I had a TLS - the 1997 model with the full horsepower like the TLR, only sexier. Bitch ran a red light and killed it. Damn near killed me. Replaced it with an SV1000S. Doesn't make me feel 17 like the TL did, but after 5 years of occasional riding, the SV has really grown on me. I like a lot of bikes, but I don't think there's a single bike out there I could love more than my SV1000S. I'm still afraid, but sometimes I just ride a couple miles to the grocery store, just to hear my baby growl.
@varscht How much is a new SV1000 these days ? It's been in the back of my mind to do some research on those should i smash this one up pretty badly. I have an FZ1 that i ride weekly.
This bike burned the inside of my leg would run out of gas after 100 miles of riding and was a bitch in the city but damn it was fast and it was a wheelie monster not to mention the most comfortable bike i have ever owned.. I miss this bike.
@bulldog01209 I wish Suzuki would make another t-twin like this. Till then, we are stuck with the V-strom's cuz not everyone wants to afford a Ducati :) I get about 46 MPG with this bike.
@jacebigelow SV can have full fairing aswell ;) Tho the naked version is more popular. It has less horsepower but the SV engine is much more reliable than the TL engine :D I'd trade off 30 horsepower to gain that reliability.
Besides SV1000S with full yoshi and PC3 kicks ass too ;)
@KyleScottStrength the SV1000 is more of a street version the original TL was made for racing and internally the engine is totally different i have rebuilt both motors a few times cams are driven differently, the engine rotates the other direction and the primary drive is different they are both nice bikes but i prefer the TL
Could be awesome if the "Tiller" made a 2010 comeback.. Suzuki should make a new V-Twin superbike. I got the SV1000s, but thats a sportsbike and not a superbike ;-)
@MrSonne86 Great comment and I agree 100%. The RC51 is gone. And not everyone can afford a Ducati. Search Wikipedia for TL1000S and TL1000R and it will explain why they these widow-makers are discontinued. But yes, they should do something. The TL has a cult-like following it seems...
@jacebigelow Totally agree! I saw the review on wiki and I gotta say they are minor faults who should be easy to fix with 2010-technology. Its like the japs got to mainstream. Race bikes are 600, 750 and 1000 R4's.. And like you said. Not everyone can afford a Ducati. Especially when you live in Denmark like I do where they tax the shit out of us (Ducati 1098 s 100.000 USD/500.000DKR) to give a good example. Dont get me wrong! I love my SV but it dont got that PUNCH of torque like my old TL1000
@jacebigelow it was a family guy reference.peter said something about how he hasn't seen he's penis in weeks.and something happens that i cant remember and he's like ohhh,i found my penis.the bike sounds good and it excited me is what im trying to get at.
No mods, it's just a full race Yoshi - that's how they ended up. By the way, the cans are swapped left for right, so that they look more stealth i.e. do not have the Yoshimura logo pointing outward.
Yes, there is a lot of room up in there. The hump is for aerodynamics - helps the high speed air "blend" back together smoothly as the bike cuts thru i. This reduces eddy currents and drag. I don't even have the passenger seat. And the passenger footpegs are removed. :)
They stopped the TL series due to being uncompetative timings in World Superbike, the GSXR 750 that it was to replace was still quicker round a track than the TLR, so it was discontinued, but still sold on a production model to recoup some of the development costs
i can't wait till summer also. soon i will be getting out my SV1000S and cleaning the dust off it. i'm wanting to lower it soon, from stock to 3" lower. SV1000's set up a little high for my taste. i want yoshimura RS 3 cans also. your TL1000 looks good. wish i had friends with bikes like that to roll with me this summer. lol
why wait till summer... hmm lets see, because i live in north america in the state of Ohio and during the winter it can get -0 with wind chills -10 and riding a bike magnifys the cold even more. instead of weighing my self down with a bunch of clothes and jackets i do the smart thing and take a car like every 1 else here in the winter...
Ducatis are not fast really, A good SV650 Rider can trounce any Duke 750, Ducati are just over priced, unreliable, lack luster and slow :P But they do look pretty fucking good I must admit. I'd have the TLR or SP1 Anyday of the week ;)
Yeah man, Tl are wicked bikes; Got a TL-S, which is a shit when is stock; Now, whith hyperpro springs and full pow, arrow exhausts and more... Great!!!
Man i want this bike so bad. Ive always like this bike above else wents i get it im gonna paint it all a jet black color. How many mpg does it get if anyone knows
Thanks for your comments :) It *IS* a piece of rolling art. I get 46 MPG on my TL1000R and 44 MPG on my FZ-1. I run 93 octane in the TL and 87 octane in the FZ-1.
This bike has so much soul!! I think it´s the most beautiful japanese superbike ever made! Some people say it´s ugly due to it´s swelling, aerodynamic features, I think it looks brutal, unique! I Will hopefully get this bike instead of my XT600 in a couple of months :)
it is to me anyway, not that regular inline-4 1000cc they use today :) Besides: wasn´t this bike ment to race in Superbike when they designed it? Think I´ve read it somewhere...
I got a Ducati 750 SS -97 btw, thought I should mention that as I read my comment written over a year ago :P
@nr1pimme Sorry man, I stand corrected;) I Googled the TL1000R, and realize that it is actually considered a superbike. Anyway, I currently ride a k7 GSX-R1000, but I've owned a k4 GSX-R750 and a k4 Hayabusa. I guess I just kind of have a prejudice against V-Twins, and never really thought of them as being equal (from a performance perspective only;) to an inline four. My riding buddies that ride SV1000's can't usually keep up with inline four liter bikes. Anyway, that's just my $0.02.
that´s cool man, I see what you mean. Btw, the SV1000s is a miserable replacement for the TL-series, it´s more of a sport/touring with less bhp... Sad thing they stopped making these bikes allthough i guess I´m stuck with the italians now xD
Thank you ! My friend Jesse painted it, excellent job. The blue is Ford blue, and the silver is Chrystler silver. He mixed in a TON of metalflake and it has a nice pearl-coat shine with clear-coat. I try to ride it when it's nice out, it sure turns a lot of heads. People can't figure out what it IS because there are no stickers or words on it. Mystery Bike !

@KyleScottStrength No possible comparison!
The SV1000 got only the same base : The 1000cm3 L-motor...
The behaviour on road, brakes, accel... are very different, the SV1000 has no "soul" for me... It's my personnal opinion
