  • I slid down one of those rapids on my ass one time. Oceana. It was in low water though haha. Nothing like that.

  • half front 1:30

  • hmmmm i can do that too i just dont want to :)

  • 1:30 soo funny

  • So, white water canoes are basically open kayaks?? haha

  • @turtleguy923 Two entirely different approaches to whitewater. Canoes and kayaks are very different. But a canoe can do everything a kayak can, and can hold beer

  • tearing up hell hole, u rock

  • holy crap, dude...

  • this is a kick ass video.....more please!

  • is that a Whitesell Pyranha?

  • Very cool tumble at 1:32 - thanks for the post!

  • Dooley is the Best, along with Eli, Psycho, Nolan,Wayner, Dan House, etc....i think Dooley just takes it tothe next level...also a hell of a nice guy.....

  • Jesus... ya guys are nuts. Great skills and brilliant video shots. Just go ahed...!!!

  • Guy in yellow canoe has skills!

  • If you enjoy remote canoe-trip camping you may want to take a look at Temagami Ontario.

  • 1:36 DAMN YOU HELL'S HOLE!!!...at least I'm prettty sure that's the ocoee

  • am i crazy, or is 3:20 REALLY dangerous, even for such an awesome paddler?

  • @unclejohnthezef ur either crazy or conservative.

  • I just recently got into Canoeing but i don't think the size balls you gotta have to do this would fit in my canoe. awesome vid.

  • whats the odds of getting some footage of Dooley's version of paddling a BlackFly? :)

    Matt

  • @TheSalvagedSkeeter Hey, I'm planning to shoot some footage of me surfing in blackfly at the NOC Wave next week. I will try to post some footage.

  • awesome, i live in Indiana where our rivers are flat, slow and muddy. Green with envy.

  • What kind of boat would you suggest for someone trying to get into this? Spanish fly-type OC1 or Esquif Nitro-type?

  • @Alexdieded It depends on how much you weigh and what type of rivers you are wanting to paddle. The website cboats.net has lots of great info.

Also, there is a new boat coming out this month called the Esquif L'Edge that may be the best boat for getting into the sport. I'm getting one this week. I will try to post some video

  • whoever you are you are awesome, to run all those in a canoe must hard! Great paddling and great video!

  • cool footage, awful cover

  • Oh yea, sorry I meant the front flip, not rolling

  • @CorreySchaad If you take the 'skid plates' off a traditional whitewater canoe, the airbags act as a scoop when you lean forward. It's an "ender"

  • How did you do that flip @ 1:30? custom canoe?

  • @CorreySchaad With the correct outfitting, you can roll up a whitewater canoe. Takes a great deal of skill, and even more mental skill; as you have to keep focused, while being upside down in a canoe, in rapids, as rocks fly past your head

  • Blows my mind. I did a lot of canoeing in the 70s and 80s -- what people are doing these days is just incredible. Half of this stuff was considered "unrunnable" in my day, and he's playing in it!

Equipment is much better, shorter boats, better designed for whitewater, but takes nothing away from this guy's skill level. Goodness gracious! Wish I hadn't torn up both my shoulders, this makes me want to paddle!

  • nasty

  • If you love canoeing, go to camp stephens best experience of your life!

  • where is camp stephens at? Iam from NC

  • i'm doin my grade three in college, dis jus makes it seem we're conoein in a pond... dese lads are amazin

  • This guy is crazy!!

  • Absolutly class.

If I could give this 6 stars I would.

    Serious respect for open boaters.

Started off in open boats 6 years ago and moved onto kayaks......this makes me want to go back.

  • Is that Pillow Rock at 2:30? What was the outcome? Did you go left or right of the rock?

  • Yes, that's pillow. I went left.

  • i went canoeing in the bronx

it was scary this was even more extreme

  • terrible music

  • What would be the best way to learn whitewater canoeing? I am very comfortable with solo and tandem lake canoeing, including wilderness tripping, but I've never had the opportunity to try whitewater; It looks like a blast! My local paddling organization (Paddle Manitoba) doesn't have any courses on whitewater. I've read some of Bill Mason's material, will that be enough to get me started if I start on small rivers and slowly progress? Maybe you pros can help me out. Thanks!

    -Benjamin

  • Start on some really easy rivers Class I or Class II. I would recommend the book thrill of the paddle by Paul Mason. I would also suggest watching the DVD solo playboating by Kent Ford. The book and the video should be enough to get you started learning the basics of eddy turns, peel outs, and ferrying. Good luck! It is a really fun sport.

  • Thanks a bunch! I'll check that out. I also just found all of Bill Mason's videos online at the National Film Board of Canada's website, and watched the whitewater stuff. Take care

  • hey! I love canoeing flat/moving water and am from Manitoba im pretty familiar with paddle manitoba. for whitewater, I would recommend the Manigotagan river, great starter river. But bring somebody who's experienced. If you want guided trips i would recommend Red River Outfitters or Manitoba Pioneer Camp (MPC). I work at the camp every summer. We're a wilderness canoe tripping camp including whitewater.

    good luck!

    - Troy

btw Bill Mason used to work at MPC

  • If your from Manitoba go to camp stephens!!!

  • Yah, camp stephens is ok. but personally i prefer Manitoba Pioneer Camp. I like their site better, also they seem to have better outripping equipment. Stephens and MPC often visit eachother on canoe trips. they're like 2 or 3 days paddle away from each other!

  • Hello! Do you know where is the ideal place for canoe biginner? I live in Raleigh NC thanks

  • Is the guy strapped in the little yellow canoe (Spanish Fly?) at 0.40 ish? I have just bought one and was wondering how to fit straps... if needed!

  • That's me in all this footage and no I don't use straps in my spanish fly. I use the bulkhead outfitting. I like the bulkhead because you can jump in and out of the boat quickly and you can customize the knee holes to fit tightly in the boat.

  • Wow! You rock! I was out on the Swale (rocky class 3 in the UK) in my Spanish Fly and it scared the pants off me! It was still good though. Seeing all the stuff you do made me brave enough to run a small fall... eeek! Thanks! LizzieX

  • Super cool!

  • What class rapids are these?

  • Mostly Class IV. Some Class V's and Class III's also.

  • Thanks for proving that open boats can go anywhere kayaks and rafts can...thanks for upholding the long-standing tradition of canoeing in a world gone kayak crazy! Keep on keepin' on.

  • Haha - Amen....also love live the mighty Mad River ME!

    -Tom

  • I still have part of an ME in the back yard, the rest of it is in Tenn. downriver from where I T boned that F...ing Rock !!!

  • I have never heard this classic song butchered as I have here.

  • @HeronREX

The Eagles suck. Nothing can ruin their songs. The Dude agrees.

  • Awesome video. Makes me wish I was a lot younger! Nice boats now to. I wrecked a lot of them in the day but these ones today are made of such strong stuff! I still canoe everyday but nothing more than class 3 anymore. Good job on the posting!

  • Thanks. We still wreck plenty of the new canoes too! lol

  • haha crazy surfing at 0:53

  • Started out in an open boat........ended up in a kayak.......and now am goin back to open boat again........

    Love the roll @ 1:35

    Class video.

  • At 1:06: What an absolutely fantastic line slabbing the river left side... nice! It's great to see one of us open boaters posting good stuff here...

  • You are my new hero.

  • Very cool... Loved it !!

  • What canoe is that?

  • There are different Esquif boats in the video but I'm mainly paddling the prelude, spanish fly and spark.
