I like 'indie' music, but don't only listen to it; I can be super fucking happy and super fucking depressed; I wear skinny jeans and band tees but I also can wear skirts and cute tops, it really depends on what mood I'm in; people in school call me "emo" and I basically don't give a fuck. It's not effectling them. I mostly follow rules but I'm still myself.

eh, personlly being emo isnt that at all, its not a style or trend. being emo is a state of mind, emotional. its usually when you cant handle your problems emotionlly (hence the name xD) "emos" are just another label given to people from others stereotypic view on things. so, your wrong about it also.

I think emo has grown to become a catchall term that teenagers use. It basically boils down to "different and typically wearing a lot of black" Kids just look at somebody that fits that description and call them emo. In my opinion emo is a trend and it's kind of died since about 2008. I'm a bigger fan of goth than emo as a whole, the fashion, the general culture, but there's some emo music that I do like.

@catrehona Ehh not quite. Goth is older than all of those bands. Goths can like those bands, there's no rules for what music you like but those bands aren't goth themselves. Voltaire and Bauhaus would be considered goth, not those.
I love black and I used to wear black everyday day... whenever I have classes, I usually wear my black jacket since I can't really make my uniform black... anyways, I hate it whenever someone stares at me... always been sent to the counselor... yeah, I do have problems. but doesn't everybody?... Gothic did not come from music, the goth many people see now, are chains, spikes, baggy pants, ect....That mainly origanted from music but for people like me who are into corsets and laced gloves, puffy skirts, and all that are based off the old victorian style of Gothic. @SiSeSears Goth, ALL goth, come from punk. The genres spiral out from there. Punk is the essential progenetor. Goth segways from punk in the 80's with genres like new wave and bands like The Cure, Siouxsie and the Banshees and Bauhaus.

Actually, goth do not come from modern music. Goth have existed since the medieval, the renaissance and so on...and why compare Korn, Marilyn Manson and Avenged Sevenfold? :P Marilyn Manson is of course gothic music, just another kind of the gothic music. Doesn't take long to understand that. Sevenfold is hardcore emo and Korn is nu metal... xD

You're a poser emulating the trend that jump started in the early 2000's once music labels realized they could make money off of promoting shitty bands like Panic! At The Disco. All of the people here saying it's a life style are completely clue less to what the music scene is. A lot of emo now a days has that mid west sound (twinkly guitars, DIY Punk/Math Rock influenced, group vocals, etc) that has influence from American Football and The Promise Ring, etc.

I think emo has grown to become a catchall term that teenagers use. It basically boils down to "different and typically wearing a lot of black" Kids just look at somebody that fits that description and call them emo. In my opinion emo is a trend and it's kind of died since about 2008. I'm a bigger fan of goth than emo as a whole, the fashion, the general culture, but there's some emo music that I do like.

You were pretty right about everything with Goths, exceapt one thing. Gothic did not come from music, the goth many people see now, are chains, spikes, baggy pants, ect....That mainly origanted from music but for people like me who are into corsets and laced gloves, puffy skirts, and all that are based off the old victorian style of Gothic. Actually, goth do not come from modern music. Goth have existed since the medieval, the renaissance and so on...and why compare Korn, Marilyn Manson and Avenged Sevenfold? :P Marilyn Manson is of course gothic music, just another kind of the gothic music.
