  • I love this game...

  • Number 1 IMO

  • Words cannot describe this masterpiece of a game...it in my opinion is the greatest RPG ever, some games come close but to me no game had the character development, the awesome battle system, the graphics(for that time), and most of all, the epic storyline...I hated the part where I had to end this game...I don't think I have ever been hooked on a game that much before

  • @AVET87 Technically, the game never ends......That's the way i see it though.

  • This games entire soundtrack is far beyond amazing. I listen to it all the time on my ipod @ work. Ya take these tunes straight to the head, no filter. Almost intoxicating

  • Who's the soulless bastard that disliked this song..? >:X

  • @thapL4y Probably Lavos.

  • I thought when this played at Cyrus's grave in the northern castle ruins, when Frog has flashbacks of days long past. That fit. As well as Crono's revival on Death Peak.

  • Saddest part of Chrono Trigger was when this song played while showing the flashback of Cyrus dying at the hand of Magus, and Glenn helplessly being transformed into Frog.

  • How can you not have an emotional reaction when Crono is killed by Lavos? His very soul is ripped from his body! That soul becomes the Chrono Trigger, which is combined with the Crono Doll, but will he ever really be the same as he once was?

  • With FF6, they are the only RPGs where I NEVER(but really NEVER) felt bored.

Once I started those game, I only stopped for eat and sleep.

I highly love a lots of other RPGs, like FF5-7-9-12, Xenogears, Chrono Cross, Star Ocean 1-2, Romancing Saga 3, DQ 5-6-8, Xenoblade.. But even if it was a short time, there was a time I felt bored, or tired of playing.

  • @dbkai75 I agree. FF6 and Chrono Trigger the best SNES had to offer.

  • Chrono Trigger the best.

  • YOU HAD ME CRY !!! THis isn't funny but the feeling is so great to hear this years after playing the only game i give 10/10 in my whole life !!!

  • before Chrono Trigger i had never found a game which could make me feel so emotional, Chrono Trigger Best RPG!!

  • @BephirArsland Fuck that best rpg my ass

    BEST GAME PERIOD!!!

  • @holypie987

RIGHT!!! BEST GAME PERIOD EVER!!!!!!!! FUCK YEAH!!!!!

  • @BephirArsland VIRTUAL BRO FIVE!!!!!!!!!!

  • @holypie987

    OH YEAH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @holypie987 The Secret Of Mana fans might have something to say about that ;)

  • @mjkittredge F Them I didnt even like it that much

  • This songs reminds me of the monster praying at the Magus statue, the first time I saw that scee, I found it pretty dark but touchy at the same way... praising their "hero".

Chrono Trigger even by today's standards, have one of the best OST fro all time, lot of styles in one OST, and high quality music.

  • Remember guys, if it is our fate to die, we must simply laugh....

  • I heard this song many times but it didn't hit me until one play-through where I found the hidden room in the Cathedral where everyone is praying to the statue of Magus and this song is playing, for some reason THEN it hit me like a ton of bricks.

  • Such an awesome picture.

  • Chrono Trigger...it was a perfect game...enough said

  • this is probably the saddest song I've ever heard in a game before! this game is truly a masterpiece of showing a lot of compelling storytelling, great rpg gameplay, and great characters that actually makes you care about them. man! I love that game!

  • Play a sad one, joe!

  • @hardr0ck Shit! Damnit! Too sad Joe, give me something with more hope next time!

  • @hardr0ck That wasn't sad at all joe... that was relaxing.

  • i think this should be #1 still

    NOTHING BEATS CHRONO TRIGGER

  • @RoflMcaww Nothing beats Chrono Trigger... expect... Final Fantasy VI. :) Anyway, both games are from Square and it's still a win. :)

  • chrono trigger best game ever <3

  • This song hit me the most when I replayed and heard the nagas singing to a statue of Magus... hard to describe the feeling. it's on so many levels.

  • I miss you Square !

