  • do they show his defeat in Parthia in this show?

  • Oh... well that explains it... "pop culture"... Council estate white vermin who try to talk like negroes and consider themselves rebels because they spend half their weekly social security on weed... As I don't spend much time standing on street corners, I'm not too familiar with the grunts and groans these creatures use.

  • I'm trying to find the scene where Marc Antony is told by Pullo that Vorenus is not well (he is wasting away after his wife killed herself) and Antony shows up at his place and confronts him, and snaps him out of it.. one of my favorite scenes.. when he is all like, "Dys is not your master, Centurion.... I am your master... by sacred oath under the standards of the 13th..." and you can see Vorenus just snap out of it and return to being his badass self... wish someone would post that scene up.

  • Cry Havok and let slip the dogs of war.

  • What's with this stupid american expression "owned" in the title?.... I prefere the English expression "pissed on"

  • @5thcenturyad im english and no one uses that term. LOL

  • @Blueguy85 Im English and Ive never heared another English person used "owned" but I have heard them use "piss on" and "shit on".

  • @5thcenturyad im sorry, but everyone uses owned.

  • @Blueguy85 Maybe because your from a different generation - 1985?... Im quite a bit older.... Also maybe a regional difference?

  • @5thcenturyad no i wasnt born in 1985. but owned has been used in many regions with many people because its pretty much been engraved in pop culture

  • This series was so superbly acted. And brilliantly written. The Romans were endlessly fascinating. 2000 years down the road they seem more contemporary to me than the Victorians.

  • Antonty really did open Quintus's neck! Just as warned. What a Politician he would make today! Or Caesar for that matter. Antony went on to defeat Brutis in battle, but he was in turn defeated by Julius Caesar's heir Augustus Caesar, or rather by Caesar's will. Antony kept personal relations with Cleopatria, Queen of Eqypt, and battle ensued when Antony could have had all. Just as every tine from 300BC to about 600AD the Romans always prevailed. Antony's co-alliance with an Eqyptian Queen...

  • Ceasar (Octavian, Mark Anthony and the crew) had the people (their own business in politics), Brutus and Pompei had non-vet military and businesses?

  • Tony Soprano and Marc Antony the two baddest motherfuckers ever to grace a TV screen. I fucking loved this show.

  • Comment removed

  • 8:54 you fuck with me now its a must that i fuck with you.

  • Quintis got owned.

  • A huge mistake not killing Antony at this point.

  • The United States could use someone as ruthless and cunning as Augustus. If we're going to have an empire can we at least have an Emperor?

  • @uscdave1124 Finally an American who speaks sence...Enough with all these neocon bullshit concernIng Democracy and Ethics...There is no Ethics in Politics only power...But then there comes the problem of loses..I mean Americans are too sensitive about their soldiers and they want them to be safe..Well it's a freaking war people kill each other in wars it's natural to have casualties....Anyway i guess States with satysfied people is dificult to become Empires...

  • @Jeffanos people like you are disgusting. you probably find this mark antony character amazing. humanity is better than having empires and wars. arent there large countries in the world today that have large and wealthy populations and still they hate all this madness (e.g turkey)?

The Roman model of thinking that has become the epitome of thought for thousands of years is the curse of humanity and that sir is the basic truth

  • @rgrft Turkey???? U r kidding right?? Turks are at war with the Kurds and they costantly try to expand their country's influence in Aegean and the middle east..They adopted the Neo-Ottomanism as their dominant ideology in their external afairs and they costantly threat the stabillity in Turkish-Israeli relations...Everybody seeks power its in human nature to dominate the weak and if u don't bealive it u r at least naive...And the epitome of western civilization is the ancient Greek thought

  • @Jeffanos i suppose you are right that Turkey has started to follow the Roman/Greek model since the past few decades. However that land was once part of the amazing Ottoman Empire where Jews, Christians and Muslims lived together in harmony. Atleast during the time of Suleiman the magnificent and his father wars were only fought against the mad crusaders. No prominent historian has ever said that the empire was unjust. Its not human nature to dominate rather its the need to find stability.

