  • i went to a dave concert but didnt hear this

  • @KOOLGUUY4536 I've seen them 2 dozen times and have never heard them do this song...

  • guy at 0:17 is so frat.

  • The point of a cover is to do your own rendition, not to make an exact replica. This is a great cover, plain and simple.

  • I think it should be a rule that if you are going to do a cover, then you ought to be able to hit the notes and the passion done in the original if you are copying it verbatim. "See Big Head Todd and the Monsters cover of Eric Clapton's "Forever Man" as an example."

  • this is a great cover...great musicians on stage...dunno what all the haters r talkin about

  • Not quite as powerful as Peter Gabriel's version, but i don't think any musician other than Peter himself could make that happen, so nice work Dave Matthews.

  • thanks to pete for writing this and giving guys like dave to give awesome interpretations

  • i think it should be a rule that if you are going to be critical then you have to show a video of you doing it better.

  • not that i thought it was gonna be bad but it was much better than i thought it was gonna be

  • dave matthews is so weird

  • I love him, but it' not that great. :/

  • stop complaining about how this doesn't sound like peter Gabriel... of corse it doesn't it's an effing cover just enjoy the tune and respect the music, if you don't like it, there's thousands of other videos on youtube that would love you to watch them.

  • Trey A. or the other guitar player is totally lost. One of them keeps missing the minor 6 chord.

  • @spbilleaudeaux give me a fawking break! Let's see your video of you doing it correctly and perfect and with a sold out crowd paying to watch you.

  • I love how some dude yells "OH MY GOD" right after the music starts up.

  • Who let him do this? And why did I only find out now?

Nice try, bud, but it's physically impossible to out-sing Peter G.

    Not bad, though.

  • excellent.

  • Sorry guys, but leave solsbury hill to Peter. This was fucking awful

  • @ferrarifan25 this was way better. i think i had diarrheah after i listened to peter gabriels distorted bull shit

  • @xkcbub286 Dave fucked it up with his stupid ass singing, always yodeling his lyrics so annoying..

  • @ferrarifan25 why did you listen?

  • @ferrarifan25 Hes so bad

  • Good god this is fine.... love this damn song anyway but Dave just makes it even better, good lord.....

  • oh Dave, why do you do this to me?

  • Can Dave be ay more amazing love him

  • Dave is amazing and I love everything he's coined , but I also love Peter Gabriel and I'm afraid there is no comparison in this case

  • Shit's SICK

  • I hate Trey Anastasio. His playing was awful in this video. He murdered a genius song.

  • @slavetothestix2 you should hate yourself as well

  • The original is one of the best songs ever, this not so much. It takes a special kind of talent to make such a great song so boring.

  • if only Dave started riding around the stage on a bike. that would complete this...

  • I'm glad this version exists :0) thank you very much

  • rip leroi

  • Sledgehammer is awesome

  • he does sledgehammer to by peter gabriel, sounds EXACTLY like him, its awesome

  • Jeez, GREAT song! This is really incredible. The more I hear it the more I like it. I'm not too fond of Trey's solo at the end, maybe it'll grow on me though. I LOVE the very end of it though, the "GET BACK HOME" is awesome! Thanks for the share!

  • WOW.

this is probably my favorite song of all time, and i do very much appreciate this cover, especially when it ends in a reynolds/anastacio frenzy.

  • nice

  • I caught most of this tour and this wasnt the best show. But they're rockin it for a couple of heroine addicts huh? I agree about PG's range. but the improv syncopation at the end is choice. GO TIMMY

  • think they will do something like this again?

  • who's a couple of heroin addicts? besides trey

  • uh,,, tim? me thinks he's been on just about everything you could be on at one time in his life. how else could he play like how he does? the man probably thinks in weird guitar sounds. why do u think he never talks?

  • he has a soft voice, watch the radio city dvd, he talks, pretty intelligantly, but at the same time, he's def. done some things to his brain hah, i just dont think heroin is one of them.

and he plays the guitar that well because he practices, just a thought.

  • pretty good, but shows how amazing PG's voice + range is.

  • This was amazing in Syracuse last night!!!! My fav of the night!

  • i thought it was so much better last night than this version i really enjoyed it favorite live song i've heard from him

  • While I enjoyed seeing it at Cuse I think this version is a lot better. It has a more complete sound to it with more drumming, the keys are a nice touch as well, and Dave's voice sounds better on this as well.

  • just busted this out tonight full band for first time.

    niiiiiiiiiice!!!

  • hell ya syracuse!! it was amazing :D not to mention stairway to heaven

  • I guess there soundchecking this at Alpine right now, it'd be great to hear this full band!

  • Hell yeah they do!

