  • If all you see is a still picture, change the quality to 240p. Upvote so people can see.

  • no sound, still picture

  • i was looking for harvey p car on david letterman,i can see why harvey was so insulted dave can now see to i bet .ive been trying to get shit started with mike for a life time never came up to him thoe hatting from a far gets you in more trouble than a little im so huggable.i look like a ninja turtle mike and a chip munk theo.

  • hihÌ_ÁnyÔNë_wAnñÁ_chät_wîth_më_î_fëël_sö_lÔnEly_tÖÐÂý~

  • got off!

  • ....Is it just me who is seing just a picture??

  • is it meant to be silent?

  • Very nice... sonically and conceptually

here's one controller you don't have to keep dry. ;-)

  • That is fucking wicked mate. im impressed!!

  • It's like the Liquinth! You should totally make it vaguely keyboard-shaped and add a towel rail onto it.

  • now install one on your toilet.

  • OMG Exactly what I was thinking!

  • holy crap, what a coincidence! i'm on your page on 8bitcollective right now! and it's same person!

  • small world ay

  • that was fucking amazing

  • IMAGINE IF THE WATER WAS BOILING!!!! it would be crazy scremo angry music.

  • ye mate tht mint i wana no how did he do it

  • KICK

    ASS!

now this is some quality underwater music :D

  • This is insanely beautiful.

  • so, so, so good.

  • sounds very organic, i love it :) its cool how the decay is totally natural from the ripples...no digital delay needed :D

  • I LOVE the sound of this...

  • This kind of reminded me of the people who make music using the old Gameboy sound effects. Very, very cool.

  • Funny you should say this... have you seen my gameboy music videos?

  • Not yet...but as soon as I'm at a computer with speakers I will! =)

  • What is music?

  • anything that will make you happy

  • exactly, good point.

  • id say, any sounds that make you happy :D

  • I must say, this is one of the coolest electronics projects I have seen on here. Very impressive. Keep the videos coming.

  • a question for the creator, is this just a control surface? I'm not really interested in unique control surfaces per se, unless its the water generating the tones acoustically. it seems that its just the obstruction of the laser thats setting off a synth.. eh. i do find what's interesting here is the connection between the visual and the auditory. i'd like to see slo mo with multiple ripples and waves done by objects of different sizes. regardless, thanks

  • hi there, the action of the water is doing more than just triggering a sound - the state of the water is controlling the volume level of a waveform (one for each laser) -- this information is updated constantly.

  • so what? one fucking major tonality?

  • So what? One fucking moron commentary?

  • so what? one fucking major tonality?

  • As you can see in the video information, this is a prototype.

The tonality is not the point.

  • ...okay... then...

  • Was that a penis joke? My God you're stupid.

  • great

  • i imagine sigur ros using this. haha

  • I Love this. it sounds serene and would make a lovely cd for backround music.

  • And you're a moron.

  • so beautiful.

  • Wait, did you just say "1 star fags" and then claim no offense? Just internet stupidity.

  • omg this is sooo amazing

u gotta teach me how to do it

  • Hi there, you can learn how to build one by reading the link on the description of the video.

  • Very beautiful. I hope you're still progressing with this.

  • its just got sensors in there which are assigned as midi, contrllling a soft synth, the water movement triggers the sensors, which trigger the sounds, it probably is velocity sensitive as well.

  • well, you;re almost right. its not using midi at all.

  • did you tried with vodka ?...how it sounds?

  • very similar.

  • You mean in the bowl? Or drinking it and then do it?

  • Well, it has a laser in it, right? It probably works by measuring the distortion in the laser light caused by ripping water. Just like you see light bend when it enters water, i expect that the ripples affect the laser beams. The change in position of the resulting beam could be picked up by a sensor, which in turn could be used as a sound driver, with the beam deflections being proportional (or at least related in some way) to pitches.

  • cool thing, but it wont get you a no1 hit

  • I think you're missing the point.

Art/music isn't necessarily measured by its commercial value.

  • I Dont think that is real i think that you definatly just put on a Cd and just mached your movment to the sounds!