  • @Jeffanos If America could would return to the ideals of their founding fathers, it could become the best nation on the face of this planet and i feel it is possible for them because the people want substantial change, the people do want to demonstrate true justice and democracy to the world. Just look at the support Ron Paul is getting in his presidential bid. I truly believe the idea of humanity is separated from race, ethnicity or nationality.

  • @rgrft Well Americans can only achieve more humanistic policies if they chose to follow isolation...If USA accepts the title of the dominant superpower then there is only one path and that is war...If Americans want to demonstrate tru democracy to the peoples of Middle East and Asia means that they want those countries to follow their form of governance and their way of life..This is a form of dominance they dominate those people with their culture and policies..This is what i previously said..

  • @rgrft The curse of humnaity has been middle age brought by germanic tribes that destroy all human knowledge adquired. Rome was primitive for nowadays standards, of course, but in that age it was the real path to civilization. The "pax romana" in Augusto era, brought 15o years of peace and stabilty, develope of cultures and equal rights to all citizens of the empires. That was the way. Then barbarians came and lead to the anglosaxon world of nowadays, a world of war without dignity and honor.

  • nor will i take the course you do not urge. lol great line

  • blah blah blah empire bullshit- the video is about Mark Antony, an empire all by himself

  • Can you window lickers shut the fuck up and enjoy the pwning machine that is Mark.

  • "but i have an angry mob."

  • Mark Anthony kicks so much ass. I always smile when watching his character in action. His fight with Octavian is legendary.

  • Fine cast, great series. Biggest thumbs up to James Purefoy as Mark Antony and Ciaran Hinds as Julius Caesar.

  • @mybluecat1 Oh definitely!!!!!!

  • i love antony.... :D the silent basterd with a lot of sarcasm and frustration xD no words except SEXPARTIES WITH CLEOPATRA xD

  • Brutus' lack of balls fucked Cassius' plans over completely. There was no way Antony should have been allowed to leave their property alive.

  • They followed the story very wel, really everything is good about it, one little flaw we know almost nothing about Atia, so they gave her the really Roman matrona attitude, power behind the curtains, she also never had an affair with Anthony according 2 plutarchs M.Anthony. Marc Anthony is also epic, Vulgair among civilians, but loyal and couragous amongst his soldiers and under his general. like ceasar says in the beginning:'He has a vulgar streak, i dont mind it, he fights wel'

  • "Friend Cicero... why so pale?"

    cracks me up every time

  • @megamakbladespirit

I have just become obsessed with this series...what a fantastic show :) And Marc Antony is super hot :) Have you seen "Cicero" as Mr. Collins in the 1995 Pride and Predjudice.....,he<s awesome:)

  • @gothdiva David Bamber? yeah he is. he also played Hitler in Valkyrie, and recently as Theo in "The Borgias" (another Rome-ish series)

  • Antony got this all from Octavian

  • Marc Antony was such a boss in this show hahaha James Purefoy nailed that role perfectly, I love when he just opens that fucker's throat on the street and walks away casually haahhaha

  • i shall plow my slaves and fuck my fields...wait...

  • @fentonyoung What a blissful retirement

    ;-)

  • Where i shall plow my fields and fuck my slaves. One of the best tv lines in history :)

  • It's strange watching this show and realizing that practically every single person depicted here dies violently.

  • Friends eh?

  • Ave, True to Caesar

  • "Well, if we cannot be friends, then we shall be enemies and I will do my very best to ANNIHILATE you. >:)"

He says it so casually and cheerfully that he scares the living crap out of all of them!

  • cicero was a bastard - im referring to the history books

  • definitely the most badass character on the show. I was rooting for him the whole show, even though I knew how'd it turn out ;).

  • he had to kill that guy, lol!

  • The title for this video is very fitting! He did own everyone!

  • I surprised myself when I begann watching the second season. Never thought I'd be rooting for Antony XD~

  • I love the look on Cicero's face when he turns and sees Marc Antony ... he looked like he crapped his toga right full.

  • @bruinsfleetcommander YEAH! I thought the same thing! Poor fella, he messed up.

  • then i shall ANNIHILATE you.... XD

  • FUCKING AVENGE CAESAR

    AVENGE HIM ANTONYA

  • oooh, the Lictors' Guild, very good.

