@SFBay69 The ecoboost and the 5.0 are relatively the same. Actually in HP and torque very close. The ecoboost is supercharged and the 5.0 has Variable Timing.
@thegetupgirl1986 Actually the Ecoboost isn't Supercharged in Twin Turbo Charged, and both engines have Variable Valve Timeing and Twin Independent Cam Timeing. I went with the 5.0L in my Supercab FX4...Just can't beat a good V8 engine.
@MercuryMorrison1 I do stand corrected. Its amazing what that 3.5L V6 can do. I heard the 5.0L isnt like the old ones. I would imagine they are tons better. The old 5.0L were very simple and easy to mod but I am no where near as powerful as yours "out of the box." My F250 has the old 351W, love the power, hate the MPG. Ford is going to that classic gauge look. "Cool Colors"
@thegetupgirl1986 Yeah I myself actully used to own a 1990 F-150 with the ''old'' 5.0L and let me tell you....Stock for stock there is some major difference's between the two. Don't get me wrong I loved my old 1990, the simplicity of it all and the fact that I could do pretty any work it needed in my own driveway was nice. But wasn't particularly powerful when compared to my 2011 5.0L. In order for my old truck even come close to my new trucks power it would require extensive mod's.
Just got rid of my 2011 f150 5.0 at 11,000 miles, it was the biggest piece of shit ive ever owned I had to replace a driveshaft, rear end, tranny mounts, u joints, abs something, window motor, seat motor, leaf spring, and the computer reprogrammed but my 06 5.4 was perfect till 120,000 when i totaled it.
@Bswagg77 Are you serious? So you're saying you purchased a 5.0 F150 and had to replace the driveshaft, the rear end pumpkin, both u-joints, trannie mounts, window and seat motors and had to have the "computer" (ecu?) re-programmed? No offense, but did you spend all 11,000 miles driving offroad through the middle of nowhere, breaking everything but the engine??? I call bullshit. My 2010 4.6L F150 4x4 is fine and I beat it like a bastard stepchild, have been for over 20k miles.
@Bswagg77 Something is fishy about this story. If YOU had to replace all those things, then Ford must have concluded that the defects were YOUR fault (negligence), otherwise, they would have been replaced under warranty. I call bullshit as well.
@andy123441 its a hybrid. Ford is getting the same, if not better, gas mileage with a regular gas engine. And they are more powerful. Chevy's have fell so far behind now. That's why they had to get bailed out by the government.
I've been using Chevy's for a long time and have had great luck with them but the Ford 5.0 is probably the best all-round truck engine right now. I'd take an FX4 with a 6.5 box.
I'm still enjoying my '89 5.0 F-250. 180K miles, bone stock except a flowmaster and a K&N air filter. Still running strong, and getting 19mpg on the highway. I hope these new 302's live up to their ancestors.
@xoquixxoqafxo I hate to say he's right but...sadly he is, you got it to do that in about 7 seconds flat, I've had a Manuel Malibu do it in 6.5 seconds. Not much a difference by about .5 but anythings possible if you can drive stick correctly, unlike most people who get a new car with a stick. But anyways, Great truck you have take care of it. By the way, have you seen the fiat 500c? that thing is crazy.
Right. Lets see your Malibu beat the F150 while towing a 6000-9000-lbs trailer or driving to a remote worksite on muddy roads with a load of tools in the back. Your Malibu isn't even in the same class.
@mjohn8ball you 03 malibu is a ugly gm peice of shit that doesnt deserve to have 4 wheels more or less a license plate obamas stupid plan to take the shitty cars off the road should of taken your 03 malibu with it..
@mjohn8ball lol whatever you say. My 5.0L F-150 FX4 will run circles around you Malibu all day and truth is it probably gets better mileage than you're car! LMAO.

@NathansBackwoods yup, or go ext cab and get a ecoboost...lol i just wish i could thow ANY of those engines in my 08. i have a reg cab shortbed but its a 4.2 with a 5spd with an intake and custom tuned. still only like 215hp and 270Lb-Ft with that, compared to like 302hp and 270 stock on the 3.7...well somewhere around there. but then again, the 4.2 is pretty reliable...but if i could, id go with the ecoboost but also it still doesnt have the V8 sound...
