i wrap a piece of black tape on the neck right by the nut, and that keeps the strings in place.
the boat cletes do have a function- they put the guitar in the right position when you play it sitting down. there's also a hook on the back of the headstock so you can hang it on the wall.
Cool, but are those sailboat tie hook things really necessary? Good job though. I'm inspired to make my own chopped down stick since all the travel guitars I see are junk. Wondering if it can be made to fold down or collapse into itself.
Think you could flip a roller on the strings and fold it in half it could stay together without the strings getting everywhere.
i agree with the ebay thing, i could do so much with a single string bass lol (which is how i found your vids, cuz i came up with the idea of a 1 string bass in my head as well and searched youtube)
This makes me wanna rip apart my silvertone and do something awesome like this. You should consider doing these and throwing them on eBay.Seriously, I'd buy your Spaceman fretless 6-string.
very cool, I've had the idea of customizing the shit out of a cheap guitar even though I know nothing about internal electronics, but your vids inspire me to try!
it only cost like $60 in used parts. it's so basic it doesn't need a schematic. it's really a bunch of stuff bolted together. i couldn't sell it, but try making one for yourself, they're pretty easy. have fun!
badass dude your musical style is sikk and that guitar is gnarly

can you make copies of your guitar?

This may be a stupid question, but what do you do about the strings when you take the neck off? Do you have to take the strings off too?

That aluminum sure makes for a lot more sustain than you would suspect from so little material!

this guitar is sick. It sounds better than a steinberger. How much would you take for making/selling another one of these?
