  • War is not an option!

    Wonderful, touching song...

  • marshawn lynch hold ma dick

  • oh and suck my cock

  • this sound like my asshole seeping green goo

  • Good questions! Thanks for verbalizing them without being hateful toward any one group/person and being patriotic at the same time.

  • I know griffin house my dad was there when he was born his dad brian house is my dads best friend

  • Awesome!

  • Great Song! If you were touched by this you may be a Ron Paul supporter. If not, check him out because we veterans don't want to keep dying for the sake of privatizing oil .. Ron Paul 2012!

  • @thejoolien ...its his year, its gotta be. i have seen a lot of troops starting to support paul cause all they wanna do is come home at this point, its been to damn long.

  • all thumbs should be up for this!

  • I love this song sooooooo much

  • I USED TO BE OBSESSED WITH THIS SONG.

  • This song always makes me cry at the end. So powerful. So true.

  • nice song

  • griffin house is amazing, stumbled upon them on accident and now its one of my favorite groups

  • @FireRebel147 not a group

  • OMG this song gave me the chills. We must schange the EMPIRE we have become, back to that of the Founder's vision, a humble foreign policy,

Commerce with all, alliances with none.

  • "if we dont change our hearts, we repeat the past again" so true!

  • goose bumps

  • most certainly a fitting song for remembrance day! lest we forget

  • Wow, thats all i gotta say.

  • I like the footage of modern warfare converted to 1940's film quality. It really helps the comparison.

  • i just want to tell that it's one of the best song i have ever really listen

  • Congress voting no to fund the war because they want to bring them home "cough" Vietnam "cough," which leaves our troops in harms way with less equipment and air support. Washington don't know history and look to repeat it, Korea, Vietnam and soon to add Iraq/Afghanistan. Don't look to me as saying drag the war on, bring them home, don't cut funding, history shows that brings them home in a box. I've had relatives in wars all the way to the north and south, documented so far.

  • Great song, and the lyrics give you something to think about. War is not something from the past only.

  • I love Griffin House.....I think all his songs are amazing.

  • the lyrics sound, at times, like a joke! you know what it mean?!?! but its an amazing song!

  • A song with a message! Finally! I got tired of the superficial crap.

  • i think of my friend who wants to join the marines at the end

  • Bono, Cash, and Dylan all rolled into one!

  • @boxerjeep I know Right!

  • Love the song and love the video. Saw him in Boston last year, and I like his new material more than his older stuff. I hope that means the best is yet to come.

  • He is from my home town! My family has been friends with my family for like ever!

  • if that is true tell him a group of people from south texas tell him T'HANK YOU for the music its inspirational!!'

  • your family is friends with your family??? lol :)

  • my parents saw him in concert - he performed with the cranberries. after they heard him perform they bought two of his albums and he signed them, now this songs one of my favorites

  • This song is what's up. He sounds like Bono but the lyrics sound like a Johnny cash song..

  • in this song he reminds me on johnny cash...

  • He's got a Bono voice going on

  • Just heard him in San Fran last night! He was great! Best show ever!

  • I went to the cranberries show in NYC lastnight and he opened. He was GREAT, i never heared of him before that

  • yeah i saw him open for the cranberries in Milwaukee and thought this song was awesome. he rocks. i never heard of him either before that lol

  • Dam Japs

  • the hell man.

  • he opened for cranberries in baltimore, thats how i heard this song

  • God bless our troops.

  • I hear a Simon and Garfunkel influence.

  • i heard about griffin house from the opening of cranberries reunion tour...and i really like their music!

  • Don't miss Griffin House LIVE opening for the Cranberries on their reunion tour Nov/Dec 09!

  • Perhaps the most beautiful video and truthful song I've ever witnessed. Ever.

  • first time i heard this song it reminded me "with god on our side" by Dylan.

    great song

  • nice song, pretty mawkish though

  • Pretty fucking epic song

  • i don't think he's saying that all christians believe in the war, but there was definitely a prevalence of christian fundamentalists who backed bush and believed that the wars in iraq/afghanistan are/were a battle of christians vs. muslims.

  • fuckin religious shit

  • those are christian muslim fights. ....and they're fucking retarded.

  • he was pointing out the contradiction of having separation of church and state in public education, yet using the christian religion as a national defense policy.