  • i think you are a moron and an idiot.

  • So thats how the orb made all those strange watery sounds, lol.

  • is it like a crystal glass... which makes noises like that... and b/c its so much water it rings for a while... and lil pickups around it to distort it some... i dunno but ive heard it in a Loquat song b4

  • nice!!

  • wow

  • looks cool, but id be weary of electrity and water....

  • electricity and water here wouldn't be a problem. I'm no expert, but I'm pretty sure sensers usually require very little energy.

  • you clearly have no idea at all what you are talking about :]

Ah, how I love random smart asses.

  • hmm...this is what I think is happening. I think that the water surface thign is real, but I think the sound ain't coming from the water. I think the ripples in the water trigger stuff off, making a sound...like triggering an alarm.

  • if its a cheat its a damn good one, ive done things like that before and if its fake he has really done his homework into the sounds/movements

still you cant prove its fake :P

great work cant wait to see the finished product!

  • SWEET!

  • if aliens listen to any music it would be this.

  • Good grief that's awesome! I would love to know how that's done.. :)

  • It is impressive that it is implemented but this instrument has been done before many times in different ways (all using water).

  • thanks, dick. i love people that ruin things.

  • ???

  • i know...

  • do the lasers track vertical displacement.

can yu explain the short sharp frequencies.

  • its really FUCKING awsome!!

but anyway... how do we know that its not just cheat? hmm

  • Sue vauvv

  • THAT's freakin amazing!

  • cool

  • amazing!!!

  • how do u do that omg!!! 5 stars i want it !! im dying for that XD

  • haunting!

  • Makes me think Dolphins and other creatures hear this all the time o.o

  • Very bright idea. You are probably a very bright person, too, being all over a subtle thing like that and turning into something functional.

  • man i was doing a course in electronics when you posted this. i should've magically known this was here, and asked my course-teacher to help me do this stuff. boo! :( all is in ruins all is lost

  • could you make it so that one bowl sends out notes, and another bowl alters the oscillator waveform? would you be able to implement a vortex into the waveform-bowl, so 1) finger-control 2) whirlpool-control of waveform?

  • Yeah, sounds pretty easy. Will have to give it some thought.

  • i want it O_O

  • X-D awesomexorx!!!!

me stupid, so dont repply plz :P

  • BONGWATER NEXT TIME K?

  • It's a Bjork song.

  • This is one of the funniest comments I have read on here! I love Bjork, but it's so true what you said.

  • cool!

  • Have you used any other liquids other than water? you could use a compound with 2x the density. You would get a badass response. Try mineral oil. Good Vid

  • Holy cow you're white and nerdy! But coming from me or Weird Al that is a compliment.

  • What the heck is that supposed to mean? All you can see are his or her hands, and on this you can judge a person's character? Interesting. And I think skin color is really REALLY irrelevant.

  • ME too.

  • beautiful

  • ya...pimp idea..but lets not call this music lol..this is really just some motion detectors hooked up to plauge keys right?...still an awsome idea..with development it could become a pimp instrument

  • thats shit man

  • I believe it may soud better if u play with VODKA!!!

  • lol

  • Very cool. Totally original.

  • whoah thats cool

  • Definitely creative! :)

  • The fish would die from shock. Not even kidding.

  • very clever.

  • im def feeling this.

    Ness

  • That is absolutly fantastic. What a fantastic sound

    ^-^

  • Wtf? GrEaT

  • So, what happens when you replace the water with Jello?

  • lol

  • THAT IS AWSOME

    i know that guy

  • Who is this?

  • Hey, you wouldn't remember me, but u did some recording for a band called young modern, and u came over once (i is the son of Mr. Carroll A.K.A guitarist with fender stratocaster)

  • Oh hi, I can't remember your name, but I can remember your face. Thanks for the comment, mate!

  • You're gonna be famous some day dude, just You Wait! ;)

  • That sounds dumb. How is THAT music ?...it's just noise.

  • Hi there. It doesn't say that what is shown in the video is music. Please note that this is a prototype version, and as such does not represent the variety of output for the finished thing.

