oh leave her alone...... its an "interpretation" she can play it any freaking way she wants. If she even wanted to play the harp with her feet instead of her hands there's no reason why she couldn't. I personally liked it played fast!!
I love harp music. It's beautiful and there's just something about listening to your own instrument that's nice. I've played for 8 years, and am always looking for good harpists to listen to or watch, so I can maybe emulate some of the good things they do.
OMW!!! I CANT GET OVER HOW GOOD U ARE!!! i hope, one day,ill be as good as u!! I get taught by Wendy Stewart and Alison Kanred ( Dont know how you spell her last name :()but, like how long do u practice for?? and how long have u been playing?? iv only been playing since i was 10 (for 4 years now :o)
Yes, I agree that this piece will sound good at a slower pace, if played on a violin because a violin can sustain long notes. My interpretation of this piece played on a harp is intended to sound upbeat, so as to entertain a young audience.
@Bigoeastlake I read your comment before seeing the entire clip. I was therefore expecting to see wiggly ELEMENTARY SCHOOL age CHILDREN. Not teenagers ! Gee, we have to totally ruin a 2 minute piece of music to suck up to their ever diminishing attention spans now? Do keep in mind that she played through the "piece" twice. Once, all I could hear was the Bach, and it's tempo was like ADHD on crack, then she attempts to influence them with some beauty on the Gounod. Altogether deplorable.
@Qwinkly3 Magdalene Wong is a teacher of wide recognition in Singapore with a history of being a teacher of classical guitar for the Yamaha Music Company for over twenty years, as well as being the official representative of the Aoyama Harp manufacturing company. When she modifies an arrangement for a particular audience, she invariably gets rave reviews. With all due respect, I'll take her professionalism over yours. And in my experience, most teenagers are still "wiggly." But thank you.
@singaporeharpist To entertain a young audience? I'm pretty sure junior college students are mature enough to comprehend something more profound, i.e. slower tempos.

Could we try and employ a little bit of decorum and etiquette when responding to videos on You-Tube?
This harpist has already made a pre-emptive statement with regard to her intended target audience.
Musicians the world over are surely entitled to their own interpretation of a piece of music.

You guys should listen to the Prelude for Cello Suite No. 1. The similarity is huge.

She is a good harpist, but I don't think this piece shall be raced through like that. Sounds much better at a more moderate pace.

How very sensitive and understanding of Magdalene to modify her performance to match the young audience's capacity to "sit still and listen."
