I love how after Victor's solo when Bela starts soloing you just think, nahh Victor's the shit, and then he just totally blows you away. Love this band!!
if u lisen all bela fleck music, u can feel how much did bela learns from victor, and how much victor learns from bela, like poul mcrney with john lennon
let me get something straight. i hate most jazz music, its just not my style. But this, this is AMAZING! all the solos are perfect and kick so much ass! and Future Man's drum guitar thing is crazy, i want one.
This is music that can make me relax and freak out at the same fucking time!!! i feel so inspired and awesome when i sit and listen to this beautiful MASTERPIECE!!! i wont point anyone out of them because i love them all!!! at the seventh day god made THIS!!! Brilliant!!
Great! But I must say, if someone would've let me just listen to this song without images I would've found it hard to believe that this guy is playing the banjo. Sounds exactly like a guitar...
I can't believe all these years I thought Bela and the Flecktones were some kinda "Paddle faster, I think I hear banjo music" new-grass bluegrass unit. Holy ...
i hate how when bela comes up to play the banjo solo i get lost in victors bassline but when i try to listen carefully to victors bassline i get attracted back to belas solo! either way theyre both awesome!!!
@Bassbeagle I think he using an artificial harmonic. If you lightly touch the string with your index finger then pluck with the ring finger you should get the sound. There are loads of odd places to get them so have a play around =)
Natural Harmonics are produced by plucking the unfretted string while lightly touching it at the 12th 7th or 5th fret, (which divide the string length into 2, 3 and 4 respectively.) Higher divisions are pretty quiet and more difficult.
With the oddly named "Artificial" Harmonics, the string is fretted, otherwise the technique is much the same, usually touching the string 12 frets above the fretting point, while plucking.
These guys must feel so good after pulling off a performance like this. I mean honestly, if I had even half the skill to play like they do, I would just be the happiest guy in the world. They got it made, that's for sure.
Can anyone tell me which record this is on (either studio or if the gods are smiling this live cut). And at risk of being a pain, which are the best albums to start out with from these guys. Thanks.
HI wmdip, it's on left of cool but I don't think that there is a particular album that you can start with but personally I prefer the live one. Live at the quick and live art are pure gold.
Most people don't know what we know. It's a shame I know, but that's the way the world is. Why listen to this when you can listen to sexually and verbally explicit songs like the one's lil wayne sings? It stones me.
@safetymonkey42 It's not wise to say something like that, you can say it's awful, but not that it doesn't qualify as music! Music is universal. everybody feels something different from everyone with sounds. I'm not saying i'm a Lil Wayne fan or anything, even though he's a legit producer, that lolipop thing contains the natural structures of a song, some people can get to that higher level with music like that, just for THESE sounds! Fleck is alright, but some people may think this is stale
@BennyGaberMusic No one listens to lollipop for the music, no one says "oh did your hear that bass line in lollipop", anyway who are lil'wayne's musicians?
I agree but 17,000 people who actually realise that this is music ..while "Lollipop " is disposable, forgettable, dross for people who " Eat $h1te..'cos 10,000,0000 flies can't be wrong"
it's an artificial harmonic produced with his index finger as a "node" and then plucking behind- that's steve bailey's influence on him shining through :P
Jeff is the best thing to happen to this group. I'd really like to se him come back

@muppet089 what are real harmonics?
tiger130 1 year ago

Pinching is another harmonic technique.
All are real.