  • i love this song and most fo the lyrics, however i really don't think it's fair to blame Christian's for war. There are a lot of Christian's that believe strongly in non-resistance.

  • amazing song... great harmonica, lyrics etc. BUT, war is not always evil, and it was never Christianity that was the excuse for our current wars... It was the attack on our country. seriously, why can't people just understand that if we didn't fight we wouldn't exist??? Nazism, Communism, radical Islamic terrorism... it's all the same thing. There IS evil [like Bush, Obama, McCain, Clinton, and the rest have said] and we sometimes have to fight against it... as hard as it may be to do.

  • Unbelievably awesome lyrics

  • This is an amazing song...deserves grammy for its strikin lyrics

  • wow he sticks a harmonica in there wow .....awesome song ...what caps it is the last line ....really .think about it ... then he goes my best friend overseas in the desert where its dry fighting for our country and i need a reason why

  • Well my gramps fought in WWII. :)

    Griffin House is amazing.

  • if his grandfather was on the arizona, hes lucky to be here. that ship is still at the bottom of pearl harbor.

  • Just added this to my favs.

  • semper fi, love the song

  • You may want to pick up a history book.

  • did someone say legit???

    he awwsum

  • This is an underrated song.

  • Hey...does anyone have the song entitled "Ordinary day"? If u do, please post it..I just love it. I heard it in a movie, and i can't take it out of my mind. Thanks

  • nice.. sorta sounds like johnny cash on guitar and bono from u2 singing.

  • actually, yeah he does! never noticed that before.

  • I have always thought the same thing about him sounding like Johnny Cash. Never noticed the similarity to Bono though :)

  • I know the guy in the video!! Representing Springfield, Ohio!!!!!!!!!

  • he has a jonny cash thing going for him right now

  • SUPER

    :D

    5 *

  • Griff is an amazing artist...if you're wondering whether or not to buy his music, go ahead, you won't be let down. He is VERY fun to see live, I suggest you you do so.

  • itunes...

  • This song makes me cry and always relaxes me. I think about my brother and how hes going into the military in just 2 short years, and how it breaks my heart. But I'm going to let him go with an open heart and a loving smile.

  • Very Johnny Cash.

  • really there is something special about this fellow......i love his songs....especially this 1.

  • This entire song has an incredible message and should be distributed to the young who have become enveloped into the world that is rap music filled with language that shouldn't be common household terms. I hope you guys agree...

  • I agree that this song's message is very solid. I saw him live a few nights ago, and this song spoke to me.

However, please don't lump all the youth of today in the same group. And please don't lump all rap music in one group entitled "trash".

  • Almost all the WWII veterans are gone but we need to remember

  • my grandad is

  • It's ridiculous how good music like this isn't recognized yet rapping about "bitches and money" is huge. Whatever, so stoked to see GH at Kilby Court in SLC in 2 days!

  • i totally agree!

  • truly...

  • the lyrics to this song are incredible and i get chill bumps every time i listen to it

  • I totally agree with you miss stephanie. He is so much better live. I'd only heard one song by him when i went to the concert, and this song gave me chill bumps. he even got choked up at the end. it was all i could do to keep from crying.

  • Were you at the show in Charleston on Friday night?

  • ahha yea i was. do you go to cofc??

  • Nope, I go to USC, but I never miss a Needtobreathe show, so I was there. I am in Charleston at least once a week. Sometimes more than that! Are you at CofC?

  • my sister went to that concert also... she goes to cofc

  • This song is even more amazing live! I can't say that for many people, but Griff is incredible!

  • o cool this is the song he sang at my school a couple years ago, truly great artist.

  • The older fellow in the movie is Griffin's grandfather. I grew up around the corner and used to go over to the Griffin's house everyday after school :)

  • I wish they would come to england

  • "They ... " The soldiers? Or Griffin House? Either way, "they" both did. In WWII, though there are always US soldiers in GB ... Griffin House was there with Jane Siberry in 2006, because that's when I met him and learned of his music ... and he's such a genuine, decent guy actually. Really really nice. And his pianist is MOST amazing.

  • Every one give me a poor comment, thumbs down.

  • great tune and great disc too

  • G-D bring 'em home again!