I just took deleivery on a 5.0L FX4 extended cab. I've been avaraging around 17-18mpg around town and I've had it up to 23 on the highway. I love these new F-150's. Ford really covered all their bases with them.
I just bought An 2011 F-150 supercab 4x4 and I average around 22-24 mpg on the highway. So bitch all you want, but I've never even heard of a truck getting that good of gas mileage
@musefan321 my 04 f150 heritage V6 stock got maybe 21-22highway. dont know for sure but my combined average was 18.9mpg, then 19.9 with a K&N drop-in, then 22.5 with a K&N intake. so maybe 25 highway..but never took a trip so i dont know for sure. same intake is now on my 08 V6 f150 and it gained maybe 1-2mpg. i do know that on my trip back from PA to CO i was getting 19.8mpg at 90mph but i was drafting off a dodge ram thru all of kansas, then he turned off and i got about 16 doing 90mph
@musefan321 I would love to get that mpg. I have a 97 F250 with a 351W. I am lucky to see 15 LoL. I think Ford sure has something good going with the new engine line ups!
@musefan321 An older Cummins with a standard tranny (when driven properly) will yield aprox 25-30 depending on the size of the truck and the condition of the engine...)
@musefan321 I'm guessing you're talking 5.0? I got a 4.6 3V that gets 21mpg but that's a 4X2 with 3.31 gears. I want a 5.0 or ecoboost. I can't imagine that kind of power with the mpg. I think my truck gets up and goes pretty well but the 5.0 and ecoboost are insane!!!
I'm not a Ford man by a long shot but i think Ford is doing a great job with the 5.0's.. I'd love to race one in my Tundra or at least see a race against a Tundra
@xoquixxoqafxo 7.5 seconds for an Altima. If I had a car I wouldn't brag about it being equally as fast as a full size F-150. Sounds sweet. Wonder what it would be like with K&N and firmer shifts from an Edge programmer
@bobish101 Altimas are nice bro. One thing people never take in considerations is weight and how aero dynamic the vehicle is. Your Nissan is lower to the ground has more curves to which makes is aero dynamic and weighs less than 3000 lbs. The pickup above is 4000-6000 pounds and isn't even as close being aero dynamic as your Nissan. So i'd say taking these factors that truck does a swell job getting up to speed.
@bobish101 You want to know the point of fast trucks? Because there really is a reason we want our trucks to go fast. Think about when we're pulling something. The faster the truck is, the faster it can be with that 10,000 pound trailer on the back. Or how about passing on the highway. Where I live, there are a lot of hills and 2 lane roads. Passing is a bitch, but with a powerful truck, it's not so difficult. I'm not a fan of sport trucks but I LOVE these fast work horses!
It was an XLT 4x4 in a crew cab, Not sure what the rear end was... my guess its was the standard rear end since it didnt have many options on it. It did take them a long time but in my opinion, it was worth the wait and now they truly have the best in class full size truck.
Liquidnitrogin, you must be a kid. you ignorant, hard headed and stupid. the facts are all there google is your friend, use it before talking a bunch of crap. even people who buy mustangs, 350z's and all kinds of other sports cars care about fuel mileage another reason they've started making hybrid sports cars (not something i like) and that 3.5 ecoboost went through the torture test, that engine wont die after 100000 miles youll see man.
It's called can't afford it get a second job big trucks big gas tanks equals big ass gas bill idiot!!!! Fords have huge gas tanks and a shitty 5.4 to suck on them up shit I gave you prop on the new engines! Don't hate appreciate!
I wasn't denying the F-150's expensive gas bill. Ford offers a 36 gallon gas tank while the Ram's optional tank is 32 gallons. I just respect Ford bc the F-150 is the only full size truck to get over 20 mpg hwy with the 5.0L and 3.5L twin turbo. The 3.7L V6 with 2WD even gets 23 mpg hwy and thats very impressive for such a huge truck with 302 hp. They are decently quick too as it embarrasses the 3.7L in the Ram. Like I said, the ram is only impressive with the Hemi.
