why wont you tell us how to strum!! everything is pointless if there is no strum tuturol

  • The tutorial was done especially for one of my YouTube friends in Spain who wanted the chords. It was never meant to be a strumming tutorial. However, I'm planning to do one in the future when I can find the time.

  • Wonderful vid, thanks for the help. However am SUPER NEW to playing and have no idea what the right hand does. (??)

  • The right hand is really the hardest part ... but they won't tell you that in any book.

I'm going to do a strumming tutorial one day.

    Thanks for the cool comment.

  • Good lessons but I could seriously do without the signing.

  • What does that mean ??

  • you're ignorant

  • I guess you meant "singing" ... I'm sure some beginners would want to know how the voice sits with the chords. I may be wrong but the lesson didn't cost you anything and you don't have to listen.

  • seriously.

  • Glad you're alive Shannon ... hehe ... some of us are just toooo spoilt I guess :)

Cheers for the support ... (not that I really gave a crap about his comment) ... James

  • haha. yeah i can't stand these people who are such hardasses on the internet just because they can get away with it because it isn't real life. laaame. haha :) this is a good video, i wish i could have seen the strumming too, though. my only complaint :s

  • hmm, nevermind. i read a comment you left above and it's helpful :p i think i was doing it fine anyway... just wasn't sure! thanks for teaching me the song :]

  • are these the actual chords used in the song, or are these simplified versions of the chords to make it easier for begginers?

  • Hi, please read the response to the second comment above made by "NoirHammer".

    Cheers ... James

  • Hi thanks ...

The "Up and Down" is your job ... do I have to do everything !! LOL.

Seriously, I can't help you with this. If you can't play rhythms on the guitar to the point that you are feeling those rhythms in your heart, then you need to work on that.

I can play the "ups" and "downs" in any order. That will only confuse you ... the important thing is that you are feeling it ... take it slow, learn all the parts, and then speed it up as you get better at playing it.

  • its easy to hear the ups and down out.

    D DUDUD DUDU

and B minor just 2 times

  • your voice+guitar sounds wonderfull *_*

it would be great if you could make a full guitar version of this song

I'm in search of an instrumental version but don't found it till now T_T

  • Hi ... thank you ... sorry I don't do intrumentals :(

  • no problem

    I have found one =)

  • Great! Hey ... why don't you play it yourself :-)

  • I cant play instruments...I just like it to sing karaoke ô////ô

  • Hehe .. cute :-))

  • hi, nice video, but you forgot, how to hit the sides(melodie, takt)

  • Sorry man I don't understand :(

  • You know, I think if your playing an acoustic guitar by yourself this version is much better. Good on ya.

  • Thanks much! I've been playing in bands forever (electric guitar) but I've only been playing acoustic for about 3 years. I was surprised how strange it was at first (thinking ... it's just another guitar isn't it?) but even more surprised to find how much the acoustic seems to totally surround you. Its very percussive and covers lots of frequencies in the audio spectrum.

Which leads me to ... everything changes when it's just you and the guitar. Subtle changes to tunes can make nice colours.

  • I can't say I agree with your chord structures. If you really listen to the chords played in the song, you'll see you're off.

Admittedly, I haven't picked up an axe in ten years but my ears are still sharp and I'm telling you one or two of your chords are off.

    However, your effort was appreciated.

  • Hi, you are absolutely correct! The actual chords are mentioned early in the tutorial ie. A, E, Bm and the Resolution chord is D.

This is my own version which leaves an E note ringing through the chord sequence. The root chords are the same though. This idea is pleasing to my ear but might not be to others.

The tutorial is more about asking folks to think outside the box. It also subtley teaches some skillful ideas to those that want to learn.

Thanks 4 your much appreciated comments :)

  • This one especially for my good friend Antonio in Sevilla Spain :)
