you may NOT want to loosen the screw near the throttle body. That needs to be set perfectlyish (easiest to do with the throttle body off the car) so the plate doesnt bind.
all m20b25's tick like that, they are sohc so its gonna be loud. and dont tell me yea ur an idiot etc. i have an e30 325is. thats actually really quiet for the m20 valves.
I did that to a lawnmower once with a few spoonfuls of Transmission Fluid. It cleaned the heads and valvetrain, but lubricated the cylinder so much that it burned some oil for a bit.
My valves sound the same... Welcome to the life of an M20.

They don't get silent, but that's pretty bad. Definitely worth adjusting. I have a '90 325is and '88 325iX

you have some mad valve tapping, you ought to check them out and adjust them.