  • seen G.H. in Boston came out with just a white tee shirt regular joe he was very good

  • Saw Griffin open for Xavier Rudd a week ago. Just a plain guy from the midwest, but has a great voice, sounds just like his cd. Has a great respect for his Grandpa. Pretty funny guy also, he thanked Xavier Rudd by saying "I'm just glad I have a job for the month."

  • I saw griffin sing this live...he's just as amazing!

  • beautiful

  • It will happen only one time again!

  • I don't think you guys get what this song is about. It doesn't agree with the war, but that's not what the song is really about. It's about the question "Is it right?" not "It is wrong" and the desire for a friend not to be in danger in vain. At least that's my take.

  • whaaaaaaa!!!!! my bleeding heart keeps me up. nah im kidding i watch the news of whats happening here crime wise. you crackers will pay.

  • Hotsaucetwo: First, I am curious if you have traveled extensively (independently of US military) or lived abroad. Second, are you aware that the majority of the world now considers the US the biggest threat to legitimate democracy, some humane organizations even counting the US as a terrorist organization?

  • I'd be interested in seeing the poll of the 6.7 billion people currently residing on this planet that has a majority considering the US the biggest threat to legitimate democracy (as opposed to Iran, Sudan, Zimbabwe, Venezuela, North Korea...).

  • amen brother

  • Many do because these ones are localized as they tend to just stay around in their own country (with a little spillover) Where as US is fighting in countries half way around the world from themself.

  • Humm... I agree the government isn't perfect and wouldn't it be great if we could help everyone in need? But my idea of right is equality- for all that want it and to me helping those in need is the "right" thing to do. Our troops are out there giving their lives for the freedom/ "democracy" that us Americans were so blessed & born into. So your "opinion"/ belief: let the Communists be Communists?.. and turn our backs to the unthinkable... sounds pretty self absorbed and naive if you ask me.

  • Aside from religion and whether or whether not peace or war is inevitable. What I think we all have the hardest time realizing is that we are all the same. We're fighting against people who are fighting against us. They have family, they have friends. Peace is so hard to imagine. But it's so sad that we can't all just set aside the things we disagree on and just live together. The song is just saying history repeats itself. But it's a great song.

  • no i think what starts shit is pretty much the urge for power(trying to be better then the rest) and also money (which is power) .. if u pretty much take the idiots out of society(the easy manipulated and the sheep) then i think that there might be more peace but on the other hand people by nature are idiots greedy selfish and easily destracted. also they never ? if everyone ? our existing powers (religion etc No im not supporting a revolt or any of that shit) there might be a chance at peace.

  • ok i don't believe in what he is talking about religion thats one the main reasons we go to war people are stupid its in our nature to kill each other over small shit mark my words im not saying that religion is wrong it gives some people hope for their future. man will ill themselves before a outside force can intervene ...

  • So you think people just kill eath other for"stupid shit"? Don't you believe in brotherly love, injustices, right vs. wrong? If people weren't trying to take advantage of their own, kill their own, torture and brutalize their own then maybe others(U.S.)wouldn't have to step up to them. These people are significant, being at odds with others doesn't mean we hate humanity! Just hard for me to imagine the lives of those living in fear, isolation, captivity... I'd want someone to rescue me too.

  • first there is no right or wrong there is only your point of view and yes people do kill themselves and each other over stupid shit also US is guilty for doing the same shit as other country's that r "wrong" and sometimes the shit the US steps into is for the wrong reasons for instance the Vietnam war they wern't communists the were pushing for the same thing that the US was pushing when it was founded

  • people just are idiots and are blinded easily thats why they thought they were going to the vietnam war to fight communisum also if the US is so great at steping in then why dont we do something about darfour, the people we liberated in the middle east turned around and started a genocide on darker skined people becouse its "gods will" why wont we help them ? its because if we do the middle east will turn our backs on us and stop selling oilUS only intervines because its in our best interest 2

  • .. i can so relate to what he want us to feel even though in in my teens

  • you guys realy like this? xD

at least there are no shaking butts and boobs and all of that...

    but stil dude XD.....

  • This is an amazing song, however, something must be explained.

War is inevitable, for humanity is threatened by every shadow in the brush. For war to not exist, humanity would not exist.

  • Peace is inevitable, but you've got to be brave.

When we choose to die instead of fight, that's when we'll have peace on earth, so choose wisely.

