  • You are a lucky guy :)

  • why were you waving at 7.00? left and right hand side? haha

  • @LHB2311 Because if you look closely you can see that that section of the circuit was under a yellow caution flag & the marshals waving the flags like acknowledgement that you have seen them otherwise theres a higher risk of them reporting you on an incident form for failing to obey the flags!

  • @JimboD1965 oh right i see thats cool :)

  • the caterham was like, what the fuck you want @ 0:35

  • Lets see, a 50+ year old chassis and suspension design, NO aerodynamics, ROAD registered and a girl driving that Seven to boot. And you almost lost? DUH!

  • @paullubliner Where did the girl bit come from? no girl on there. 50 year old layout maybe but not design I dont think, probably the only interchangeable bit being the driver. Anyway, you obviously love your Caterhams so go find a vid where one wins so you can beat one out over it!

  • @JimboD1965 I heard "SHE" referring to the other driver. EXCUSE ME. I have owned and raced two Caterhams. I'd like to race against the clock AGAINST you in your own car. Then you can do whatever it is YOU do to cope because you would no doubt lose.

  • @paullubliner The other driver was a bloke called Julian! not a girl . EXCUSE YOU why, cos you put all the antagonistic comments you could into your first post? No way! As for you having owned Caterhams before then great, they are fun & good at what they do & can be very quick, there is no denying it. But yeah, you get all the" Billy Big Bollocks" come on here talking about how quick they are but in reality thats it, just talk. As for COPING with loosing to a Caterham, no, never done it!

  • @JimboD1965: Sorry, the design is 50 years old. The Series I Super Seven with Coventry Climax engine had the De Dion rear set-up from the Lotus 11. Frontal geometry change is relatively minor. I had Chief Engineer Jez Coates modify the lower front wishbone arrangement on my second chassis (an '86) and this design then became standard. As to me antagonizing you, beware, that is an old racing trick to "Psych-Out" one's opponents prior to the race. You did fall for this little bit of chicanery!

  • thats my dads old caterham, he bought it off julian sage back in early 2000> brilliant little car, very fond memories

  • @andrewotter1212 Cool! But dont you mean 2009 or so cos this vid was made in 2008 while Julian still owned it?

  • @JimboD1965 oh well dad did buy one off julian an r500 evolution, must be a different one wasnt to sure when the video was made, but great video!!!

  • nice video and really nice driving! ;)

  • Haha! 1:08. Driver's like "I don't care that I'm going 120 mph and just coming out of a turn. . . fuck that guy!

  • Awesome race!!.....The guy in the caterham was a total dick, but the whole thing was amazing.... nice drive for both actually

  • I hope you punched the living crap out of that lunatic in the caterham!

  • my orange hero! I do love r500,but... respect man!!!

  • sr4 faster then sr3?

  • @EVERLIVERPOOL Probably, due to lighter weight , but there are so many other variables involved.

  • FANTASTIC video, damn this guy is pushing hard.

  • @racefactory900 Thanks ! check out my other onboard videos

  • is that r500?or roadsport?

  • @EVERLIVERPOOL Yeah its a R500

  • u use a busa engine untuned?

  • @EVERLIVERPOOL yeah its a 1300 Hyabusa thats supposed to put out about 200 - 205bhp( different exhaust manifold & system and a few minor internal tweaks I think). They also do a 1500 version thats about 250bhp which has different cams & such.

  • @JimboD1965 whats the different with the sr3 and sr4?

  • @EVERLIVERPOOL SR 4 is smaller & lighter although it is still a two seater.

  • @JimboD1965 can we change the gearbox to a proper manual?thanks

  • That was an awesome pass on the outside.

  • Was Michael Schumacher driving the Caterham? Lol still, kudos for thinking he could hold off a Radical...

  • thsi is why all chateram make me feel nto to get one fucki nasshole move

  • did anybody else go " fuckin yess! cmon!" when he got past the caterham?

  • @rong9tagger

    LMAO

  • @rong9tagger Actually, yes i did lol! Loved the fist in the air celebratory moment after too

  • Awesome racing, how's the weather Jim? lol catch you next time-Baja-Bosh!

  • Fantastic video. The Caterham was just a little bullish, but not exactly dangerous. I'm sure the first lap was a mistake by him. A warning would be a little harsh, just a quiet word IMO.

  • @gweflj Unfortunately not so much a mistake by the Caterham but his usual driving style!

  • @JimboD1965 Really! Did he get away with it?

  • that guy in the white caterham is a jerk

  • @christosswc

Im not really that interested in YOUR view of all this but suffice to say its not because you can or cant afford a radical! What did you throw that in for?Nor is it your Humble cart experience its because the race results were right & the clerk of the course had several complaints about the Caterhams contact driving style & was in agreement that it was not appropriate for this sort of racing. It may be for carts but I would not like to comment because I dont know much about them!

