@NASAtelevision Could you please post up some higher resolution of this video? Maybe even publish some of the data that was procured as these booster were falling back to earth.
@niravfest The video is high resolution. The camera becomes blurred because of the formation of icecrystals and water droplets infroint of the camera. At that altitude its below freezing point and gases exist in liquid form. Except if you want nasa to put some windshield wipers which will be a good idea...
@RobertsDigital Hah ha. No wipers. What a waste of money. I wonder what the resolution of the video is here. I suppose it would be nice if we could download the source video. I'm sure there is some loss by way of youtube compression.
@silentcompany To align itself to the point in space it wants to go, to align antennas from the orbiter to satellites, also the tank protects the orbiter in the thick atmosphere and to give the crew a reference on earth for abort modes.
@silentcompany The orbiter's communications antennas communicate with a ground station on Merritt Island in the initial phase of ascent, and the antennas would be masked by the SRBs and external tank structure. A few minutes later, the STS rolls to a heads-up attitude as it gets handed off to one of the Tracking and Data Relay Satellites over the Atlantic Ocean.
Thats f*'**ing awesome. In the view looking up from the left booster, just on take off is that a bird it hits? you can see birds then after it takes off something black falls off the nose.
Fantastic video and sound! I remember the first shuttle launch - it seemed unbelievable at the time. I am sad to see the program end but looking forward to the next generation of manned space flight.
@lilnklord85 Shuttle's flight to orbit is far from over when SRBs separate. In fact, most of the work to reach it is being done by the main engines. You can't really say you've left earth until you're in orbit.
both solid rocket boosters discharged "something" right before impact with the water that left a circular wake. Is that the bottom portion of the rocket? If so how large a piece and is it teathered to the rest for retrieval later or just sicks to the bottom?
@carlwitt75 I asked the same thing. I searched around and found this...
"It releases the nozzle extension from the end of the booster. The rational is, impacting the water with the large nozzle extension would place excessive stress on the rest of the booster."
@NewEraQuality NASA is American but they do employ people form all over the world. The Europeans and other nations also have their own space agencies.
@VideosTubeForever Dude, if Russia had the money they would of left Earth, settled on Mars and begun interstellar trading with aliens during the 80's.
shortly after takeoff from spectator pov you cant hear anything, you can only watch the shuttle go up and up. then a couple minutes later you hear it because its goin faster than sound can travel. much faster. trust me i have it a few times in person. pretty cool i'd say
Not many people can say they've lived in South America, Asia, Africa, North American and Europe before they turned 16, like I have. Even fewer, in fact barely any can say they've been to space; I know I can't.
One day, maybe, I can.
Congratulations on having a successful launch Endeavour and all those that worked on it :)
@Chronick It's the parachute system being deployed. They don't deploy until they're pretty close to the water. Just enough time slow them down enough to prevent damage.
@Parstices I don't think that is what it is. The chutes deploy about 25 seconds before the boosters hit the water. You can see this at 18:54. Also, at 19:14 you can see the smoke and debris from the event I speak of.
Cool!!!!!!!!

You know how when you back away from an object, visually it decreases in size much slower because of how far away you are at the time.
Well for me, the clouds were the object, and that never happened. It just kept decreasing at the same speed... Now that is fast.
