Hi Annie, YOU ARE SIMPLY WONDERFUL and give so much joy and happiness to your viewers and listeners! Thanks so much for sharing, Janet, and KUDOS from the Philippines to you both! :)
A mature reading of this fine piece of Romantic repertoire. I've normally heard this played by talented 19 year-olds and Annie easily stands up to anything of this nature I've heard before.
@peauensoie "Anyone can become a Concert Pianist" ?????????? What, peauensoie? Why out of half a Billion people who learn the Piano can only a very small number reach the top?
Hi Janet, you must feel so proud. of Annie she is so very special,to be able to make such beautiful music at such a level being so young is beyond just a talented gift but as though she's actually been blessed. Her expressive performance is incredible you can see that she is completely engrossed into her music heart and soul and clearly totally in love with her music.. she has to have an amazing future ahead of her..
I guess the people in the background see this type of thing all the time but my jaw would be on the table everytime a little kid played something like this.
ALSO: Practice slowly always! It helps the most, you never need to practice fast, unless you want to see if you can perform at your performance tempo. You tend to play things much better when you study the score slowly... it doesn't mean you won't learn fast... infact you might learn 300% faster! lol & Be very critical of you're playing that is all! This girl plays so wonderfully... sometimes its better to listen to the art of others for sanitys sake!!
Correction to Hiroshima49's comment. If you can't play like this in 12 years of lessons/self-study/whatever, then you can't become a concert pianist. I started piano when I was 19(I'm 21 now) and I can learn any piece I wish too. It is hardwork to get there, but it doesn't take long. Practice about 4 to 11 hours 6 days a week and you should get there! Also don't be afraid to learn pieces way above your skill... teachers say not too, only because they weren't able to fight the difficulty!
Oh that is so sweet and wonderfully played by this wonder-child...GREAT! She has everything... not only technique like many others....She is different...and great.
Beaucoup de talent chez cette jolie jeune fille ! Très belle interprétation de Chopin; son jeune âge en fait une future virtuose du piano !! Formidable ! Bravo, chère mademoiselle.
While one is entitled to dislike the playing of the Chopin by this little girl for whatever reason, nobody can dispute her musical ability at this age as shown in the clip.
@Hiroshima49 She definitely has music ability and although I just came across one of her videos today let me say, I am a fan. She may still have areas to work on but she plays Chopin better than half of the concert pianists out there--old balding men that have played for 30+ years...the girl has talent and I am surprised at how many people have negative comments to make about her obvious talent and ability.
You played a piece at age 9 that took me 2 months to learn with 17 years worth of piano playing experience under my belt. I'm sure most people tell you this but you truly are talented.
amazing for one so young. I hope the metacarpels of her hands are not damaged by those stretches.. so much expression, fearless at that age and so much heart .. I wonder what she feels and understands by these sounds...
ur kidding!!!! a bach invention to FANTASIE IMPROMTU IN 1 YEAR!!!!!!!!! I played the 13th invention last year, and i aint playing this 4 atleast 2 more years!
it's difficult yes, but definitely not to any extreme degree. What catches me about this recording though is two things: first is that parts of the left hand must be reasonably difficult for a nine year old to play granted their hand span as compared to an adult. The other things is her tone quality. The recording doesn't have amazing audio, however it is easy to tell that she knows how to make the notes ring on the piano. my admiration is great for this girl :) keep it up
@1234567bryce but bryce playing the piano is not about sizes in some cases its about speed to move them at this piece..you get what i mean? overall shes really tlented :D
wow shes freakin good!!!! kids in high school struggle with piece...not only in high school but some adults. wow. keep up the good work. i wish i have the talent u do...im trying to master mendelssohn's seriouses variations right now and it so hard! u must be 1 year younger than me now...wow.
Such an amazing pianist. The emotion she puts in is phenomenal T_T. Trying to learn this piece atm. It's proving very difficult. I don't know how her tiny fingers manage lol.
