@overbrookXXX Well, of course, the double-tracking was how the recording was originally made, but I understand what you're saying. Thanks for the note.
@TheClam88 I remember watching the bass player in those days and he played the first Fender Jazz we ever saw. That's why I had to buy one or have a fit. It took a lot of saving to pay for one but when I felt that neck it was worth it for sure.
@69Migg - I do believe it was before the invasion.. Actually if it wasn't for this type of musician and others the Beatles would not be where they are. After all they credit to a lof of these artists. At least Beatles were honest and humble that way.
A great Ricky Nelson song. He did a lot of music so evocative of the time in which he spent his youth. He passed far too soon and so tragically. Thanks for this post.
A lot of people who listen to Ricky's version of this song don't realize that it was written in 1940 by Johnny Mercer who gave the world so many songs. A few of his songs were able to make the transition to Rock n Roll.

Hooray! One must always acknowledge the musicians. Thank you for James Burton. Rick's voice was on top form at this point in his career. This released version was the 6th out of very many takes. Brilliant
This song has been trotting through my head for days.I loved playing my mum's old 45's.And today the music from those days and the rock'n'roll days are still my favourites
@RoxxtheOldies2 best way i can put it, it's the look you give your lover in the bedroom that says: "hey baby, lets make some sweet lovin'... right now" without ever speaking a word.
Have to agree with all the comments about the great guitar work. James Burton went on to join Elvis's backing band after the break with Scotty Moore and Bill Black.
The lead guitar work and guitar lead break on this record are absolutely AWESOME! Really creative and super-sharp. It's a combination of rockabilly with even a bit of classical mixed in. The entire arrangement, with that upbeat bongo flavor is really captivating, and of course, Rick Nelson's ever-resonant voice makes it a joy to listen to.
James makes one brief "tud" on his lead at 1:34, which is barely audible.................... If this was recorded today on Pro Tools, the engineer would simply lift a proper note from another portion of the recording and pop it in.
I play guitar and I've done this same thing for a recording.
Since his death in a private plane crash on New Year's Eve, 1985, it had been speculated that the fire that caused the crash was the result of drug use - supposedly freebasing cocaine. This theory has since been discredited by, among other sources, the U.S. National Transportation Safety Board in their official report on the crash. Their evidence shows that the cause originally given for the crash (an on-board heater short-circuiting and catching fire) is the correct one.
I LOVED RICKY NELSON AND IT WAS SO SAD NOT ONLY THAT HE DIED BUT THE WAY HE DIED. SO SAD NEARLY ALL CHILD STARS GET ON SOME SORT OF DRUGS AND END UP WITH SUCH A SAD ENDING. THOUGH HE IS GONE THIS IS LIKE GOING BACK IN A TIME ZONE, THANKS FOR THE POST.
nice girly girl song, huh buck;)? ta for all the vids ya sent last night..you didn't muck about with the sentimental lassie songs, lol..nice rem, 3 doors down, dr. hook & tiffani no less...quite a bit o' beauty you sent my way, a gro mo chroi..sorry if ricky nelson is too swanky for ya, you can handle it, you have your 'tallica posts to offset the syrup, lol...p.s. i noticed you didn't fave any of those sent my way, except for rem's this ones for the one i love...lovely vine that;) xo jillykidd
Awesome Song by Ricky (later-Rick) Nelson!! This version and the version by Brook Benton (Hint Hint) are my Favorites of this Great Song! Thanks so much for posting!!
I think Ricky nelson, with the raw talent he had, could have went higher, maybe a little lower
than Elvis, cause Elvis was more versatile, yet, he could have went higher. maybe it was due
to his people, his mangers. Elvis was fortunate enough to keep his career going thru the movies
even when his singing career was in a slump. The difference is, he kept himself out there, & Ricky didn't have a movie career to also.

Really? What about poor little fool, it's up to you, garden party, Thery'll never be anyone

stays so steady he could sing thru a windstorm". He was good!

@Coolrockndad Yes but Not on his recording of FRI. Rick's version is superior to Elvis'. Both versions feature James Burton guitarist.

James is playing around with some minor chicken-pickin of the chords
between :50 and :63. Sounds really cool. Palm mutes too. Great stuff.
