Ok this question is a load of horse dicks. Does it really matter if it's half full or half empty? Either way you have half of something. I'd be more conserned about the folloing questions:

What is in the cup?

Why is there only half?

Do I want the contents of said cup?

Actually, for the same quantity of molecules, liquid water takes less space than solid ice. That's why the glass water level should go down when ice melts instead of going up.

that's true , for ice within the water , but when it come to ice that floats over thelevel of the water , when it melts , I'm pretty sure that it raises the level. not that much , but I was exagerating a bit for the drama. thx for the comment.

merci pour le comentaire vous avez raison a propos du glaçon dans le verre ,mais quand un glaçon, qui flotte au dessus du niveau zéro, fond , le niveau monte. je n'ai fait qu'exagérer ce fait pour donner un ton dramatique .

You might want to check out the court case that followed, it showed Al Gore was exagerrating. There were about 7 plain inaccuracies in the film (found by the courts, anyway).
