Tempo seems fast when compared to how this work has been interpreted in the mid 20th century. However, considering the text - it is much more appropriate at this speed. This is a jubilant statement of excitement rather than the ponderous and overly dark interpretations of the last 60 years. A brighter tempo is also a more accurate represenation of the baroque period. We just need to adjust our ear's expectations.
