Let's correct a fallacy here. The US did NOT invade Vietnam. We were asked there to assist in the resistance to communism and aggression by the government of the Republic of Viet Nam. The Americans did NOT lose the war. The communists overwhelmed the southern troops in 1975. The Americans left in 1973.

The communist authority in Vietnam always asks America for compensation for agent orange's victims but never mentions estates and properties illegally confiscated after 1975 when the authority forced millions of south Vietnamese labeled as counter-revolutionaries and capitalists go to reeducation camps and new economic zones, or even escape Vietnam by boats, especially when the authority admits it as a big mistake and calls for reconcialition with Vietnamese expatriates.

North Vietnam wiped out 15,000 villages and hamlets in the South for not supporting communism. That is not supported in the rules of war those are bigger crimes than anything America did. I bet they didn't teach you in school that the communist takeover of Hue during Tet, that the NVA killed almost 6,000 civilians many were buried alive. Communist convinced people by killing them.

I've met a french guy who is exporting rice to the philippines for the last 4 years, & he's laughing because he said Philippines should have its own capacity to produce rice with the vast areas of land it has. It is true the communist govt is facing turmoil, and pollution controls are nonexistance. However, keep in mind not everyone is suffering in Vietnam, and not every teen is rebelling. My cousin is a nurse who married a doctor and just had a child in the southern city called Soc Trang. Yeah you could say they are higher wealth family. But according to them, violence and crime are low and things seem to be going well in the area.