Ohhh gas mileage who cares!! You don't buy a full size and say mine gets better gas mileage then yours stupid! Eco-boost is a good idea until the engine gives out at 100 000 miles of being mouth fucked by those turbos 7000 rpm it's a ford truck not a civic!
That has got to be the most ignorant comment I have ever read... Who cares about fuel economy? Have fun paying $120 bucks to fill up your fat Hemi Dodge Ram with gas at $4 bucks a gallon right now. My god, when will people like you ever learn? Even full size truck buyers don't want to be spending 120 bucks a week to fill up idiot.
I just find it's about time ford changes their 5.4 I do like their 6 speed transmissions for hauling shit but for performance nothing beats a hemi... Sorry!
Whats sad about the Dodge Ram is the only good engine is the 5.7, the 3.7 and 4.7 are just underpowered (especially the V6) and the 5 speed auto needs to be replaced. Ford's ecoboost engine also gets 22 mpg hwy for 4x2 models! No pickup truck can beat that!
@Liquidnitrogin Ford had guys like you come down to a test drive event a while back. They found that the Hemi Ram was no were neer the Ford Ecoboost and the 6.2 in the drag race event and the towing test.
If you aren't hating than why'd you call it shitty? The new engines are anything but shitty... Shitty engines would be the 4.7L in the Ram or 5.3L in the Chevy :P
@xoquixxoqafxo No, I think 3.5L V6 EcoBoost 365 will outrun 6.2L V8 due to twin turbo. Twin Turbo pulls more torque. 3.5L V6 have more torque than 6.2L. But I could wrong. They pull pretty much same but v6 will pulls faster in 0-60 and maybe 6.2 pull faster in 60-100.
I've never driven a new Hemi Ram but 0-60 in 5.9 seems too fast. I'd say its more like 6.7 or about as quick as this 5.0 F-150. Dodge seriously needs to update their 4.7L as its slow and the 5 speed auto needs to go as well.
@xoquixxoqafxo its true i cant remember who tested it but dodge said the same. well they are getting rid of the 4.7 in the next year or 2 and they have a new 8 speed comming for the ram next year.
@Moparman58 You must be talking about the Dodge Ram R/T's. I've heard of those setting sub 6 second 0-60's. But they are lighter and have a special torque converter to help them get off the line faster. Most of Hemi Rams I've seen (2009 and up) Take between 6.5 and 7.5 seconds to 0-60, depending on configuration.
@xoquixxoqafxo I respectfully disagree. The Ecoboost sounds like a vaccum cleaner...It is quite which is what alot of people want and that's cool. But its far from sounding cool IMO. The 5.0L however sounds truely performance derived and has comparable accelration and fuel econmy to the Ecoboost all for 750$ less in intial price. Thats why I'm opting for the 5.0L when I order my new FX4 Extended cab here in a few months.
Hey thats cool. The 5.0L is a badass engine too and works well in the F-150. I probably would never own a truck but an F-150 with the 3.5 twin turbo is probably the only truck I'd be interested in owning since I'm not a hardcore truck buyer so I dont have the need to have a V8 under the hood.
@xoquixxoqafxo I just saw a vid of the 6.2 total over kill at least in my opinion. These 5.0's and 3.5's should be more then enough for most people. That said tho, these seems overpriced, especially for a Ford product. I'd rather save some money and take a Ram or Silverado.
The 6.2 is overkill. 5.0 and 3.5 twin turbo will be enough and both get way better gas mileage. I don't think the Ford is that expensive. This model had a sticker of around $36 grand and it was equipped with most of the stuff that truck buyers want. Sure the upper trims will hit nearly $50 grand fully loaded but soo will all the other trucks fully loaded too. I mean I'm a firm believer in the saying "You get what you pay for" and I would rather pay the extra money to get the Ford.
Hopefully the f150 will be back in the game as their 5.4 was a weak POS. With the 5.0 they should be more competitive with Nissan Titan's 5.6, Dodge's Hemi 5.7 and Toyotas 5.7. BTW the ecoboost will be faster/quicker than the 5.0.
