  • Which stage/ level is this?

  • agriculture, add agriculture, thats what you can do with all that space. A Wheat field with a Windmill in the back drop

  • round doors for the rabbit hause :D

  • You should do a multiplayer or something! With Team Deathmatch! I would be AWESOME!

  • this is rare! i finally stumbled onto something very cool, instead of something perverted or indefinable :D

  • I haven't seen any bows yet. Are there not going to be any?

  • This is all great, I've been watching many of these videos, but there's a little problem.

My buddy has preordered this and we're having some FPS issues in some maps, while others run flawlessly.. I don't get it.

  • @joaovictor1994 it's mostly the amount of objects on the screen or the level has grass and trees, that eats up a lot of computer resources

  • @rocker398 You'd think so, but no, that happens in a desert level where there's nothing but sand, one rabbit and his house. Oddly enough, the reason for the FPS drops isn't the house. It only happens when you engage in fisticuffs with the rabbit, and comes back to normal shortly after his untimely demise.

  • @joaovictor1994 Oh! I know what you are talking about now. I can't really explain it, but I have the same problem. In previous alpha's, I never had slowdown, just a month or two ago, it changed that sometimes when any character started a new action, or became a ragdoll it lags for the length of the animation. Even if that isn't exactly your problem, we are still kinda in the same boat haha.

  • @rocker398 Yeah I that's it. Oh well, hopefully it'll be fixed soon.

  • I think the game world should definitely be open world, but with certain restrictions in the beginning much like the metroid or gta games do. For example: Maybe certain places could be out of reach until the player is strong enough to jump the height or distance of the obstacle. Just neat things like that would make it even more interesting to me.

  • Is this Lugaru 2?

  • @furryegglet Yep basicly

  • @furryegglet sort of

  • Man this is the kind of game I wud be willing to support! Great Job guys!

  • this is a game engine made by you?

  • @LoveMashine69 Yeah whoever is the programmer for Wolfire did the entire engine.

  • I wabt to buy it pls try to sell it on steam

  • Bow and Arrow should be awesome in this game lol

  • I think the levels are waaaaay too big.. You have to spend minutes just running to find a enemy. It is definelly better if it turns open world..

  • Is this music available anywhere? I find it quite soothing and that it captures the feel of the game quite well

  • @lolwut6045 dude. STFU. Four people are making this and this easily has to be one of the coolest Indie games i have ever seen. Who gives a fuck if you can only play as rabbits. Its only the Alpha and they have a new build every god damn week. Chances are there are going to be more characters. CUNT.

  • @ARBITEROFTHECOVENANT cry moar baby

  • @lolwut6045 0/10

  • @ARBITEROFTHECOVENANT by the way, there will be 5 DIFFERENT CHARACTERS!!!

  • @lolwut6045 Shut your filthy ingrateful whore mouth, and go pre-order this shit faggot

  • @lolwut6045 There will be rabbits, cats, dogs, wolves and rats.

  • useless

  • the running looks very unnatural, you should make them lean when they run.

  • This game is unbelievable.

  • is this a mmo?

  • When is this game out?

  • @TrienProductions; It'll be out when it's out.

  • @TrienProductions 1-2 more years.

  • is it going to be online??

  • @gasol1997; No, it is single-player. No leveling up, nothing over done. Just an awesome game.

  • I just found out about the game, and watched some vids, but i still dont get what it is about...

  • I think the walking animation is a little weird, and the enemy's look too easy to kill, but I love everything about this game already. This would be one of the only games I don't pirate, but rather, buy. =]

  • I can't make an annoying dislike comment due to that there are no dislikes!

  • Keep working on it guys! Looks really good. I just wish that i could find a way to play it now...

  • is this open world and how big is the world? anyone know, im thinking of buying this

  • @randrewm97 right now it's only in alpha so there are only some selected levels to choose from, not open world. They will probably add open world for the final version though.

  • fell like a SKYRIM

  • Rabbits live underground...

  • I really wish you make this Open world like skyrim. It would be amazing!

  • Rabbits typically live underground. The huts look cool, but underground tunnels/homes/passages would be awesome as well. May make for an interesting level even.

