@9mmed oh, you can read Japanese? Don't mind about criticism comment of Japanese. many of Japanese can't read English. so they couldn't read your comment.
Hi, Ed. I'm so glad what you liked Japan. I'm a Japanese. But I've been out of the country about 25 years. I miss the food, natural and behavior. I visited Japan a couple years ago. And I stayed same hotel where you got. Tiny, ha.
I'm from Otaru Hokkaido Japan. Please go visiting when you have a chance.
Where are you from States? I was in Santa Barbara CA 21years.
this looks fun but...i feel sad and upset about the behavour at the train ..did they notice a girl first came and lined to take train but this guys ignored her stepped before her get inside and acts like kids.... sorry guys but next time if you have chance to visit japan again, make sure to behave well ^ ^ peace from japan
@Mikeybetts Based on my experiences and thse of my friends, it seems to depend on where you live. I was just outside of Tokyo, so I didn't get that so much. There's enough foreigners there to dilute the shock of non-Japanese in their space.
However, my friend in Takamatsu, which is on the southern island of Shikoku, found that she was often stared at, or that she got more attention than usual in public simply because she was a white chick.
@9mmed As I was saying, the Japanese are some of the friendliest people on Earth, and like so many other countries, if you go there and are respectful of their customs and try to use the language as best you can, you'll find they'll be more receptive to you because you're not some freaky tourist, but someone they can respect because of your interest in Japan.
@davitto1990 Sorry I never replied... I came here to teach English, but it's more of a working vacation. I've always wanted to live here, not just visit. Have fun at Todai!

@simplemindize Don't worry - we learned about train behavior very quickly. Soon after WE were the ones giving disapproving looks to other Gaijin. :)

The upside is that there isn't much animosity.