@floydrharper true i can play this one but not as good as this one but i can assume if i had started playing when i was at her age i could have been playing as well as her :D
"This is a known belief." That's really a contradictory statement. A belief is not a fact, so the statement has no relevance.
Every religion "believes" theirs to be the correct one according to their God. Which is correct? None of them and all of them, depending on who you ask.
Simply put, society wants younger, faster, little "geniuses". This is why the younger musician gets the scholarship, because there is a "belief" that he will somehow be better in the end. BS.
What you've just said is contradicting. It depends extremely on the fact if you've been in lessons or not. I'm 17, self-taught, and I play by ear at a level 10+ level, but my sight and theory are low so I play at level 7/8. I'm now in lessons since my family can afford it. Anyone can become a concert pianist, or cellist, etc if they just work hard at it. That's my dream and my teacher who used to be a concert pianist but is now retired even told me she has hopes for me.
@peauensoie Nope. Not anyone can. Everyone can but only 0.01% makes al living just by performances, your vision is clogged up by blissful dreams that will never happen. One opinion does not mean much, your 17, your quite old, have you preformed in competitions and recitals yet? And how do we even know you speak the truth with no videos showing your skill level yet on your channel?
and your point is? You said there are exceptions, so there you go. But I was never arguing about your statement that no one can be a concert pianist if they didn't have formal training at a young age..
I simply pointed out the fact that your two statements contradicted each other.. in one you said age has nothing to do with it, implying that age matters not... while in the second you made the claim about age being directly related to success as a concert pianist..
While age may not have much at all to do with it, you contradicted yourself nonetheless, though unintentionally. Age does have something to do with it, going with your statement, but just not in the way that that someone has commented. Anyway, I do know several concert pianists (and piano teachers) who did not start at a young age and didn't even major in music.. and have later (after college) become "pro's" and very learned composers w/great technique and skill.
In short, I don't think that age has much to do with it.. it's just most people give up after a certain age 'cause society dictates many things and even the success of people.. but if one would keep practicing and playing (like seriously, not playing for fun because one doesn't believe he is capable of reaching any point beyond the scope of his imagination), one may very well succeed. I think it has more to do with mental age, which really isn't "age", per se
Choice and ability are two separate things. One can have the choice to become a doctor with the ability and potentials of becoming a real pianist while a doctor cannot expect even to play a tune correctly if he has never been exposed to music during his young age...say between 15 or 20. Hard work only pays off for those born with music... In my experience, music cannot be learnt when you haven't got it. Those talented few you have met were exceptions I mentioned before.
they're termed "exceptions" only 'cause there aren't many of them.. just as the societal labels for the "abnormal". Plus, there are many "born with music" who lack the practice (perhaps due to reasons that aren't so changeable, ie. family objections) which prevent them from becoming who they really want to (and believe they ought to) be.
It is very difficult for a grown-up to reach a standard in piano playing comparable to that of any great players especially if he or she has had no musical training in childhood. I guess, a brain expert can explain why a child can make incredibly faster progress in learning the piano than perhaps a 20-year old who has no prior experience in playing the instrument. Mozart would not have been Mozart if he had not started his musical training at an early age.
While most people may agree with you on this, it is in fact a myth. Sure, children at a young age can acquire knowledge at an amazing rate, but the brain keeps developing and it's usually and mostly the individual's own personal beliefs that prevent one from achieving their goals that require some "brain work".. their brains are still very capable and don't "wear off" 'til years later.. and can acquire skills just as fast but most people don't believe that, and people fulfill their own beliefs
I'd like to end the discussion here, no point in continuing. There will always be people with different beliefs.. but I don't generalize people like that.. I believe that every individual is unique and hence isn't bound to any "rules" or "laws" that society has projected upon us as a whole. It's all about personal experience, and of course there will always be a "norm" in everything.. & of course one should have musical background or insight or it will be difficult.. but age doesn't matterasmuch
Intelligence is compartmentalized, it's not a whole measure of one's ability to wholly perceive, understand, and apply all skills/knowledge.. musical ability is an intelligence, to me. It's usually awarded to the younger of equally skillful musicians due to many reasons, including "natural" biases that we don't even consider biases. A known belief isn't a proven belief.. and a belief can't be proven, even if there's "scientific evidence". Reality's only our own perceptions of it..