Im more interested in how quick the ecoboost F150 will be. Its a shame a lot of hard core truck buyers will turn it down just bc its down 2 cylinders.
I drove both and opted for the 5.0. I noted that they both did a 0-60 in about the same amount of time (well actually the 5.0 was a 1/2 sec faster, but I will give the ecoboost 1/2 sec due to the turbo lag/tire burn.
It would take approximately 3 years in perfect conditions to regain your initial $800 extra investment assuming you drive 15000 miles a year like I do. Now after three years, if you plan to keep the ecoboost, you are gonna probably need turbo work...uh oh
Its hard to buy a truck without a V8. Its just not the same, as having a V8 in it. I dunno I am sure its an awesome motor but just the stereotypical way we look at trucks.
I don't think hardcore truck buyers will turn down the Ecoboost cause it has 2 less cylinders... but because it requires 2 turbochargers. But give Ford credit for doing it when everyone else was afraid.
@xoquixxoqafxo I would turn it down because it has 60 hp less than the 6.2 liter which makes for a second off the 0-60 time and much more grunt to haul my 30 foot trailer. Eco boost is really for people who buy trucks just to have them and dont actually use them for their intended purpose.
It hurt me to do it... but its a tough truck it can take it lol. No really if this was my personal car I'd never do that until 1000 miles but this truck is a rental.
You know, I test drove the 2011 5.0 and the EB several months ago at the Fontana f-150 Round Up and I remember thinking to myself that it really doesn't need an after market exhaust. Hearing this again, I stand by my assesment.
Just drove a XLT SUPERCREW F150 4x4 with the 5.0 WoW, that truck runs like a top!!! The back seat is huge and it rides really well. The dealership said it would be $402 a month for 60 months with my trade in. There only giving me $15,000 trade in for my 2005 F250 4x4 5.4 ext cab XLT with only 26,400 miles! I'll sell it on my own thanks.
Moves more in a hurry than the OLD 5.4...... Sounds great too. I dunno Y some say this engine sounds strange. I think It the most refined sounding V8 Fords Done. I like how they scream when they reach at or past 6k.
Agreed, I drove a 2010 right before this 2011 with the 4.6 and it was soo slow, funny how the 2010 had the V8 from the old 2010 Mustang and same with the 2011 but from the 2011 Mustang haha. It does make a nice sound. I was quite impressed when we got these, we actually got 4 brand new ones. My bf's Ford dealer doesn't even have any 2011 F-150's yet.
& I was at the Orlando Auto Show with hopes of seeing them with the new mills but instead it was all old news. I did get to see the same Red Explorer Limited With Michigan Tags at the Jarrett/Gordon Ford dealer last week. Grrr I was so upset cause it had to be the day I didn't have my Camera.

I'm not a Ford man by a long shot but i think Ford is doing a great job with the 5.0's.. I'd love to race one in my Tundra or at least see a race against a Tundra

My 4-Cylinder 2009 Nissan Altima can do equal, if not better, than that.
No really. I don't think trucks are meant to be fast sports cars.
But Hey atleast your truck won't get stuck on a curb like my car! LOL
bobish101 8 months ago 4
@bobish101
yeah right, the 4 cylinder Altima with the CVT takes around 8.5 to 9 secs to hit 60. Its not bad but i hate the CVT
xoquixxoqafxo 8 months ago
@xoquixxoqafxo 7.5 seconds for an Altima. If I had a car I wouldn't brag about it being equally as fast as a full size F-150. Sounds sweet. Wonder what it would be like with K&N and firmer shifts from an Edge programmer

@bobish101 why would you even compare your car to a truck are you retarded
METALMULISHACO 8 months ago
@bobish101 and an altima is?
south9563 7 months ago
@bobish101 Altimas are nice bro. One thing people never take in considerations is weight and how aero dynamic the vehicle is. Your Nissan is lower to the ground has more curves to which makes is aero dynamic and weighs less than 3000 lbs. The pickup above is 4000-6000 pounds and isn't even as close being aero dynamic as your Nissan. So i'd say taking these factors that truck does a swell job getting up to speed.
