It's only running on 4xAA batteries, about 6 volts. As long as you don't spend the rest of your life hooked up to the thing, it shouldn't be any health risk.

No health problem, but indicative of the fact that the instrument is not capable of adequate distance detection, as would be a better theremin with an electrical connection to true earth ground.

While maybe not SUPER affordable, professional theremins will set you back a LOT more than 140 dollars. It's fairly good quality for a fairly low price.

Interesting! I'm tempted to get one of these as they're one of the few theremins with an internal speaker (don't need an external amp). However, I'm not sure I like the sound of them compared to theremins I usually play.