  • Is it just me or that Antony is irresizzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzztable

    quoted from "Damon Salvator"

  • We watched this today in College - I love this programme. It's brilliant!

  • in the movie cleopatra 1999 octavian finds brutus and beheads him and shows mark anthony that should have happened here.. the filty traitor. Caeser was good for the people and these fucktards screwed that up! i cant even say how Much i enjoyed watching that whore Servillia get beaten and stripped on the streets the fucking feminist! good on the guys that raped her later too!

  • I love James.

  • Haha, I always giggle a bit at the end. Stupid little Quintus.

  • Where i shall plow my fields and fuck my slaves.

  • Why did he slit that guy's throat?

  • @Jc40k1 mainly to send a message. Quintus (the other guy) had tried to kill Antony on the day of Caesar's assassination (even though Cassius said not to), so Antony's doing it to say "don't mess with me or you're next."

  • I love how in this series they *all* underestimate Octavian while merrily plotting away. He's the hidden wild card, a power waiting in the wings & Caesar foresaw his potential when no one else did....

  • @oceanpoem219 Good foreshadowing of Julius Caesar's insight was a scene when he noticed the boy Octavian snooping. Caesar called Octavian "little Owl" and then asked his bright nephew what he thought of the conversation.

  • @oceanpoem219 that's right. Antony here was only regurgitating Octavian's ideas. That's why Octavian owned everyone in then end. Awesome.

  • Lindsay Duncan is a rare, magnificent creature. How might I extol the virtues of a perfect beauty such as hers? Breathtaking.

  • This is so brilliantly written and pulled off.

There's double irony with the Lictors Guild, as they ought to have been Ceasar's bodyguard.

  • ''You are no longer Praetor'' -- Mark Anthony

LOVE THAT LINE! The delivery and loaded with subtle anger!

  • is this series as good as "Spartacus: Blood and Sand?"

b/c the 1st season of Spartacus was AWESOME! So much blood, gore, and sex!

  • @robotech987654321 Rome is more historical fiction than Spartacus. Spartacus is action flick series with badass plot and actors but more like 300. Rome has sex, blood, gore but more documentary-ish and gives a more human face to history. For example Antony in a history book may seem boring but having a face and emotions to put to the facts about him shows how badass he is.

  • @robotech987654321 spartacus is good but its a poor mans ROME , rome is the shit

  • @robotech987654321 - Rome is ten times the show Spartacus is. And that's saying something, because I very much enjoyed Spartacus. The acting quality and writing of Rome is just far and beyond what Spartacus was. You should definitely watch it.

  • It must be done this way.

  • This is one of the best acted TV shows ever.

  • @alexkrycek21 +1. Totally agree.

  • Download the audio from this video at tubepull doht cohm.

  • Cassius: "WHAT ELECTIONS?" 3:17 LMAO!!

  • plow my fields and fuck my slaves .... best line

  • The son of Pompey the great was not kill like this actualy he buit a army after he saw hes father kill in egypt and won 2battles vs octavian last battle was naval battle that he lost whent to turkey where he was killed by a centurion on orders of octavian

  • AND THEY ALL GET THEIRS IN THE END HAHAHAHAH KARMA

  • What's the matter Cicero? Why you scared? Oh wait, I remember;

"If I ever again here your name connected with murmurs of treachery, I will cut off these soft pink hands, and nail them to the senate door."

    -Antony to Cicero

  • @adkinsjr and later "Your old friend Crassus, when he was captured by the Parthians...Is it true that they poured molten gold down his throat ?"

-again Antony to Cicero.Cicero had to change his pants later.

  • antony is a soldier he knows how to kill, that guy was a dumbass if he thought the contrary

  • "Nor will I take the course you... do not urge."

I love the way they speak.

  • This is why I loved the series. Each word in this scene is loaded with Venom, even the polite words are filled with threat.

There is no confusing the fact ever one in that room is an enemy and that the only thing keeping this meeting from becoming a blood bath is the formality of hospitality.

  • Can't you just see this in the Kremlin after Stalin's death?