  • Open world in Overgrowth!! pls!

  • @Zanek007 it's not gonna happen (as awesome as it would be, it's impossible)

  • @Zanek007 You can make it, make several maps and then put level load hotspots on the borders to go to other levels

  • @Zanek007 Great Idea but I think its too much work for em xD Lets just hope Im wrong...

  • @Zanek007 Yes, please!!!

  • i want to buy this

  • Im extremely impressed with all the animations, but the world looks empty and bland.

  • @Erectionproblem wait so are these guys the makers of the game

  • @lamofify yes

  • I think a nice approach to the rabbits' housing would be to expand their homes with tunnels digged right under their huts. I don't know how well could Overgrowth be applied to such an environnement, but it would seem logical for rabbits to live underground (plus it would be quite cool to have secret tunnels, weapon stashes and such)

  • @ironniick Maybe something like CryTek's voxel-based terrain engine.

  • @ironniick Bloody brilliant idea!

  • clap for the next games king

  • Comment removed

  • WHY RABBITS

  • :D

  • Wow, that looks amazing.

  • I love the thief games.

  • Another great commentary! Please, add more commentary in the final build, similar to how Valve has dev commentary.

  • Fire would be a very nice addition inside the fireplace making huts look homely

  • If you preorder the game can you import modelfiles into it to make your own stuff?

  • Excellent level design theories! Concise battles work well in a great many games; surge of adrenaline, rest, surge. The rhythm and flow of each level in a game sets the expectations for the next level and greatly influences the overall "grade" of the experience for the player. Excellent progress, Overgrowth!

Overgrowth's combat is as exciting as Oni's was when it came out.

Oddworld: Stranger's Wrath indeed did a good job with the player character's running. Very much enjoyed it's uniqueness.

  • After having seen the Lugaru footage in the earlier video I keep getting the feeling that the camera is too close to the character in Overgrowth. It's not by much, and zooming out to be the same size as Lugaru would be excessive, but somewhere in between should be better.

  • whats the story gonna be like for this game

  • the community for this game is rlly relaxing and calm not like some communities

  • I haven't wanted to comment on art asset videos before, this level and the huts are just beautiful.

  • I really liked the doors.

  • I really liked the rabbit huts, an idea for furniture... Chairs could be hollowed stumps and tables tree barks. Since rabbits don't forge weapons, I suppose their building is a bit rudimentary, au naturel materials, maybe?

  • I think I don't want Mirrors Edge 2 anymore.

  • I find myself week after week watching these videos with my mouth slightly agape just captivated by the evolution of this game, then catching myself near the end and it's back to real life........... or more youtube.

  • Maybe make it harder to get them in a choke as it seems a little easy.

  • how about rabbit-holes, maybe kinda dungeon-style ?

  • @Sweemops I like the rabbit hole idea reminds me of Bugs Bunny and also tucker does look like a jackrabbit maybe you guys could make allusions to Bugs Bunny and Rodger Rabbit :)

  • I agree with mmankt! I think it would be very neat to be able to crouch or roll into a rabit-home rather than being able to walk up straight through the door.

  • 0 dislikes ^^

  • Could i dare n say tht Art Assets are becoming equally or even more interesting than alpha updates?? Or am i going 2 far...?

  • That scenery is exceedingly beautiful.

  • maybe charaters should wake up after a while when choked out

  • AWESOME !

  • guys i got this game and it's worth every penny.

  • Comment removed

  • Just the gameplay and lighting looks beautiful. keep up the good work wolfire!

  • this will be the fking best game of all time when it comes out......

  • Rabbits typically live in warrens underground, so why make huts? Just because they are anthropomorphic you ditch all the unique rabbit-themed possibilities? Seems like these guys are basically just ninjas wearing rabbit suits.

  • @neotoy Humans are apes, yet we live in houses that hold no resemblance to trees and use elevators and escalators to avoid having to, god forbid, climb.

I see nothing wrong with anthropomorphic rabbits being just as different from their animal kin as humans.