  • it doesnt amaze you that these sounds are made by merely sticking your finger in water?

  • What's music other than ordered noise? What's a guitar other than a few tuned plucked string noises?

  • what is or isnt music is determined by the listener. a musician will be walking through town and hear the harmony between a buzzing air conditioner and a truck, hear an apparent rhythm from three non linked events, to that end, as a listener, music is the degree to which you hear order in chaos. rain falling on this would technically be random, but i guarantee people would pick out rhythms.

  • That is pretty nifty, but I don't know why everyone thinks a goldfish would be so cool. I think it would be much more interesting if you used a large tub, add a few pirahna & then maybe throw in a cat to make it really provocative. (no I don't hate cats, it's just a joke people, just a joke)

  • I don't see a goldfish.

  • This is nifty to the max! See, this way you can allow other things to make a variance of different music! On an infinately more complex system, that is.

  • sounds alien-y

  • get a straw and blow some bubbles!!!

  • Its actually pretty tranquil, i could meditate to that.

  • Prototype or not, this is very cool. Thank you for sharing!

  • thats brilliant mate, great work. best of luck with everything else you do too. (marty's bro)

  • Who's "Marty"?

  • very very cool

    did you invent this?

  • Yep.

  • WOW~ THIS IS SO COOL~

  • Genius. Win. All good adjectives ever.

  • the next generation therimin!

  • just one day? lol, what kind of projects do you make when it takes more than one day. this better be on hackaday. awesome work.

  • I don't really have the patience / time for projects that take longer ;-)

  • but if you could it would probably be even more awesome.

well just keep making fun projects for us to see.

  • Nice, never thought of using water this way. Might go try one myself. Thanks for showing this.

  • very cool and original

  • thats incredible!

  • every time i watch that it blows my mind!

  • VERY COOL!!

I'm studying electronics engineering, what sensors are you using?

    very nice.

    Peace!

  • Hi there, the electronics in this are very simple! sorry ;-)

    The sensors are LDRs...

  • wow this just shows ther there are sounds that i cant even say wat i want to say some crazy shit

  • 1000th comment :D This is absolutely beautiful. I can see this kind of thing making stuff like Animusic become reality.

  • Thanks! ;)

  • that;s a really neat idea, amazing!

  • i want one!

  • sounds shit

  • Cool who did u do that??

  • very cool

  • That sucked

  • that sucked my gosh

  • I want a pool like that.

  • Didn't Ben Franklin have one of those?

  • awesome... sorry for all of the dicks who cant respect the thought process that went into this... keep going keep up the good work

  • Thanks!

  • AWESOME!

  • Hey, that was on QAF.

  • ???

  • Queer as folk.

It was a sound in the season 2 dvd set when you were waiting for the video to load.

I always figured it was techno kinda music, but this is really cool.

  • simply amazing congratz

  • Very Cool!!!

  • You call that music? Sounds like computer noises if you ask me. Random bleeps and bloops.

    Still neat, though.

  • Please note that this is a prototype version, and as such does not represent the variety of output for the finished thing.

  • This is awesome! It's so neat to see someone using science for entertainment. :)

  • no more chocolate! 0o

  • cool

  • Very innovative! I like it.

  • Duelling sine waves? big deal! I can make the same noises twirling one of those plastic tube dealies!

  • where can i get one of those - amazing - its on my Xmas list

  • do ya reckon if you hit it with a hammer you would get a smashing sound?

  • sweet! I want to do that!

  • Hook up a toilet and take a dump into it, followed by the sound of flushing waves as it all goes down the drain. LOL

  • fucking epic idea :D

  • one of mankind's greatest ever ideas. maybe change the noise of the machine to play tuba sounds too

  • World War 3 in G minor? I was wondering the same thing, but to the effect of an aquifer or lake. Maybe be a new sonar. It would help undersea exploration. Problem is power consumption. Interesting idea though.

  • Jello wouldnt work as well as water becuase the jello'z surface tension is too high and wouldnt vibrate very easily.

    but very cool

  • How about using mineral oil - better viscosity and longer lasting waves.

  • COOL!