  • @LordXemus im pretty sure disney had some part in the game other than just the characters but they probably wouldnt sell for just a share of the game they wanted to be more involved

  • I think the theme for the Gurus (the one that plays when you finally open Balthasar's door and read his last journal entries) is also equally sad -- and perhaps more powerful.

  • I agree, it 's excellent and it has affected me on each playthrough since I was a kid. It may have had even a bigger impact if Chrono had not been a silent protagonist.. We're left to wonder and guess about his character

  • This Game...and its music...changed my future...

  • Once you get into the story the music sets a tone that will move you.

  • listen this song 32 times you will cry surely.

  • If I absolutely had to pick one song from Chrono Trigger to represent it as a sad song, I might have gone with Far Off Promise instead. But this is a great track too, don't get me wrong.

  • @SageVallant I'd have to go with "Sealed Door" being the saddest song (Balthasar's theme, which plays whenever you encounter things he made) personally. But the entire soundtrack is wonderful.

  • @AMcGrath82 The really impressive part is that its such a complete, consistent soundtrack... that was composed by two different composers.

  • i cried playing this game.

  • Loved it the first time I heard it, a long time ago.

  • The part here with Crono and Marle didn't really fill me with emotion, since Crono isn't really a character. He deosn't say anything or show any signs of emotion, so when Marle is so happy to see him again it's kind of hard to share her joy. But idunno, that's just me.

  • @GregzillaGT i didn't saw it like that, i actually thought the girl who loved me and the girl i loved too, missed me and cries after seeing me alive again, after a tragic death when i was trying to create a peaceful future for everyone

  • It should be the first on the list!! ;) :D

  • sad yes but weaving throughout, hope.

  • big ups to all of your playlists and videos. Moreover, your artwork and descriptions are ALWAYS perfect and immensely help to convey the overall theme and or setting/mood of the song. No other system could have such great countdowns like the SNES. keep it up

  • Frog's post traumatic stress from Magus.

  • YOU FORGOT TALES OF PHANTASIA themes

  • chrono cross is the perfect sequel to chrono trigger imo.squaresoft was an amazing staff.

  • chrono trigger was made by squaresoft.squaresoft made amazing games.square enix is a combo team of squaresoft and enix.which started making shitty games.

  • That should be a picture of Lucca and Crono since this is the song that plays after Lucca's version of Crono's resurrection.

  • This game, and the secret of Evermore are some of the best RPG's I've played, including modern ones.

  • his boots remind me of a woody doll lol

  • Chrono Trigger is the game that makes you wonder how Squenix came up with Kingdom Hearts. I mean if they could make this game why did they have to go and use Disney characters and shit? They have proved themselves to have imaginations beyond a mediocre movie-ad type storyline. I mean seriously!

  • @NekuThat1DeadKid

I sort of agree with you, I think kingdom hearts is a weak title and i haven't played any of the sequels. But there is no problem in experimenting with it and it was incredibly successful.

I cant wait to see what those developers do with FF Versus 13, im hoping it can recharge FF and Square back to the 90s

  • @coyote3434

I could never grasp the interface of Kingdom Hearts, It's always on Sony consoles and I only have Nintendo, the one they did have for DS made me dizzy when I used it, it was disappointing because I thought the graphics setup would be more like The World Ends With You. I think since it is a very popular game they should at least make a Wii version{or at least an Xbox}, because that's the only way I'd be able to play it, and many other people out there.

  • @NekuThat1DeadKid Thats cos square enix had nothing to do with chrono trigger.Plus chrono trigger was made by three great artists for the art ,music and story naming themselves the "Dream team".

Square soft was amazing ,but when some of the good staff left ,and square enix was formed it went downhill. You can see the obvious diffrences in squaresoft s quality and squareenix.

  • @Ryuuusa I liked TWEWY sure, it was short, but the storyline just pulled you in. I wish there were more stories like that.

  • @NekuThat1DeadKid It all depends on who makes the games really...and majorly on ppl's interests..i ve heard TWEWY s great but i donno lol the disney characters in KH never appealed me...

You cant just make great games like this every year...there are so many elements tat make a game great.

There have been so many games with amazing stories but lacked something and went downhill.