  • @neotoy I think the design of the low, rounded, thatched hut suggests a hole in a grassy knoll without being quite so obvious and literal.

  • so i have bin looking at these vids for like a year now and i stil dont understand wtf this is :D

  • How to explain Overgrowth to your friends: 3:15, "...the game is about rabbits..."

  • the art in this game looks excellent!

  • Yeah, it would be way more awesome if when the character reaches a certain speed it got on its hands a feet and run like an actual bunny.

  • is that witcher 2 music in the background?

  • @spoonslap No?

  • Can y'all make the game pre-order by card? I don't have pay-pal.

  • I have no problem with the running animations. If I had, I wouldn't have waited 100 videos to point it out.

  • Any progress on the cat models??

  • For some reason the framerate seemed lower than usual in this video. Maybe I'm crazy but just out of curiosity, is there any potential reason?

  • There's no way I can look at 2:56 and not think that looks like a hl2 headcrab

  • You say "ruins", I see blocks sticking from the ground. Shouldn't they be more "ruiny", or at least be composed in a ruin theme.

Also the huts. Real life rabbits live in burrows. You should consider making rabbit houses more similar to Hobbit dwellings, build underground.

  • Since everyones talking about running, take a look at the game 'strangers wrath' for original xbox and just recently hd on psn. Most people would know it since its oddworld, but after gaining enough speed on your feet, the character starts bounding on his hands and feet like a deer or something (or in overgrowths case a rabbit) and it does look really awesome.

  • @anguskahn22 I agree, that's the way to - the hero is a rabbit after all. And until now the only interesting parts of the level environment gameplay-wise are vertical elements to climb, so we need something to do while moving through "boring" plains...

    Example in Oddworld: /watch?v=qFNSqqj3Pf0&t=3m10s

  • @anguskahn22 actually, more like a dog or any kind of wildcats. however, I disagree, it wouldn't fit in this case because the rabbits and whatnot behave and move human-like. no point in making them move like rabbits.

  • @yourpersonalspammer The feature to be able to run on all fours has been a long time coming and it was a very useful feature in Lugaru.

  • @anguskahn22 Strangers wrath is an awesome unknown game. It is similar to this game in the aspect you were talking about, and I think Wolfire should add some of the things in Stranger's Wrath into Overgrowth. Did you know they are updating the graphics and re-releasing Stranger's Wrath for PS3, PC and Xbox?

  • @Chickenkeeper24 Yes, He said that in his comment.

  • @Chickenkeeper24

Yeah theyve already released it on ps3, i have it. It looks so amazing

  • @anguskahn22 That happened in Lugaru if I remember correctly. No point in not having it.

  • @anguskahn22 I second that statement. Glad to see people recognizing the awesome things about that game and not just the few "downsides".

  • The art is amazing, but I just love that music in the background! Haha

  • Another animal that would be good to study as a reference for the running movement would be kangaroos, they have similar skeletal and muscular structures to rabbits and also make much longer bounds as they start moving faster. It would also be nice to make running a bit stealthier with less step noises because of the longer bounds.

Interesting fact: Because of the long running stride kangaroos expend less energy covering a given distance going fast than walking.

  • @NEUHOUSER1 Kangaroos don't run

  • @NEUHOUSER1 Rabbits don't move anything like Kangaroos at all, at any speed.

  • @katawatenshu But the rabbits in the game are bipeds like kangaroos not quadrupeds like real life rabbits

  • @NEUHOUSER1 But do you think bunnies running around on 4 legs would make this game better? That would kind of take away the feel of the game. Realistic enough that you can feel you're really in the game but enough fantasy that it's not a terrible game. It's amazing how it is.

  • Should the rabbit houses not be more warren-esque?

  • There is a huge hole in the gaming market for a game like this but multiplayer, a fully adaptive hand to hand / weapon / freerunning multiplayer. This would be one of the biggest things to hit the game community if this were to go multi.

  • @Souls2009 Multiplayer online is planned, currently you can only play splitscreen multiplayer though.

  • @ElementAndrew99 You can play it now. Just go to the site and "preorder" it. You can then download and play it.

