I think it should be a rule that if you are going to do a cover, then you ought to be able to hit the notes and the passion done in the original if you are copying it verbatim. "See Big Head Todd and the Monsters cover of Eric Clapton's "Forever Man" as an example."
Not quite as powerful as Peter Gabriel's version, but i don't think any musician other than Peter himself could make that happen, so nice work Dave Matthews.
stop complaining about how this doesn't sound like peter Gabriel... of corse it doesn't it's an effing cover just enjoy the tune and respect the music, if you don't like it, there's thousands of other videos on youtube that would love you to watch them.
Jeez, GREAT song! This is really incredible. The more I hear it the more I like it. I'm not too fond of Trey's solo at the end, maybe it'll grow on me though. I LOVE the very end of it though, the "GET BACK HOME" is awesome! Thanks for the share!
I caught most of this tour and this wasnt the best show. But they're rockin it for a couple of heroine addicts huh? I agree about PG's range. but the improv syncopation at the end is choice. GO TIMMY
uh,,, tim? me thinks he's been on just about everything you could be on at one time in his life. how else could he play like how he does? the man probably thinks in weird guitar sounds. why do u think he never talks?
he has a soft voice, watch the radio city dvd, he talks, pretty intelligantly, but at the same time, he's def. done some things to his brain hah, i just dont think heroin is one of them.
and he plays the guitar that well because he practices, just a thought.
While I enjoyed seeing it at Cuse I think this version is a lot better. It has a more complete sound to it with more drumming, the keys are a nice touch as well, and Dave's voice sounds better on this as well.
Dave will always be Dave, imaginative, unpredictable, and most of all, significant. Great song, great cover. Love Trey and Tim at the end, feeding off of each other.
I like Dave Matthews and I agree, I don't think he did a very good job on this. I think maybe he's trying to mimic Peter Gabriel's style of singing and it sounds goofy?
Peter Gabriel does a find job but Dave's voice is unique. I like how Dave fills in between the verses with Yeahhhh. I appreciate both. Let's not compare but enjoy both.
BestIntentions thanks for the new video "I'll Back You Up". I got it and I love it. His voice is incredibly smooth here. I can feel the emotion in his performance. I wish more of us aspired to be like him--not afraid to feel our essence. Thanks again Margie, you continue to ROCK!
This is the way I like Dave: real, earthy, organic as 'cow shit' (it's a good thing). Thanks Dave you're my #1 favorite musician. You're as sexy as all 'get out'. Love you much.
And 'BestIntentions' thanks for a qualtiy video - you also rock.
Filmtress, Thanks for the nice comment. I have tons of Dave videos--lots and lots! But most of them have been posted on YouTube by others already, and the ones that haven't been, can't be because of copyright infringements. So I looked through my stuff and came up with a Dave & Tim one that I don't think has been posted yet--"I'll Back You Up". Click on my user name to get to it. I hope you like it. Don't hesitate to ask me if you have requests. ~Margie
prov1x1313: You asked me to send you some Dave Matthews stuff. What did you have in mind? Let me know what you like, want. Anything special you're looking for?
nah, anything really watever u got u think is pretty sweet would be awesome, i love when dave just rattles of some ridiculous scats on live performances but anything would be awesome thanks again
I saw him preform this at the Fleet Center, Boston, right around this same time. I don't remember the exact day though... anyway, beautiful, it was so damn good.
I remember this concert well... was sitting in nosebleed section. Then a guy came around to us before the show (from the Warehouse club staff) and asked us if we wanted to exchange the tickets we had purchased for a couple in the stack he had. Ended up on the floor, center, 10 rows Back!!!. Trey brought a grundgy sound to the group. It fit. That concert Rocked... especially in the Bryce Jordan Center...
Trey does sound dirty on here....the whole tour from the shows i saw he looked really messed up,screwing up lyrics, always kicking up his amp, drowning out dave and tim....i was really dissapointed with him.
i went to a dave concert but didnt hear this

The point of a cover is to do your own rendition, not to make an exact replica. This is a great cover, plain and simple.

Trey A. or the other guitar player is totally lost. One of them keeps missing the minor 6 chord.