Good music, good character depth, graphics, sound, detail, story all these are wat made these games wat they became today

  • @Ryuuusa Actually, the music wasn't originally going to be done by Nobuo. The original artist was Yasunori Mitsuda and Nobuo just finished up. Of course, Yasunori went on to do the music for games Xenosaga so he's a pretty talented guy himself...

  • @NekuThat1DeadKid It is quite simple. Square has SUCKED ever since they merged with Enix. They can't come up with original ideas for shit nowadays.

  • @DarkCloud64 I'd imagine that Disney PAID Squenix to make KH.

  • @NekuThat1DeadKid have u even played kh? the disney charcters arent part of the real story

  • @NekuThat1DeadKid The problem is Squaresoft came up with Chrono Trigger. Square-Enix was the result of a merger, and thus the quality of their product went right down the shitter

  • @VengeanceZero Well, perhaps, some of it is just different you know? Like the newer pokemon games.

  • @shimeonmorpheus

Please to note, that was made 10 months ago. I don't care anymore.

  • @NekuThat1DeadKid Kingdom hearts is just awesome , it bring Western Charackters with Japanese Chars , the Story is heartbreaking ,sad and full of Emotions and Secrets , Chorno Trigger is marvelous .. but at least play kingodm hearts , and then tell me your opinion , Disney Chars are in the Background it's all about Sora

  • @PitifulHeartless

once again. check the date, it's almost been a year. I also don't have a playstation.

  • @NekuThat1DeadKid Kingdom Hearts is an awesome game, if yoy think is gay only for use Disney characters, i only can feel bad for you and your childrens.......

  • @zzxp1

I never called it gay. Please to read the post ja?

also, I'm not goign to answer any more of these comments starting now due to the sheer oldness of the original.

  • @NekuThat1DeadKid in that case dont say KH is bad, because is a totally old school game with new graphics.

the only words that can describe it are: Master Piece

  • @zzxp1 Have you even experienced the immnese sense of friendship and sadness, along with freedom, and Love? Have you? After all, how much better can KH be anyways, to me when I played, I felt nothing much for the characters in that game. But for Chrono Trigger, I felt everything that the characters went through. How much? Explain to me how much better KH is!

  • @KaiduxTheKnight i never have said KH was better, CT is the fucking king in RPG and i cant argue to that, im only saying that people think KH is stupid for using Disney characters, well okay there is some gay moments like the ariel world but for the rest i only have one word: BEAUTIFULL!!

i repeat im not saying is better, but since CT only KH and the mother series can give that magic sensation i cant explain if you have played the jack or tron world and still dont like i dont know what to say

  • @zzxp1 Well, most of my life, everyone judged what I liked... I have never really liked KH much... mostly the fact that people kept telling me what was good and what wasn't... and after hearing many things against what I liked... I decided to begin defending what I like...

  • @NekuThat1DeadKid also, you played the portatil version, that are shit.

if you like the world end with you, you surely would like the console versions of kingdom hearts, because they have the same feeling. well that is logical because both were made by the same company

  • Disney characters? So? What's wrong with Disney old classics? It was an interesting concept, an original venture--and it worked.

Now if they had gone and put Hannah Montana...

  • @NekuThat1DeadKid The majority of the people who made CT, FF6, Secret of Mana, etc left around the year 2000. Former president Tetsuo Mizuno started a company called AlphaDream. Hironobu Sakaguchi started Mistwalker. The composers all went freelance. Writer/director Yasumi Matsuno left when they fucked up his FF12 script. Writer Masato Kato left after CC. Most of the CT/XG team left with writers Tetsuya Takahashi and Soraya Saga to form Monolith. And so on. Square today is not the same artists.

  • @NekuThat1DeadKid As much as I liked the Disney sections of KH I must agree with you. The best parts in all Kingdom Hearts games were the ones that had mostly original characters without any cliche Disney plot to draw on, in other words the ones that required the developers to actually put some thought into them.