  • I have no idea what this is, but it looks absolutely beautiful.

  • @TheKingMitten how the fuck ppl do that

  • "furniture for the rabbits"-This has led me to thinking about bunnies in people furniture. How do I get this grin off my face?

  • This game is 4 years in development, why is there only one person working on it? when can we play it?

  • @ElementAndrew99 there are a few people working on it, it's an indie game also.. probably wont be done for a couple years or more yet.

I wouldnt be surprised if they have some guys working on the single or multiplayer in the background to speed it along for an earlier release... Wolffire is tricky that way

  • Get out of my comment

  • You actually mentioned Randy Smith and Thief! I though I was the only person in this sick reality of endless generic pewpew games for impatient 9 year olds, that actually knows Randy Smith and remembers this game with heartwarming nostalgia.

  • If u are choking an enemy, u should be able to press a button, and if there is a wall next to you, u can smash the rabbit into the wall or something, that would be pretty cool!!!

  • BEHOLD MY POWERS!

  • I think there should be a block and counter attack for the neck hold, because at the moment when you put them in a neck hold you can grab them from like 2 meters away.

The blocking animation should be them bringing their arms up to protect their neck so they can't be choked.

  • Open speech transcription and watch 3:23-3:30 :D

  • @download333 they resemble humans a lot more than horses lol

  • indeed, longer steps the faster you move

  • It would be nice for the game to have some sort of open world feature, where you can explore the homes of the characters and possibly some easter eggs.

  • Hello, I hope you see this comment

You could make a change in the effect of the blows and fall when they take punches, kicks and everything.

I loved the videos and I'm waiting for the debut of the game, even if it takes a long time but I have helped.

    Bye

  • I think this idea for level design is much better than just having small levels.

    Rabbit huts look awesome aswell!

  • Would be nice if the rabbits could run really fast on all 4, and when he slows down he steps up on his backfeet again :)

  • @Echlonum you did that with the trigger of a button in the previous game, personally I think that was the most fun part about the game...I hope they bring it back

  • @KeshnerfFilms Are you fucking retarded?

  • @DGtibbs Are you tucking refarted?

  • @KeshnerfFilms lol. refarted.

  • awesome :3

  • Will overgrowth be on console, if so i would really like to get it on my ps3

  • @MrRamendude I would think not. They have alot of development ahead and the PS3 is pretty hard to code for.

  • yo if there is a soundtrack for this game i think that The Humbling River by Puscifer would be a really powerful piece in this game.

  • thinking that they live in huts is ok, but they should be based on holes a little bit more. their home should be safe and use unique abilities of the race. the entrance should be really small so you have to crawl into it, they are humanoid animals not humans :)

  • @mmankt exactly.

  • @mmankt Maybe something like a Hobbit hole, or a dirt hut maybe.

  • @mmankt yes ^-^ but why should they want to live primative like thair non humanoid animal counterparts =D? atleast i wouldent want to if i were able to build better housing ^_^!

  • @Redxruki "Better" is relative. Perhaps a rabbit thinks that their style of housing is better than ours, who knows?

  • so, this means no alpha changelog video this week?

  • @Nyocurio It's only sunday, the Changelogs are posted on Monday mornings.

  • @DFWatches Yeah, I keep forgetting we in Europe are a bit ahead of you guys..

  • Can't wait.

  • I absolutely love the huts. You did a really good job at conquering the difficult task of imagining what a rabbit village would look like! Great Job!

  • To change the running style based on speed, it might be useful to study the way horses move. They have several distinct stepping patterns depending on their speed.

  • @download333 i bet in the future they will make the animations flow into running on all fours as speed increases, or maybe hoping if they have items in their hand perhaps. Kind in mind all these animations are just placeholders just to make sure the mechanics are sound.

  • @download333 This isn't really possible in a game with digital input (pressed or not pressed WASD on keyboard) unless you add a way to sprint and limit walking speed. A while back though, support for using game pads was added, which have analogue input. /watch?v=4xbrFzrePSU This update also added slower walking styles for when you do take advantage of not pushing the joystick all the way.
