Thanks for the post! The old Motorweek episodes are really fun to watch--especially when you compare how much cars have changed since back then. It's funny that John mentions "radial tires" and lap belts only in the rear seats.
i got the ER 86 and im getting 64 mpg and 0-60 in 6.9 secs its all about the tweaking guys trust me also the 12 inch rims to 13 inch rims is alot better of both worlds of mpg and faster on the line.
Love the lack of rear space mentioned...On that note: Has anyone sat in a new Mini? It makes the rear seat of the old turbo Sprint seem like a luxury cavern for two people comparably. My 87 Honda Civic hatch was a lot less roomy than my 87 Sprint Turbo as well. I think this car is pretty roomy, actually.
That 9.5 seconds 'feels" like 5.2. 1670 LBS and a blown engine creates rocket like seat of the pants feel that numbers just cannot describe. However, I have clocked my standard Sprint Turbo at 7.9 seconds flat.
the Turbo in the Chevrolet Sprint is freakin out of control crazy quick, losing 5 mpg is worth the insane kick of the boost plus the fuel injection system is way more reliable than the carb in the ER. Should get more miles out of a well maintained turbo model.
The Turbo is fun, and all. But I'll take the Sprint ER (or '88 Sprint Metro model) any day. 37 city/ 43 hwy? ER and Metro got 54 city/58 hwy ratings. I wouldn't mind having the wheel covers off the turbo, though.
John looked like a kid! lol.

This takes me back to my high school years. Truly nostalgic, an 87 Turbo Sprint was my first car.

Oh man a sprint turbo would be awesome to have. It'd be the perfect little thing to gut & lighten and race around in :D