  • amazing. favorite dave cover

  • these tours were my favorite, i wish he would still do this.

  • Is this from Bonnaroo last year?

  • great cover dave should play this a little more

  • Why THE HELL dont they tour again...ridiculous cover

  • Emmylou opened for D+F that tour. Then she sang Oh Sister (dylan cover i believe) and maybe another song or two.

  • awesome

  • the friends are: * Trey Anastasio — lead guitar, vocals * Tim Reynolds — lead guitar * Tony Hall — bass guitar * Brady Blade — drums, backing vocals * Ray Paczkowski — keyboard * Emmy Lou Harris - backup vocals

(Tony Hall and Brady Blade are Emmy Lou Harris' rhythm section too)

  • Emmy Lou wasn't really part of the Friends band. She just guested a few times.

  • I see Trey...and...

  • Who comprises the "& Friends" part of the act?

  • one more dave & friends tour, plz...

  • Dave will always be Dave, imaginative, unpredictable, and most of all, significant. Great song, great cover. Love Trey and Tim at the end, feeding off of each other.

  • i love this song and Dave perfects it in my veiw

  • i love this cover

  • Drums are very distracting.

  • What's sad about this is that probably half the people in that crowd thinks he wrote that song...

  • if you really think that, then your even more dumb then you think the people in the crowd are..

  • It is definitely spelled Solsbury Hill - I grew up there at the bottom of said hill in Bath, a few doors down from a certain Mr Gabriel.

I think this is my least favourite DM cover version ever.

  • I like Dave Matthews and I agree, I don't think he did a very good job on this. I think maybe he's trying to mimic Peter Gabriel's style of singing and it sounds goofy?

  • Peter Gabriel does a find job but Dave's voice is unique. I like how Dave fills in between the verses with Yeahhhh. I appreciate both. Let's not compare but enjoy both.

  • I thought he did a very good job on it.

  • Totally agree.

  • Imitation is the purest form of flattery!

  • idiot

  • Wrong--It is Solsbury

  • @dunskie Thank God the grammar police are always out and active, patroling the You Tube channels!

  • BestIntentions thanks for the new video "I'll Back You Up". I got it and I love it. His voice is incredibly smooth here. I can feel the emotion in his performance. I wish more of us aspired to be like him--not afraid to feel our essence. Thanks again Margie, you continue to ROCK!

  • This is the way I like Dave: real, earthy, organic as 'cow shit' (it's a good thing). Thanks Dave you're my #1 favorite musician. You're as sexy as all 'get out'. Love you much.

And 'BestIntentions' thanks for a qualtiy video - you also rock.

  • Filmtress, Thanks for the nice comment. I have tons of Dave videos--lots and lots! But most of them have been posted on YouTube by others already, and the ones that haven't been, can't be because of copyright infringements. So I looked through my stuff and came up with a Dave & Tim one that I don't think has been posted yet--"I'll Back You Up". Click on my user name to get to it. I hope you like it. Don't hesitate to ask me if you have requests. ~Margie

  • hey, thanks send me a few things if u wouldnt mind, thanks god bless

  • prov1x1313: You asked me to send you some Dave Matthews stuff. What did you have in mind? Let me know what you like, want. Anything special you're looking for?

  • nah, anything really watever u got u think is pretty sweet would be awesome, i love when dave just rattles of some ridiculous scats on live performances but anything would be awesome thanks again

  • Amazing cover!!!!

  • To MercysHollow: I agree! I could play this video over and over. In fact...I DO! :-)

I don't know who taped it, but my thanks goes out to him!

  • I love dave and this song got me through being in iraq

  • I was at The Show at Allstate Arena in Chicago, Best concert EVER!!!

  • I saw him preform this at the Fleet Center, Boston, right around this same time. I don't remember the exact day though... anyway, beautiful, it was so damn good.

  • how do i get this song?

  • Great version of a great song

  • sick

  • I remember this concert well... was sitting in nosebleed section. Then a guy came around to us before the show (from the Warehouse club staff) and asked us if we wanted to exchange the tickets we had purchased for a couple in the stack he had. Ended up on the floor, center, 10 rows Back!!!. Trey brought a grundgy sound to the group. It fit. That concert Rocked... especially in the Bryce Jordan Center...

  • yes!!! a great cover song, dave is the king!!

  • peter gabriel is still the man, but this version is awesome!

  • This inspired my cover band to do this song

  • my fave song and dave does a wonderful cover of it!!

  • Is it me or does Trey sound really dirty?

  • Trey does sound dirty on here....the whole tour from the shows i saw he looked really messed up,screwing up lyrics, always kicking up his amp, drowning out dave and tim....i was really dissapointed with him.
