Conservatism in its broadest sense is a mode of political discourse in which a retention of basic, fundamental, and clearly outlined axioms are paramount. Of course, this is a somewhat subjective term in this sense, that is, conservatism will manifest in different ways in different cultures. In America, I like to think that conservatism refers to the retention of sanity in a public political discourse, without the interference of monolithic media/information outlets.
No matter what the particular issues are---abortion, guns, gay rights, free enterprise, land use---the conservative mode of political discourse will approach these issues in a way that reflects the essence of the US Constitution and act in a way to PRESERVE (or conserve) the natural environment and resources which the infrastructure of our nation is built upon.
It has nothing to do with particular STANCES in regards to those issues.

But in a strict CONSERVATIVE application of the Constitution, no political body ought to stand in the way of gay people getting married so long as it is not an affront to the rights of any others. Conservatism in its broadest sense is a mode of political discourse in which a retention of basic, fundamental, and clearly outlined axioms are paramount. Of course, this is a somewhat subjective term in this sense, that is, conservatism will manifest in different ways in different cultures. In America, I like to think that conservatism refers to the retention of sanity in a public political discourse, without the interference of monolithic media/information outlets.

No matter what the particular issues are---abortion, guns, gay rights, free enterprise, land use---the conservative mode of political discourse will approach these issues in a way that reflects the essence of the US Constitution and act in a way to PRESERVE (or conserve) the natural environment and resources which the infrastructure of our nation is built upon.
It has nothing to do with particular STANCES in regards to those issues.

For example: I am not gay. I don't plan to marry anybody whom is gay. But in a strict CONSERVATIVE application of the Constitution, no political body ought to stand in the way of gay people getting married so long as it is not an affront to the rights of any others. That is a conservative, no BS about it approach.
I also believe in sanity in spending. What is conservative about spending money on nation building (hmm sounds like socialism to me), and refusing to fund worthwhile hc reform?

That is not to say that the current bill is perfect. I am actually in favor of a single payer system... If it could be developed and run properly. Why should conservatives be FOR billions in excessive military spending, but against spending for health care? That doesn't make sense.