  • @Saiaton khurschev replaced him thats like manson replacing dahmer

  • Id turn pale too, and Im black.

  • I LOVE how they didn't use the Shakespeare line "You too Brutus?" when Caesar was assassinated, but they reference it here in this scene when Brutus turns "You too, mother?". Haha! I always get a good laugh out of that. Brilliant script!

  • @Falcon988

The script writers are probably following Plutarch's account of Caesar's assassination. In Plutarch's account, Caesar didn't say anything but tried to hide his face in his toga.

  • @Falcon988 man. i should stop reading the comments to videos of rome. this series is delicious but has dark subtle humor. aka the best kind

  • @Falcon988 cause he said it in real life, Shakespeare afcourse had read books like: Plutarch, Lucanus, Seutonius etc etc '' Et tu''

  • I wish people would stop saying that "Rome" was canceled. It was not canceled, it was over. HBO did what they set out to do..show the rise of Julius Caesar and Octavian..period. It was the most expensive show in history, 2 seasons were costly enough. "Deadwood" fans suffered more, a 4th and final season of "Deadwood" was scrapped so HBO could do the 2nd and final season of "Rome".

  • @WiseGuy5674 it was canceled the writers wanted at least 4 seasons but it cost too much.

  • When Antony slit's Quintus's throat, you can tell those two guys in the background are thinking "Holy shit"

  • I love how @ :53 Antony looks at the slave girl like "hmm... I'd hit that"

  • Mr. PUREFOY is my hero.

  • I never got into this series and I really wish I had. :(

  • IMO Antony carried this show, The other characters were good, but he was EPIC, like Tony Soprano was on The Sopranos. It's a shame that "ROME" never quite caught on, I thought it was Great.

  • "you, too, mother" the irony XD

  • killed his bitch ass

  • this is when I am proud of the fact that I am descended from this guy...........

  • I was really glad when Antony gave it to Quintus..!

  • MR. PUREFOY GIVES Us A VERY PROUD VISION OF AN INTERESTING PERSON ,I Don't DOUBT REALISTIC .G.FRONZI

  • ...surely you thought this through....?

    LOL

  • "If we cannot be friends, then we shall be enemies ... and I will do my very best to _annihilate you_."

    That shut Servilia up :D

  • "a vulgar beast eh?" LOL

  • I loved that move outside, right across the throat buwahaha

  • Mark Anthony is GANGSTER at 3:47 when he says that elections will have to be held. Pure political genius!

  • @Aulelia27 I so agree with you and he is political genius. He's gangsta

  • @Aulelia27 Actually it was Octavian's idea that Antony was following. Octavian's the real genius behind this move.

  • @Aulelia27 actually that was Octavian's idea but still he had to have guts to go there and talk with those dick heads.

  • @Ding0D0g I just love Mark Anthony's delivery in this whole scene. It's brilliant.

  • @Aulelia27 yeah and scene after funerals when he says "And I have an angry mob, that will roast and eat your 'men of quality' in the ashes of the Senate House!" it's like he's drawing a picture of it.. awsome

  • "Ooh, the lictors guild, very good. Only rally the bakers and the flute players and you can put on a festival!"

Best line..but then again I am a sucker for good sarcasm.

  • Laughable. He wants the dirty work done but does'nt want to do it himself. A typical politician.

  • never seen rome in my life. now i must see it. i love mark antony.

  • Friend Cicero...why so pale?

  • "surely you've thought these through..."

    pwned

  • ...And fuck my slaves."

  • " you to mother " ... anybody else get that part

  • @hhhxxxhhh Et tu mater

  • @hhhxxxhhh Hell yea, that's a hilarious moment in the series

  • all empires will end like this include usa...

  • @migu9999 lol usa's not an empire, try something like britain in the 19s

  • @AlexOfMacedonAOMH The USA might not be an empire yet, but at this point if you look at it parallels Rome pretty well. At the moment it is basically at the point where the Republic is in full swing and all Italy is under their control. Give them time; the Roman republic went a good 400 years before collapsing completely, the USA should have another century or so before the troubles really start.

