@skierthing06 I have had a master class with brian shaw and he sounds good. Its no comparison to wynton's playing ability to the song. They both sound amazing.
Why would you try to play like Wynton. That's like trying to be God. There's only one God! There's God and then there's everyone else. Other examples, Michael Jordan, Wayne Gretzky, Itzak Perlman, Duke Ellington, Yo-Yo Ma, Bill Gates, etc.
wshen wynton was 18, he had an offer to play with some professional orchestra in america (san francisco i think) or the art blakey band. He chose art blakey, but obviously didnt lose his classical skills. A unique and very talented player!
I say precisely the opposite about his jazz vs classical, but that is all subjective. Andre set the bar for any classical trumpet performer, his sound is beyond belief. I will say he plays with less freedom than Marsalis, but at the same time defines beauty without unnecessary flourish or ornemantation. That comment does not mean I think Marsalis uses superfluous ornmentation, no way. But there are some whose recordings sound like they do it for the sake of being different vs the musical result.
Well, i think it's the highest concerto. It's not the highest note playable on the trumpet; people can definitely reach higher notes than that. There are exercises that train to go higher than this, so definitely the full range on the trumpet is higher than this. But I do believe that this trumpet concerto contains the highest note ever written in an actual song.
@natbrain I cannot be so sure. Walt Johnson published a method book titled "Double High C in Ten Minutes" *A New approach to playing the High Register Trumpet*. At the end of the method book there is a Ballad written on sheet music that is an actual song. Within this Ballad the range required is our low F# up to a High D (six ledger lines above the staff). This is in no way to say this ballad is more beautiful than that of this wonderful piece. I just believe there to be a higher note ritn
He is so damn good, i didn't see his fingers move once!!!!!!

krassio97 3 months ago
@krassio97 He has always been a classical, as well a major jazz trumpeter.
TDG1919 2 months ago
@krassio97 before Wynton switched Jazz, he was solely a classical player.

@TerminalDucky he was never solely a classical player, he was classically trained but always played jazz.

he is such a great player, he was perfect at the classical music and now he is
the greatest jazz player for me on this earth. My biggest idol Wynton Marsalis :)

it's not the highest you know.

It's not? What other baroque or classical trumpet concerto has a written note higher than the A above high C in this one?

no, a ballad, but a song nonetheless.

Alright. I've seen upper register exercises that where the highest note it covers is like, 7 ledger lines!
