How very cute!!!! We have a pet rat who is..believe it or not 4 years old!!!!  The "property laws" still apply! Our rats' diet consists mostly of a variety of brown rice, peas, carrots tomatoes, corn, lettuce, and old fashioned oats (all in moderation) he also loves grapes, watermelon, and apples. Oh yeah, and nuts. Nearly any kind of nuts. He's not much of a meat eater, but loves unseasoned hamburger now and then, as well as boiled eggs. The occaisional junk food never hurt anyone either.

@RDeathbringer I think they were telling you BS. My ratties have had sausages, steak, bacon, ham, you name it, over the years. None of them have ever went feral on me. I don't know any other rattie owner that has fed their ratties similar that has had them go feral on them either. There's a lot of BS in the world, don't believe it all.

be carefull with any probiotics as they can destroy any antibiotics that the vet may have prescribed bset to give and probiotic drinks a couple of hours after their antibiotics

Haha ! Good property laws, I have a fridge magnet with the same on it for my Chihuahua Jasper ! We had a really nice rat some time ago, called him Pugsy, I don't know if the life span of a rat is short, but they don't live long, It's sad to lose any pet, : =( Pugsy was great ! 5X5 !

@kant019 you dont need a supplement just a good quality rat food and fresh water everyday thats all and they will live happily, Fudge only had this as she wasnt eating or drinking and was very poorly, dont give it to them if they dont need it or you havent been advised :)

What you should do is but a large piece of slate in the cage, that way they run across it and it wears down their nails ;)

My ratties usually do fine drinking together, but they do push against each other hehe. One time they both pushed on the other's hand and for a moment it looked like they were holding hands. So cute!

I had a rat girl who WAS fat - not large, but fat. At 530 grams she topped the weight, but she had a fat personality too and she was the best rat I've ever had, and frankly one of the best five pets I've ever had out of over 40.

Plus I'm fat too so we matched =p

I have 5 kids and 10 rats ;) I never understood people with rat pets and well so far my daughter has collected 10 ratties from the snake pit. It is her goal to get people to stop feeding rats to snakes. I love her and rats to death. My son is often hospitalized and the rats are very near and dear to us as they are always there for her. We dont know why she does it, done it since she was a few weeks old. sometimes she will drink 'normally' then realise and quickly change lol.

I always had girls until i rescued some boys, there quite different.

just had my 3 youngest girls out on the floor, they were going mad, very energetic :)

I would only recommend getting boys just so that you know the difference between them yourself.

I dont have a preference with mine. They all have their own personalities :)

Males can be more docile but one of my boys is more active than some of my girls, so i think it all depends really.

I have been told that boys can live longer.

They are quite different, they may not climb as much, they can be alot bigger and more docile. But you see alot of videos of boys on youtube and they play just as much :)

I would recommend boys just so that you know the difference, you can choose which you prefer then :)
