I need that book ! Believe it or not but in France, it's so hard to find books about make-up before the 70's/80's. :( The only one I found was so bad and the informations were wrong.
I think we would all love to see your history of makeup and hair through the decades. It would be wonderful to see you break the video into two parts, normal, day time look and then a look that would work either for the evening or what a starlet would wear. What a treat for all of us to look forward to!
History of make-up and beauty is facinating. Did you know that Queen Elizabeth I whitenen her face using a mixture of white lead and vinegar... highly poisonous!
I think it's a great idea. I know I would like to see a 1920's makeup tutorial that was more "everyday" and colorful than the normal "flapper" type tutorial that we all see on youtube. hope that made sense.
I love your idea!!! I'm also very interested in history of make up, and hairstyles, I hope some way I can get this book altough I think it is a little lot of money for me at the moment
I would love to see that historical walk-through series if you do decide to make them! I think you could explain and show so many new information of those eras for most of us!
So thrilled you did this review! I had no idea that book existed, but now I have to have it. I too am fascinated with the history of style and beauty. This video took me bck to when I was obsessed in high school and would spend hours in the library reading about it. Time I get back into it.
So that being said, please if you feel like you're really drawn to the project and you'd enjoy putting it together, then totally go for it :) I'll be watching and cheering you on the whole way! :)
I found a book that might interest you : "Vintage Style" by Sarah Kennedy! I read it in a bookstore and it was full of info about icons' style (makeup, fashion hair) and giving tips on how to recreate them! I'm going to get these two books! Also, I'd like to read the book on Max Factor!
I would love to see a historical walk-through of the decades of style! Please do the series! I'm especially interested in the idea of having history videos to go along with the tutorials.
I enjoyed your review. I was thinking about purchasing the book, and you have definitely given me the push to get it. I really want to read the section about the Vikings! For the series you are thinking about, how far back would you go? 10s-60s? A bit before or after? The 2-part per time period sounds fabulous!
Ooohhhh, yes, yes do that series! You must!!! Please do it. I said it before, but I personally would adore seeing some interviews with older women from those decades, just about how they did their makeup and hair and things like that. You are such a warm person, you would get a lot from those women. I love hearing from older generations about their old ways. Please consider it!
@lisaturtle13 What a great idea!! I'll definitely interview my mom for the 50's episode and I'll also think about finding someone for the others. I can flippin well interview myself for the 80's ...sigh. haha
Thanks for showing us this fab book! It seems like there are alot of accurate photos & videos of looks from the mod 60's, the peace-hippie 70's,material girl 80's & techno 90's, but ya just don't see much on the 20's thru 50's. Sure, there are the photos of flappers, poodle skirts, saddle oxfords and pony tails, but not much TRUE representation of those eras. Would love, love, love it if you would do a history of those! :) You're the best!
Oh Lisa and another question since your hair is that length now will you be making tutorials inspired by those with the same or similar cut as you from those eras? like, Anne Baxter? or 1920s wave.
What a wonderful idea! That will give us the opportunity to be educated as well...in my situation I will find that totally helpful since sometimes these things/information are not available for everyone. So I think many of us will appreciate you putting in some history in the vids! We'd be really grateful!
100 percent with ya! You always have amazing vids and great ideas! Thank you so much for always sharing! And PS You look great!
I would LOVE to see a series of looks through the decades. Please, do it. :) You explain things soo well and I learn so much. I'm really interested in getting that book. I do have the Vintage Face one and I love it.
I love the idea for a history series, I haven't seen anything like it on other beauty/vintage channels! Oh and I must check out the book, so interesting :)
A series like that would go perfectly with the starlet series you did awhile back... And you absolutely could go all the way up to 70's-80's, because Kate Jackson had short hair and Molly Ringwald had short hair, and I'm sure they weren't the only ones but they were the first that came to mind in my personal catalog of favorites.
I've already commented on Facebook, but I wanna re-iterate how much I would LOVE to see the review of make up through the ages. Although I would miss your tutorials, who wouldn't, I think it would be totally worthwhile and I think your just the person to do it!