ACDCPSP 7 months ago
@bobish101 You want to know the point of fast trucks? Because there really is a reason we want our trucks to go fast. Think about when we're pulling something. The faster the truck is, the faster it can be with that 10,000 pound trailer on the back. Or how about passing on the highway. Where I live, there are a lot of hills and 2 lane roads. Passing is a bitch, but with a powerful truck, it's not so difficult. I'm not a fan of sport trucks but I LOVE these fast work horses!
NKeen1000 2 weeks ago
what type of truck is it? 2wd, 4x4, supercab, crewcab, regular cab?? rear end??
Ford has their shit together with the new engine line up but it has been a long time coming.
Magnum74 8 months ago
@Magnum74
It was an XLT 4x4 in a crew cab, Not sure what the rear end was... my guess its was the standard rear end since it didnt have many options on it. It did take them a long time but in my opinion, it was worth the wait and now they truly have the best in class full size truck.
xoquixxoqafxo 8 months ago
@xoquixxoqafxo
Toally. Works well and sounds good. I think I'd be in to the 5.0 over the Ecoboost but I think both of them are a good option.
Magnum74 8 months ago
Liquidnitrogin, you must be a kid. you ignorant, hard headed and stupid. the facts are all there google is your friend, use it before talking a bunch of crap. even people who buy mustangs, 350z's and all kinds of other sports cars care about fuel mileage another reason they've started making hybrid sports cars (not something i like) and that 3.5 ecoboost went through the torture test, that engine wont die after 100000 miles youll see man.

Liquidnitrogin 10 months ago
@Liquidnitrogin
Like I said, the ram is only impressive with the Hemi.
xoquixxoqafxo 10 months ago 9
Ohhh gas mileage who cares!! You don't buy a full size and say mine gets better gas mileage then yours stupid! Eco-boost is a good idea until the engine gives out at 100 000 miles of being mouth fucked by those turbos 7000 rpm it's a ford truck not a civic!
Liquidnitrogin 10 months ago
@Liquidnitrogin

@xoquixxoqafxo I do
ACDCPSP 9 months ago
I just find it's about time ford changes their 5.4 I do like their 6 speed transmissions for hauling shit but for performance nothing beats a hemi... Sorry!
Liquidnitrogin 10 months ago
@Liquidnitrogin
No pickup truck can beat that!
xoquixxoqafxo 10 months ago
@Liquidnitrogin Ford had guys like you come down to a test drive event a while back. They found that the Hemi Ram was no were neer the Ford Ecoboost and the 6.2 in the drag race event and the towing test.
yellowcow13 10 months ago
The Ram R/t would smoke that shitty 5.0L no hating! But the new fords are sweet!
Liquidnitrogin 10 months ago
@Liquidnitrogin
If you aren't hating than why'd you call it shitty? The new engines are anything but shitty... Shitty engines would be the 4.7L in the Ram or 5.3L in the Chevy :P

@colton010
I'm pretty sure the 6.2 V8 F-150 will outrun it :P
xoquixxoqafxo 10 months ago 15
@xoquixxoqafxo No, I think 3.5L V6 EcoBoost 365 will outrun 6.2L V8 due to twin turbo. Twin Turbo pulls more torque. 3.5L V6 have more torque than 6.2L. But I could wrong. They pull pretty much same but v6 will pulls faster in 0-60 and maybe 6.2 pull faster in 60-100.
kenneykole 7 months ago
@kenneykole
Actually the 6.2L has 434 ft lbs vs 420 in the ecoboost engine. That extra 14 isnt a big deal tho as the 6.2 for me is overkill
xoquixxoqafxo 7 months ago
@colton010 PUTC did a test of a 5.0L F-150 and it was only one 10th of a second slower threw the 1/4 mile than the 6.2L Silverado they tested.
MercuryMorrison1 10 months ago
yeah your soposed to break it IN not break it.
Jaygeta1 10 months ago
these new engines are pretty sweet but the new hemi in the ram will do 0-60 in 5.9 seconds. i like the ford and dodge the best.