  • The mark of an immature man is that he wants to die nobly for a cause, while the mark of a mature man is that he wants to live humbly for one. --William Stekel

  • I disagree.

  • war cannot be stopped, it can only be delayed...

  • I just found out that my brother is headed to Iraq for a year. This song sums up exactly how I feel. Thank you.

  • this is an awsome video well done

  • Through violence you murder the hater, but you do not murder hate. In fact, violence merely increases hate.... Returning violence for violence multiplies violence, adding deeper darkness to a night already devoid of stars. Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

  • right on

  • Fantastic song! I like the powerful message, but disabling text comments might not be a bad idea. Seems every time someone says Jesus, a lot of people feel compelled to use YouTube as their forum for morality. By the way, it's a SONG! A damn good one at that.

  • I love this song, i think its poweful to

  • NettwerkMusic ~ this is a very cool video. thank you.

    Petrifiedhippy

  • I like this song.

  • oh well here i go anyway...

could anyone name the instance of what is historically inaccurate? Just because you don't agree with his interpretation of history doesn't mean that the facts are wrong no matter how convenient in would be for you to believe so.

  • i am astounded by the level of ignorance displayed here, most specifically matthew. ( by the way, did it ever occur to anyone to comment on the actual musical character, content or quality of the song?) honestly i almost didn't want to post this, simply because i didn't want to be associated with a thread this amazingly moronic.

  • Shut up Matthew, dont post on something thats ganna piss people off. It's people like you who make everyone pissed and give people bad neames for that...fuck off prick.

  • Unfortunately, for you to express that opinion about what you feel Jesus would or wouldn't support requires someone to fight for freedoms. I am not a biblical scholar, but it seems god sent many armies to war in the old testament. Very good song... we have a reason...

  • this is a good song

  • lyics are rivieting

  • See when I hear that line "and I need a reason why" it is so stereopical it makes that part boring

  • It's a great song, and while historically inaccurate, has a powerful message. He's a very good lyricist. My favorite bit is about his friend, fighting in our current war, and he uses the line, "and I need a reason why."

    Great song.

  • Griffin House is such an under rated talent. This song however is much too idealistic. If only it was that easy.

Anyway, great voice, great melody but the message best be lost upon all of us.

  • The song also says American wars are about relgion. This has never been the case. American leaders have awlays be very secular and have support conflict through complex arguements which emphasies human and not relgious ideals

  • To borrow another Griffin House lyric, "you can't see the forest when you're there among the trees." The song doesn't need to be historically accurate to be effective.

  • Now, I'm not a christian, but I have read the bible and Jesus did support the use of violence to achieve goals

  • Secondly he comapres WW2 Veitnam and Iraq arguing that they were all wrong and infact all wars are wrong. All though Veitnam and Iraq are contraversial, few would say that that fighting the Germans and Japanese or that all forms a violence are wrong.

Sure their are passifists and isolationist, but their seeking to remove themselves from the problem just makes them even more part of it for not doing anything.

  • wow... not at all what House is saying. Seems there are issues that you are dealing with that you are putting on this song that aren't there. Good luck with your issues.

  • And by this point I just want to let it go, knowing that Esau has no idea what he's talking about... but for some reason I just can't.

You're actually wrong about Jesus, Esau... He never supported violence... You can look through the new testament and probably come up with some justification for it (people have done it before), but it's not there. I know that violence seems to make rational sense (and I'm fine with that), but Jesus never supports it, rational or not.

  • I acually just heard this song this afternoon,

it is a very nice song.

It's very difficult to right a song that both

sounds good and has a political message.

I am a history buff, however, and due to the hsitroical inaccurcies and flawed logic of the song it is a big turn off for me.

First off their were no kamazise that attacked the Arizona in December 1941, the Japanese did not use kamakzies until they were about done

  • Esau... You know that House isn't writing a historical document right? He's telling a story... and in this particular story the narrator (which happens to be his grandfather at this point) "mis-remembers"... in literature that's called an unreliable narrator... But that doesn't mean that the sentiment of the story is "inaccurate"... See, I'm a writing buff... well, actually just a writer... so your use of "right" when you meant "write" is a big turn off to me.

  • i dont even like country im a huge mtal head but fuck this song is awesome
