  • This was in November of 1977 in the Budokan in Japan.

  • What was the date of this fight?

  • Chooify you do not know all my background or you would not make that comment. I fought under the rules and gave him beating, satoru did not fight under the rules.

  • @marccost1 My apologies but, Saturo would win if it was in his style which is wrestling wouldn't you agree? But this was in your style kickboxing and I try'd to do research on your past such as championships and kickboxing etc. but did not find anything relevant my apologies it was a good match in all due respect, I like how it seems you get mad in this fight.

  • @Chooify, if it was just straight wrestling with him 25 pounds heavier he would pronbably win. He does have some good and entertaining wrestling moves. I held the U. S. Super Welter wight and Middle weight kickboxing titles. I was never mad during the match but I was surprised with him grabbing me in a kickboxing match. I have nothing but respect for him taking a match in a field that at the time was not his expertise.

  • @marccost1 Yeah but you started to get more aggressive over that throw wouldn't you agree? Or did you just see his defense falling and got to the open areas? I can't really tell.

  • @Chooify I was trying to finish him and it was a bit frustrating with him doing moves I had not trained for. I could not get that perfect shot and he had a lot of heart and hung in there.

  • @Chooify

a mma move, hit with a right, then go for a takedown

  • Wow wrestling was not allowed that is why Costello won but if it was all fighting styles allowed Saturo would make him tap out with his lightweight body.

  • Danny I was told I was in one comic book with satoru sayama and that that he is in many.

  • Loved watching you take this guy out in Japan....Your knees and punches killed him. Your left hook took him down. I could see the shock on the faces of the Japanese audience. lOL Nice job! I loved beating people in their own country. I did that in Korea and fought anyone and everywhere over there and beat them on their own turf. Did you ever make the comic books over there?

  • Sayama could indeed take a beating. Nice job Mr. Costello, you showed well rounded use of technique. 'Tiger' really took a face full and kept on coming .... SMH.

  • @avoice77 Thanks for your kind words.

  • the japs dont look to happy you just wiped the floor up with their guy

  • @teamgreen3777 It is more than just a sport to them, it is their pride. Even when I knocked him down out of the ring they pushed him back in. Funny thing is, that was Satoru Sayama or "Tiger Mask" who is a legend in Japan and they still make comic books of.

  • you know, analysing this style of combat, it seems to be the developmental phase before the birth of the mma and the ufc

  • @fightermanizdebest Satoru Sayama is the originator of shootfighting or Ultimate fighting and he is a legend in Japan. (The have comic books about him) He knew how to grapple when i fought him, but his kickboxing was weak. (lucky for me)

  • Great Marc !!!

I got this Fight on DVD here in Germany.

    Bernie

  • Thank you, but i would not go that far as to say brilliant. Sayama is the originator of shootfighting and a legend in Japan but at the time i fought him he did not have all that much true kickboxing expereince.

  • @marccost1 id agree it wasnt a fight at all really ,sayama was that useless. He was never a good wrestler either nor fighter of any kind.Even if he had incredible wrestling ability, fighting with gloves under striking rules is suicidal,he has no chance.

  • These fights are brilliant!!!

  • There i am waving at the audience and having a good time. Actually he was a tough man but not in his field of expertise during this fight.

  • @marccost1 he doesnt have any area of expertise, hes never had a real fight of any kind except for tis asswhupping. He started shooto ,but was never any good himself, mostly all his matches are fake prowrestling.Have a look at the disgraceful beatings he gives his students when supposedly coaching them, its on youtube. The irony being he was always useless as a fighter, but was a hard chaw.

  • @billysue2 I did not know about him giving beatings to his students and if he did he got the ass whupping he deserved.
