In a few years, I'd rather get a 2008 used Element EX with 4WD, and change the audio system with a Nav-Audio system with Bluetooth! It's better for me since I don't have insurance right now, but when I, do, I'd rather start with a used car for lower insurance cost. I can also use Synthetic oil, synthetic transmission fluid, Synthetic Differential Fluid, and Synthetic Power Steering Fluid to keep it lasting.
Wow have fun with that 1800 pound towing capacity....I guess now we know a Honda Element cannot tow a parked van in the snow. And wtf someone was in the van and they were pushing the gas down. Watch 0:45 the front wheels spin out on the van.
@llelica9 I got my E in 2005, now at about 85,000 still going strong, no worries of replacing timing belt, this engine has a chain, and it lasts 450,000 miles :-)
Just to give you a heads up. You should never tug the chain like that with your car. It can seriously tare the frame right out of your car. Usually people slowly move forward until all the slack is gone before giving power.
Really? And YOU are the authority on this, are you? Tare the frame right out of your car, huh? Go comment on teletubbies and my little ponies, it's all you should be talking about.
-> Man, that Honda Life was buried in snow! And its cousin the Element did its job pretty good seeing the Real Time AWD do its job, the tires although was so-so. :)

Hm, looks like the E could use a limited slip differential to make the AWD even better.

It becomes a rear wheel drive car once you start spinning the front wheels.

@jabba12000
this video had nothing to do with towing capacity, it was traction on ice.
My friend has a 4.0L jeep and it won't tow shit on ice either

@sausagenmuff
well reguardless what this video was made, there was a man in the van driving it so it kind of ruines the test.

"Real time awd" mean : real good time to unditch somebody !

First the front wheel spins, then the rear wheels kick in, and the rear wheels end up spinning but the front don't.
Clearly, this is not a very good 4 wheel drive.
Yes yes, all the people pressing the thumbs down on me love their little Honda Elements, but the fact remains, the 4wd isn't exactly all that great.
a1mint 2 years ago
maybe the front passenger side was spinning?
YtothemuddafukinT 1 year ago
If has no traction control, at least, the 2005 model didn't. Wheel's were spinning all over the place.
Although not useless, the 4wd mechanism isn't exactly very sophisticated here.

That sucks you can't buy a decent 4x4 in the 20K range anymore.

The Mitsubishi Outlander V6 seems pretty cool. 7 passengers, traction control...

isnt better to put a block or something behind the rear wheels to give more friction to push forward

ChiGzP 3 years ago
yea... cause the frame will just rip off like nothing. Bend it MAYBE... but rip it out ?... how old are you ?
Virus214 2 years ago
It became study.but it is a snow, the grip power is low.Damage is also low.
expediment 2 years ago
There is no frame on an element it's a unibody construction. I agree it's hard on the car though to tug a chain hard.
