@CommonRaven Rossi was only 5 years old. Although he was of a wonderful pedigree (both of his parents were top Canadian Champion show dogs) - he died of DCM (Dilated Cardio Myopathy). Which is the #1 killer for Dobermans. His loss was very hard on us and we can't ever replace him. Love your dog and cherish them. Don't neglect them! Enjoy your time with them.
Hey electra4382, no they are not herding dogs. They're primarily a guard dog that is VERY loyal. That in itself is what makes them such great guard dogs.
@electra4382 Dobies are in the Working Class. They are very loyal but are not PRIMARILY guard dogs. They are definitely used for that but have become more noted as family pets. If trained properly and raised around kids, they are fabulous family companions.
@rad3938 Louis Doberman originally bred the dogs as his guard dog and companion while he was out collecting taxes. Not exactly a well respected profession back then. But you're right, they are in the working class and being so loyal to their family is a trait that makes them such excellent guard dogs. Their loyalty is second to none. Cheers.
dobermans are protective of their family specially the kids. that's why they make great pets.