Your "almost" obviously contradicts the "fact" part. Again, you're generalizing.. it's on an individual basis, as I've said. There are always exceptions, and this discussion shouldn't even take place. Your statements are mere generalizations based on this (and perhaps historical) populations. It may seem almost impossible to certain ppl, but for those who have achieved it(I know one such person too) it's definitely not impossible. You see the "fact" you stated is merely a generalization.
@Hiroshima49 thats a pretty ignorant comment, im 14 and i can play songs harder than this, yet i just can't get the timing right on this song, u should reformulate ur sentence maybe. just because ur not able to play one song doesnt mean ur nnot going to become a concert pianist, i can play la campanella and chopin polonaise héroique and his grand polonaise brillante in e flat major, so dont start putting down people's hopes and dreams, like you've probably done to many people right now
@Hiroshima49 I'd like to know based on what do you do that statement. The age at which you play a piece has nothing to do with your future as a concert pianist, I believe. Where's the connection? Besides, it depends on how many time has the person been taking lessons, if it ever even has. A person doesn't play Op.66 by nature instinct just because it's turned 15. What you say has no point.
@wolf2272 It is extremely difficult for a grown-up to learn to play a piece like that if he or she has not had any musical experiences since childhood. Of course, there may be exceptions. If a child is truly talented, he or she would have reached that kind of standard at a very young age, under the guidance of a good teacher. Hard work cannot replace talent and only those with talent and are prepared to work hard will make it to the concert platform.
@Hiroshima49 I agree with you in that; it is like learning a language: much easier at age 10 than at age 60! Maybe you didn't get very clear on your first comentary. But, what about a child, aged maybe 14, that can't play Chopin's Op.66, not because he's not talented, but because he or she hasn't ever had any musical training? I believe that's when it would get difficult, despite the young and favorable age...
@wolf2272 I believe that certain connections in the brain facilitating music learning have to to established at a young age. Once that age is passed, learning becomes difficult. An average talented child is able to memorize and play a Chopin, an Etude or Scherzo etc., with only a few sittings. To a grown-up with no prior musical training, the learning could take a life time.
@boynt0nbeachboy Unfortunately, passion and hard work cannot replace a gift from God. Only the very gifted could make it to the concert platform...with hard work. Watch Milos Forman's film "Amadeus".
Annie--Wonderful tone! Fine, unified interpretation! You seem to produce your beautiful tone with your whole body, naturally. Such tone is really rare. If I were sitting right at the piano, I'm sure I'd hear certain things differently, but I wish I could hear the final 4 sixteenth notes in measures 5 and 6 more clearly. I also miss hearing the opening 5 or 6 notes of the melody sing out more in the bass at the end of the piece (the right-hand accompaniment seems to cover them up a little).
Brings a tear to my eye! You are amazing Annie - such a talent. I do hope you manage to have some 9 year old fun at times too though. You certainly deserve it. Best wishes.
OMG!!!!!! I have never in my life seen anything like this. There are amazing kids on UTube but this ....there are no words!!!!!!! She plays with such feeling too...incredible. We'll be seeing her CD's out there one day!
This pianist s a spirit from heaven truly amazing. She can't really understand what she is comunicating but she IS comunicating meaning all the same, her teachers have done a very good job indeed..
bigbono12: I don't agree that she "can't understand what she is communicating."
At 9, the aesthetic appreciation for music is intuitive and may surpass intensity of an experienced adult. At age 7, I was blown away by the music of Schubert. Likewise the ineffible ectasies Annie knows, transcend experience or language. "Awesome" Annie has a profound intuitive grasp of what she is doing. It comes from her soul and pierces your heart and my heart.
oooo myy goddddd she left me with mouth open she is awsome incredible fantastic!!! no words!!!! she is perfect perfect this song is soooo difficult for a really young girl!
well little kids sometimes keep time by certain movements, maybe of the feet or head, in this case she sways her whole body to keep the whole note pulse in her head, instead of sitting still keeping pulse like a robot...