Moparman58 11 months ago
@Moparman58
I've never driven a new Hemi Ram but 0-60 in 5.9 seems too fast. I'd say its more like 6.7 or about as quick as this 5.0 F-150. Dodge seriously needs to update their 4.7L as its slow and the 5 speed auto needs to go as well.
xoquixxoqafxo 11 months ago
@xoquixxoqafxo its true i cant remember who tested it but dodge said the same. well they are getting rid of the 4.7 in the next year or 2 and they have a new 8 speed comming for the ram next year.
Moparman58 11 months ago
@xoquixxoqafxo
The only Ram HEMI that goes 0-60 in 5.9 seconds is the brand new Ram 1500 R/T
josh1303 10 months ago
@Moparman58 You must be talking about the Dodge Ram R/T's. I've heard of those setting sub 6 second 0-60's. But they are lighter and have a special torque converter to help them get off the line faster. Most of Hemi Rams I've seen (2009 and up) Take between 6.5 and 7.5 seconds to 0-60, depending on configuration.
MercuryMorrison1 11 months ago
@leanlifter
The Ecoboost V6 sounds badass and pulls just as hard as the 5.0. You must be one of those hardcore truck buyers then :P
xoquixxoqafxo 11 months ago
@xoquixxoqafxo I respectfully disagree. The Ecoboost sounds like a vaccum cleaner...It is quite which is what alot of people want and that's cool. But its far from sounding cool IMO. The 5.0L however sounds truely performance derived and has comparable accelration and fuel econmy to the Ecoboost all for 750$ less in intial price. Thats why I'm opting for the 5.0L when I order my new FX4 Extended cab here in a few months.
MercuryMorrison1 11 months ago
@MercuryMorrison1
Hey thats cool. The 5.0L is a badass engine too and works well in the F-150. I probably would never own a truck but an F-150 with the 3.5 twin turbo is probably the only truck I'd be interested in owning since I'm not a hardcore truck buyer so I dont have the need to have a V8 under the hood.
xoquixxoqafxo 11 months ago
@xoquixxoqafxo I just saw a vid of the 6.2 total over kill at least in my opinion. These 5.0's and 3.5's should be more then enough for most people. That said tho, these seems overpriced, especially for a Ford product. I'd rather save some money and take a Ram or Silverado.
watso64 11 months ago
@watso64
I mean I'm a firm believer in the saying "You get what you pay for" and I would rather pay the extra money to get the Ford.
xoquixxoqafxo 11 months ago

I almost want a RCSB 5.0...
GeoThundra 11 months ago
Hopefully the f150 will be back in the game as their 5.4 was a weak POS. With the 5.0 they should be more competitive with Nissan Titan's 5.6, Dodge's Hemi 5.7 and Toyotas 5.7. BTW the ecoboost will be faster/quicker than the 5.0.
blowbyu187 11 months ago
@blowbyu187 I must agree, The ecoboost is a much lighter powertrain. And has a wider torque range throughout the whole RPM range.

You can really see the traction control crippling it in first gear. Once it finally gets up to about 4000 it spins right up to 5500.
smpstech 11 months ago
@EpikFaile
Im more interested in how quick the ecoboost F150 will be. Its a shame a lot of hard core truck buyers will turn it down just bc its down 2 cylinders.
xoquixxoqafxo 11 months ago 2
@xoquixxoqafxo
Now after three years, if you plan to keep the ecoboost, you are gonna probably need turbo work...uh oh
randalwc 11 months ago
@xoquixxoqafxo
Its hard to buy a truck without a V8. Its just not the same, as having a V8 in it. I dunno I am sure its an awesome motor but just the stereotypical way we look at trucks.
josh1303 10 months ago
@xoquixxoqafxo
I don't think hardcore truck buyers will turn down the Ecoboost cause it has 2 less cylinders... but because it requires 2 turbochargers. But give Ford credit for doing it when everyone else was afraid.
adogg619 10 months ago
@xoquixxoqafxo I would turn it down because it has 60 hp less than the 6.2 liter which makes for a second off the 0-60 time and much more grunt to haul my 30 foot trailer. Eco boost is really for people who buy trucks just to have them and dont actually use them for their intended purpose.
