CBS is apparently still using the 2004 version. Perhaps this theme is used only for postseason coverage? We won't know for sure until then.

@nextg I did notice this too- the old theme returned when I watched a telecast on Dec. 17, 2011.

Let's hope that they scrapped this version because they heard from the audience that it is a terrible rendition of their theme song.

I don't really care for the syncopation or slower pace in this year's theme. It sounds almost like a satirical funeral dirge. Give me the more upbeat music of years past any day.

Thanks very much for posting. This remix is a great variation of an venerable theme and, in my opinion, really captures the spirit of March Madness. I look forward to a cleaner version (I have scoured the Net for a cleaner version to no avail).

I like this version of the song, but the ending of the song doesn't have the harmony that the old version had. The old version played 7 C's at the end of the song in harmony with 6 F's and 1 E, at least that's what I think. The end of this version seems to have 7 B's and 7 E's. I hope some knows what I'm talking about.

This theme seems to suck all the excitement out of the commercial breaks... with the last theme, there was nothing more exciting than a team hitting a 3 late in the game and then a timeout, and the theme taking you to a break. Now it's too subdued.

I'm going to need time for this theme grow on me. I'm sure it will, it took time for the last one to grow on me, too. What CBS really needs to have Trevor Rabin do, though, is write them a new theme for their NFL coverage.

This is by far the best in-game cue they've had (i.e. going into breaks). The new open is simply epic, and I'm glad they finally ditched the synths for a full orchestration, which always sounds better in HDTV.

I do miss the tempo of the old theme (it fit the pace of basketball better), but considering the MAJOR ratings increases this year, they're never going back.

One question: who designed the March Madness logo for this year's tournament? Why use the logos of the four networks when CBS and Turner Sports have serviceable logos? I guess they're trying to emphasize the four networks thing, but c'mon, we all know what Ted Turner owns, and anyone who doesn't can look up his bio online. Crawford371, idk about the theme, but unless Turner starts doing regular season games, the CBS Sports blazers will undoubtedly return.

I think Trevor Rabin needs to recompose the theme again. This is a good, powerful foundation, but it lacks personality and variety of cues like the 1993-2004 theme (the original composition) had. It needs to use that theme's rhythm with this new, more powerful instrumentation. Anyone know how he can be reached so I can tell him?

this new theme is not that bad it is still the same theme just has a different tone to it, the old one is just alittle better no doubt but I like this one too and it sounds pretty dramatic
