@hasablad69 @hasablad69 I'm also guilty of being a moron American who pronounces it "Mawn-tree-ahl" lol. So I won't look like an idiot in the future (since I plan on visiting the beautiful city), is the actual pronunciation "Muhn-tray-ahl" ?

I certainly don't want to offend any natives by butchering their city's name, and I would really like to keep my teeth in my head! :) Thanks for the help.

If you say "Muhn-tree-ALL" (with a slight emphasis on the last syllable - not the first), you'll at least sound like a native, anglophone Canadian. Of course, in French one pronounces it "Mah-ray-AL" but an anglo actually using the French pronunciation in everyday English speech would sound as bizarre as how most Americans pronounce it. And for the authentic Montreal-smoked-meat sandwich, head to Schwartz's on St. Laurent and ask for the medium with a cherry coke on the side.

@hasablad69 Thanks for the tips! Anthony Bourdain also recommended Schwartz's smoked meat sandwich as a "must try before you die." That's the first thing I'll do when I get there.