  • Doesn't the interviewer say "It seemed to take you an age to get bast Julien Shay (sp?) - SHE was defending quite vigorously"? Maybe I just have bad ears... :-/

  • @elldee50 Julian Sage is the GUYS name :-)

  • @JimboD1965

and *now* I see his numberplate! Both excellent drivers — and a brilliant video.

    Thanks :-)

  • @JimboD1965

*Now* I see his number plate. Both excellent drivers and a brilliant video! Thanks.

  • have to agree with some of the comments on here. the caterham guy drove very well. he was in the lead and wanted to defend it and he did very well considering he probably damaged his steering on that tap in the first bend which wasnt his fault as the radical turned in on him by the way. Overall a good race well fought and the best driver won.

  • even though the caterham's defensive moves were slightly insane that battle was one of the best ive ever seen, neck and neck on every ben! wish F1 was this good!

  • Nice pass on the catheter (spelled it wrong on purpose) I was very impressed how you were able take the long way around but keep your speed and grip up to carry out the straight line speed to finish him off. Look frustrating as it looked like he had the advantage on the turn in an acceleration. But way to go to put the hurt down on him with your extra grip on the long bend with your areo package.

  • Great driving. Really felt your frustration through the earlier laps.

  • Sweet driving, congrats!!

  • i missed the tap though in the beginning. that was poor from the caterham driver.

  • i didnt find anything bad with the caterham driver. he drove very well. if the radical driver thinks he can get pass easy he misses the point of racing.

  • Nice!!!!

  • I drove the radical for 2 years before I became a pro. And it's very good. IT misses a little grunt high up the revvs, that's why the caterham held onto its lead so long. Nice defence though, because the radical is much faster trought the bends.

  • Yeah, the Caterham seems to have worse suspension and can't corner as well, or have such a good exit as the Radical. I'm saying that just looking at the video, cause i've never driven anything more than karts :P

  • great driving

  • Was that Jarno Trulli driving the caterham? Man he defended hard..... was definitely at fault for the tap and then proceeded to wander around the track...some would argue on purpose. Still, as I race caterhams I'd say he did incredibly well to be only 1-2 seconds off a radical/jade....500 bhp per tonne or not.

  • @plwls Caterham was def good at defending the inside line and probably lapping more slowly than normal as a result. However he was willing to crash into someone who was inside him to hold the lead which at that level of club racing is just stupid. At one point had the radical driver held his line the caterham would have been taken out but the radical driver thought better of it which probably saved both racers a lot of money.

  • Exactly what I was thinking! He drove like an idiot for the 1st part then became a rolling road block! Definately a Trulli-style drive!

  • Great driving and excellent car. Very good 9:32 minutes. Greetings from an Elise R in Portugal.

  • what a fantastic race

  • I enjoyed watching that!

  • Nice ! Nice

  • That was sweet!!!

  • Absolutely fun driving

  • fantastic driving!!

    what camera do you use?

  • God I love these cars, they're just excellent on track, as I've seen some around here in Australia. Pity I can't buy one yet, they're a bit too expensive for me :(.

  • wow.. the guy in the the caterham was driving like a dick, he should have waved you by way in the beginning

  • nismolord every comment you make just shows your ignorance! There are things you can & things you cant do in racing & one that you cant Is to blindly shut the door on cars that are well up on your inside into a corner like this Caterham did. Now go away till you have something sensible to say.

  • agreed the caterham had that corner and then buddy waves is hand in anger (lol) because he can't pass him lol

  • i guess he thought he could do it as well since the other guy did it to him

  • @JimboD1965

    Well up the inside?

At which point during that part of the video can't you see that the Caterham is still ahead?

The Radical driver had no business complaining about anything.

He ought to do his best to not put the Caterham into a spin and he did that quite well.

    The Caterham driver defended well.

Yes, constantly taking the inside line but he can do that and that's racing.

The Radical is much quicker through the quick stuff due to it's downforce and that got the job done.

  • @christosswc

So did the Radical driver complain? He waived his hand in frustration but that was it! Not really complining in my book. "Ought to do his best not to put the Caterham into a spin" What Like the Caterham Had just put the Jade into a spin on the opening lap eh!

I put these vids up so people can enjoy them so watch or dont watch whichever suits but i'm getting fed up with people posting there interpretations of the rules of racing!

  • He has monumental grip in the slow speed corners. His car looks to be set up for quite a lot of lock; really sticks.

  • I love it ! Racing at its best ! Nice drive !

  • Loved the battle with the caterham, man he wasny for loosing that posistion.

  • ah thats the Rover k series powered R500, how does it do against the Duratec powered Caterham R500?

  • " 20bhp big wow" What are you on about? Did I miss something or what! If you want to post something at least make it understandable.

  • i could watch this all day........

  • You are most welcome to! I went round Silverstone GP circuit in the passenger seat a few days ago & have to say the cornering speeds are just unbelievable! Far above any road car however exotic. Video footage like this just doesn't do it justice. Thanks for watching.

  • cool vid !! +5 !

  • that catrom guy is a wanker!

    fantastic driving from chales though

  • Hi jungs,

dieses Vieo ist einfach geil :-)

    Danke an den racer!