  • @TheNeverNevermore It's tempting to take your point, but not yet. Anyway, Rome controlled far more than what we know as Italy, far more. And for far longer than 400 years!

  • @msrockin The 400 years refers to the time elapsed since the explusion of Tarquin the proud up to the civil wars, it is not precise but certainly the empire lasted far longer, just not the republic. And true again that at this point Rome had Greece, Spain, North Africa (pretty much), Asia Minor and had just conqoured Gaul. The USA is behind on that scheduel, but I never claimed that the USA was an exact parallel, just that there are similarities in their development.

  • @TheNeverNevermore Check out US military bases, you have soldiers all over the mid east, Europe and E. Asia. The USA has an empire, they just don't celebrate it like the Romans did but it exists.

  • @ImaginedWriter we dont have an empire we are a World Super Power.

  • @Hitman250611 Yes you do have an Empire, what did the thirteen colonies after independence? They expanded across the continent through warfare with Britain in the north, Mexico in the South and the native tribes west. The US mainland is roughly the size of the Roman empire, furthermore you have client kingdoms in the gulf who you protect. You're occupying several countries at the moment. And you have military bases i.e. armies across the continent of Europe & elsewhere.

  • @ImaginedWriter a group of nations or peoples ruled over by an emperor, empress, or other powerful sovereign or government: usually a territory of greater extent than a kingdom, as the former British Empire, French Empire, Russian Empire, Byzantine Empire, or Roman Empire.

    2.

a government under an emperor or empress.

    3.

( often initial capital letter ) the historical period during which a nation is under such a government: a history of the second French empire.

  • @Hitman250611 Again compare the city of Rome in 753BC with the 13 colonies in 1776 to the USA today and Rome in 52BC. There was giant military expansion in both cases. The Romans would never conquer straight away, they would first create client kingdoms like Saddam in the 8-'s but if they got in the way they took over like Iraq today. The USA has an empire, it just doesn't shout about it but it's there and everyone knows it.

  • @ImaginedWriter just because we have bases around the world doesnt mean we control that country. we just have bases overseas. again we are a WORLD SUPER POWER. do you know what an empire is?

  • @Hitman250611 Right so the Japanese chose to give up their military's, nuclear abilities to you on a whim and the Iraqis and Afghans are in total control of their country. You americans are just there on holiday. And the native Americans decided to just exterminate themselves and give you their land whilst the Mexicans decided to give up half their country to you.

Either you are highly uneducated or you're being deceitful. You have an empire, deal with it.

  • @ImaginedWriter dude lol. we didnt exterminate them. Britain France(maybe) especially Spain did so.(u fking uneducated bch attacking me not knowing who i am).

empire means political control exercised by one organized political unit over another unit separate from and alien to it.

  • @Hitman250611 You are a retard why don't you look at the territorial extent of the 13 colonies in 1776 to the USA today. Are the Hawains or Native Americans on reservations not an alien culture to the Euro Americans who conquered them, and we all know how the Iraqis and Afghans are the same as Americans, right with the ability to vote in the US. You should just stfu before opening your mouth. Stop trying to deny the native american holocaust carried out by american scum.

  • @ImaginedWriter dude first of all. most of the land we have we bought.second HOW THE FK ARE IRAGIS AND APGHANS AMERICANS? ARE U STUPID?!?!? obviously u are! DIDNT U READ THE DEFINITION OF EMPIRE U STUPID BCH??! we have military bases around the world. BUT WE DO NOT CONTROL THEIR GOVERNMENT U DUMASS!

  • @Hitman250611 The fact they're not Americans but their country is controlled by Americans was my fucking point you stupid retard, learn to fucking read. And most of the continent of the US was not bought but taken through force of arms, or have you just forgotten about the Mexican-American war, Tecumseh's War, Seminole Wars, Arikara War, Le Fèvre Indian War, Black Hawk War, First Sumatran Expedition, Navajo Wars, occupation of the Philippines etc..

You're a cunt and typical retard yank.

  • @ImaginedWriter have you learned of the lousiana purchase? that right there s half our country. WE DO NOT CONTROL GOVERNMENT. again we have bases there. u stupid brit.