Eine Meisterleistung! - So etwas Gefühlvolles, so ein Einsatz, die Körperbewegungen! So etwas - für ein Kind in diesem Alter! - habe ich noch kein zweites Mal gesehen! - Fantastisch! - Bravo! Kompliment! - Sie wird die Pianistin von morgen!
probably scared the other 9 year olds shitless

YouVRay 2 years ago
not sure if I've expressed myself well enough, but as I've said before this discussion is pointless. No more replies, thanks.

@Hiroshima49 thats a pretty ignorant comment, im 14 and i can play songs harder than this, yet i just can't get the timing right on this song, u should reformulate ur sentence maybe. just because ur not able to play one song doesnt mean ur nnot going to become a concert pianist, i can play la campanella and chopin polonaise héroique and his grand polonaise brillante in e flat major, so dont start putting down people's hopes and dreams, like you've probably done to many people right now
funnybooboo8 1 year ago 2
@funnybooboo8 The world we live in is extremely unkind and cruel, especially to talented kids trying to become musicians.
Hiroshima49 1 year ago
@Hiroshima49 I'd like to know based on what do you do that statement. The age at which you play a piece has nothing to do with your future as a concert pianist, I believe. Where's the connection? Besides, it depends on how many time has the person been taking lessons, if it ever even has. A person doesn't play Op.66 by nature instinct just because it's turned 15. What you say has no point.
wolf2272 1 year ago
@wolf2272 It is extremely difficult for a grown-up to learn to play a piece like that if he or she has not had any musical experiences since childhood. Of course, there may be exceptions. If a child is truly talented, he or she would have reached that kind of standard at a very young age, under the guidance of a good teacher. Hard work cannot replace talent and only those with talent and are prepared to work hard will make it to the concert platform.
Hiroshima49 1 year ago
@Hiroshima49 I agree with you in that; it is like learning a language: much easier at age 10 than at age 60! Maybe you didn't get very clear on your first comentary. But, what about a child, aged maybe 14, that can't play Chopin's Op.66, not because he's not talented, but because he or she hasn't ever had any musical training? I believe that's when it would get difficult, despite the young and favorable age...
wolf2272 1 year ago
@wolf2272 Thank you for your understanding...music is a language, no doubt about it.
Hiroshima49 1 year ago
@wolf2272 I believe that certain connections in the brain facilitating music learning have to to established at a young age. Once that age is passed, learning becomes difficult. An average talented child is able to memorize and play a Chopin, an Etude or Scherzo etc., with only a few sittings. To a grown-up with no prior musical training, the learning could take a life time.
Hiroshima49 1 year ago
@Hiroshima49 and i thought you said age has nothing to do with this?
realmsoffire 1 year ago
@realmsoffire ....that was made responding to a comment that she was too young to play this music.
Hiroshima49 1 year ago
@Hiroshima49 obviously you wouldn't know what passion and hard work is
boynt0nbeachboy 1 year ago

Dear Janet,

This pianist s a spirit from heaven truly amazing. She can't really understand what she is comunicating but she IS comunicating meaning all the same, her teachers have done a very good job indeed..
bigbono12 2 years ago 2
bigbono12: I don't agree that she "can't understand what she is communicating."
It comes from her soul and pierces your heart and my heart.

well little kids sometimes keep time by certain movements, maybe of the feet or head, in this case she sways her whole body to keep the whole note pulse in her head, instead of sitting still keeping pulse like a robot...

Wow! First of all its amazing she is playing a piece as difficult as this.-and she is 9!
But also, what differs her from other Youtube prodigies is that plays with emotion!
There is no sense in playing Chopin without an expression of emotion. She is very mature lyrically and musically.(5*)