  • Vielen Dank für die netten Anmerkungen und für die Beobachtung!!!

  • This is easily the best youtube video I've seen in months. Thank you for your contribution!

  • Thanks for Watching it!

  • Hi Again. After every race does the car need to be thouroughly cleaned, stripped, checked etc. We do in karts so I'm curious. If so, does you brother do this or does he have a team to do it for him, if so how much is this for the team to do? Cheers once again.

  • You can have a team run the car for you if you want! Just cost big £££.We sometimes only have 30 minutes between races so we only have time for a refuel & quick check over. But as is normal in racing between events you can do as much as you want!

  • Great driving. Caterham driver was being a bit of cheeky bastard even if it was a race! Dont know why people are praising the Caterhams performance over the Radicals considering the difference in power to weight ratio. Anyway, great video, thanks for uploading.

  • Cos they love Caterhams & dont like seeing them get beat! Seriously though it seems to be like the Chevy / Ford thing in the USA! You Like one & people expect you to hate the other regardless!! Not so. If I had to chose one to have & also use it on the road then it would be the Caterham. Thanks for watching

  • Very good video, joy to watch. If it is you driving, how much is a good normal race weekend? Don't be shy to put me of the high expense... we have done karting at national level which isn't cheap!

  • Its my brother driving but as for costs well for a 1 day event typically entry could be £300 or so, a set of tyres is about £450, fuel £100 so thats getting towards £1000 not allowing for breakages or wear & tear. This would be for about 80 minute actual track time including practice sessions. All this is very approximate though!! Thanks for watching

  • Thats about what I expected, we spend around £1200 karting for a Fri, Sat and the race on Sunday.

When racing the Radicals (or any other cars in that class, like the Caterham) is it only the race Sunday or is there Saturday (even Friday) testing. Thanks

  • Different championships & meetings have different formats. The SEMSEC event shown is a Saturday only event whereas the Radical factory events are often Saturday & Sunday & maybe able to do testing on the Friday.

  • Wicked mate, thanks for the info. Hopefully I can do it at 16. I would love to anyway and so would dad. Thank again, I'll probably have some more question soon so I will contact you then!

  • Brilliant video! very nice driving aswell ,thanks for posting

  • Very nice, the Caterham is showing age,why do they still use the old suspension set up and not the double wiishbones of the latest CSR?

  • I dont know really. Is the suspension a straight swap over? Anyway, there are later Caterhams further down the field, certainly 1 CSR260 that I know of and several r400 & 500's. They just didn't qualify higher up the field.

  • Cor dear.... just goes ot show wings and and downforce ar'nt everything. Nearly done by a caterham.,.. and the k series R500 at that! Dear oh dear!

  • Nah there not everything, but allow the radical with a mere 400bhp/ton to whoop the caterham by nearly 2 seconds per lap. And thats all down to cornering speed as there isn't anything to be had on the straights. Think we will leave the wings on for now! Yeah bring on the Duratec R500, maybe better power to weight but heavier so probably no quicker on a tight circuit like Lydden than a Race preped K series "lightweight" like this one.I like caterhams but you obviously love them!!! Dear oh dear!

  • oh men that aint real!how fast the sr round the corners is...way better than anything (except maybe for a 2-11)

  • Wow, thanks for posting that. Excellent driving. Nice. Great work. Also, I think it's pretty amazing that a 1957 design that you can drive home from the race track can give any trouble at all to a modern purpose built racer like the Radical. Cool cars. Awsome driving!

  • Yeah the Caterhams basic design maybe old but Colin Chapman would probably be amazed at the performance of the later ones. The Radical SR3 1300 has a lower power to weight ratio than the R500 so has to use its cornering & braking advantage to beat them(typicaly by about 1 to 1.5 seconds a lap on Lydden Hill circuit)Thanks for watching & please check out my other race videos.

  • Haha, very nice driving! I like how you take him on the outside and then just shaft him on your right hand side because the next bend is to the left...I wish i could have a go in one of those things because i do lots of proper sim driving and you do drive exactly how i would do so if i was in a car like that!

  • fabulous

thanks for sharing that, really enjoyed it

  • Lydden Hill, what a fantastic Circuit

  • fantastic race!!

  • It must be the explanation because im sure he's not lying about what his car is!Also I recon you will find more k series engined r500's about on the club circuit than Duratec ones, when you see how long each was made for.

  • Yes, I think so too.

Would be very interesting to see a "new R500" on the track with Radical SR4.

  • Nice track video but the Caterham is not a R500 sorry.

  • Well Julian Sage (the guy who owns it)thinks it is and its entered in the SEMSEC races at Lydden Hill & Brands Hatch as one but sorry you dont think so.Next time I see Him i'll tell him & see if he believes me!Seriously though why dont you think it is?

  • The Duratec engines in the new Caterham R500 have the exhaust system on the RHD side.

  • Ah ok. So could this be an earlier 500 with the k series then?

  • Well, this might be the explanation. :-=

  • :-)
