i really dont think that any kind of putty will seal a hole on a plastic bottle in the commercial billy put the putty on a metal pipe . maybe try using metal pipe

also when you cracked the link you used to lift the weight the putty cracked along the seam where you folded the two ends of the link together. so maybe if you made that fold abit better and left it to dry a bit longer i dont think it will crack or crack as easy