  • @ImaginedWriter The Navajo are treacherous absorbers of other cultures, the best thing that ever happened to them was the incursion of white culture into their territory. This gave them the legal justification to push out and take away ancestral lands from other tribes, mainly the Hopi...

  • brutus and cassius were fucking arrogant pricks, Caesar should have killed them when he had the chance. "better men" my ass

  • haha the look on ciceros face when antony appears, after saying they made a mistake not killing him, haha

  • I never really liked Cicero, historically and in "Rome". Accroding to Plutarch he was wise, to which even I give credit to, however he was a coward.

  • @TheAstonishingJosh . I understand what you say that they made Cicero into a politically devious person that changed sides more often than I change my socks(j not really). I think the producers wanted to portray a Cicero who was ready to adapt with the dangerous political climate that was Rome portrayed in the series. This orator, lawyer and philosopher was perhaps one the greatest Romans ever lived.

  • @blackarawak83 Perhaps, but he was not the most modest. Haha I am suprised his head fitted onto the screen.

  • @blackarawak83 Cicero was an ass. Never did anything for himself.

  • That I loved about Rome aside from the fact that every hot girl the show introduced got buck ass naked and fucked was the dialog is amazing, you got to love the psycological chess games they always play. Can't wait for the movie!

  • And the lesson is, don't fuck with Antony.

  • @mrchrisdavis09 Damn Right!!! I totally agree with you.

  • @mrchrisdavis09 ...unless you are Octavian.

  • @unclenklebroksankle True, but Antony fucks him up proper before Octavian gets his own back.

  • @mrchrisdavis09 I think the lesson is that when you kill the master, kill his loyal big toothed dog as well.

  • Not likely.

  • Mark Antony is not a dog Cicero!!!!! Too bad he heard you and he's right behind you.

  • Jame's is a very handsome bloke and a bloody good actor. Pardon the word 'bloody'.

  • I loved this show. Marc Antony's character was fun to watch. The conspirators against Caesar made a huge mistake by not killing Antony as well. I guess they underestimated him.

  • @calanero in reall life he never was a threat and never would be.

under ceasar he was nothing but a puppet and after ceasar he was first to put down his arms in the civil war.

  • i agree,,,fantastic series!..but theyr portrayall of cicero is a bit iffy.!!

  • @TheMontybach agreed, i liked the series, but what was iffy about ciceros' potrayal? My dad is a huge rome buff, and he really enjoyed the series, but he said the same about cicero... im just curious...I never got to ask him-

  • ppl need to realize at philippi, antony controlled one army and octavian another, antony beat cassius and brutus beat octavian, phillipi was antony's victory

  • loved Rome, one of my fav series ever. 1 thing always bothered me though was how they protrayed Cicero as snivelling and wish washy. Almost cowardly. Cicero was not a coward, and probably the fiercest defender of the 'Republic" in that age.

  • Cicero was like most he was fierces when there was little risk for himself.

If there was a looming danger for him, he didn't say much.

    The series get him right.

  • @Huganis Cicero was not a soldier, but a politician. His words was his sword, and he wielded it with the most skill at that time. May i remind you, that he WAS killed for his words (Antony was absolutely crazed with anger), which makes your statement alittle off kilter.

  • @Evocati2008 Well Cicero did have Antony's step father killed, so I can see why he hated Cicero so much. Cicero was still a coward. He wanted the job done, but not willing to do it himself. He was just like Demosthenes. He called the wolf out to play, but when the wolf came, he slank back in the shadows and let other people take care of the wolf for him.

  • @Evocati2008

To be honest, I never really saw Cicero as snivelling or washy in Rome. When he mocks Antony later and escapes, that's just smart. If you watch the episode later on when Pullo is sent to kill him, Cicero isn't exactly cowardly at all. He refuses to run and faces his fate. He reacts in a wimpy manner to certain events, such as Antony suddenly turning up after he's suggested that the Junii kill him, but I think that's how anyone would react if they did the same thing.

  • excellent actors, its a pity there was no season 3. Lets just continue watching those other retarded shows (american idol, lost, ...........)

  • doesent marc antony end up comanding the army that kills brutus