  • @NekuThat1DeadKid hey! i like kingdom hearts its creative and it isn't supposed to be an DBZ clone like chrono trigger it was something new its actually a fairly amazing game

  • @TwoFriendsPlayGames Not sure if troll...

But, how is CT a DBZ clone? The only thing they have in common is the artist. And yes, Toriyama is a badass artist. I would commission him to create characters for my games any day, if I were a developer. Kingdom Hearts isn't all that creative if you grew up playing Squaresoft RPGs. It just had Disney characters in it.

  • @magusunltd well the characters are similar and did i ever say chrono trigger is a pica shit DBZ cousin is more likely than clone its like i feell like DBZ and chrono trigger have a connection and not just the artist but the feel the action its allmost like they can have a special series called "Dragon Ball Z x Chrono trigger" IM OUTTA MY MIND thou

  • @NekuThat1DeadKid the anime like style on super nintendo, like in chrono, terranigma, Mystic quest (gameboy) or final fantasy 6 is just the best, and nothing is ever going to reach this

  • @NekuThat1DeadKid

Because Chrono Trigger was made when Square-Enix was only SquareSoft, and Enix as only Enix. It was when they merged that things started to fall downhill. New management, lack of good co-operation within the company resulted in a money-making powerhouse with no real soul left within the company. SquareSoft on the other hand, was the complete opposite during the SNES generations. Every game Squaresoft made in one way or another had amazing soul within it and it shows.

  • @LordNaito Dude Kingdom Hearts was made when they still were Squaresoft. Otherwise I agree with you. Merging started the downhill. And if you ask me, the first Kingdom Hearts was one of last good games they made.

  • why is it the sad songs make you miss games you played? and why can't newer games have this same power over someone? i guess...it's just how they are getting...lets make it look kick ass what about the songs fuck them......i miss play games that made you want to play them over and over even if you know what will happen

  • this song is very sad. but hope is seen 0:40-1:07.

  • I REMEMBER THIS SONG!!! But, i don't remember what scene. :[

  • @DarkNatasX

    [spoiler]!

as the image shows playing on the video the best example use of this song playing: it is when you bring Chrono back to life essentially by doing a mini quest (you don't have to do it) and if you have Marle you would get a special moment between them of everything going black except Marle, Chrono and the Tree of Life as if nothing else existed in the world but them.

  • Frog's theme is the polar opposite of this.

  • This is the best sad theme ever, in my opinion.

  • Is this as low as your countdown goes thus far? I strongly suggest credits from Link to The Past as the #1 saddest song

  • @shadaldire i agree with you there

  • my Favorite thing was after Crono dies, to switch to ayla, frog and Robo and just have them get kidnapped on the blackbird. I though it was funny in a weird way because they were kind of hangers on, none of them were from the present and they all had no real stake in any of this, and they just got kidnapped by a weirdo in the dark ages. They'd be thinking to themselves ".......WTF, come on I barely even know this

chrono or crono or Whateva the F#@$, and this Sh@&% happens...COME ON!!!"

  • I wasn't too fond of the game itself, but it's music was quite good, and I do like this piece.

  • come on, Interesting story Line, with all sorts of crazy twists (if you hadn't played it before), lovable, interesting and memorable characters (pity there was no sequal with the same, but the really fantastic ones they never do for some reason, like legend of the seven stars). Best of all you didn't have to play as the main character in the second half of the game.

  • @Konform2zoidberg I'm terribly sorry, but I just didn't have much fun with this game...

Except for the Middle Ages part. That was great.

Don't get me wrong, it's a pretty decent game, just disappointing after I heard it was supposedly the best RPG ever. I just don't think it can compare with other SNES RPGs like Secret of Mana or Final Fantasy IV.

  • I liked it a little better. FFVI is still my favorite game ever. Followed by FFVIII

  • @PaperMario15 I have always hated secret of mana for everything but the soundtrack, i think its just me though...

  • wow...

  • I really like the stuff going on at around :50

Anyway, you're right, I didn't really like it that much on my first playthrough either.

  • that is a really good choice for number 4

now we are getting to top 3

are you going to make another SNES Music list after you finish atmospheric and saddest one?
