@rando4038 thats not a true statement. Around 1992/93 they cut the bag dorm also before the superliner transition. Look at the my video Amtrak's Brand New Genesis Locomotives and Classic Amtrak City of New Orleans 1993.
its a shame they didnt keep the F40s in service would have been alot cheaper to refurbish them instead of wasting money on the P40 and P42s by GE those are junk and the carbody is just ugly in my opinion
@randyb327 - Randy, the F40s had poor fuel mileage due to the constant running of the engine in notch-8 to power the HEP system. Inpsite of their teething problems the GE P40 and 42 series are very fuel efficient, emit less pollution, and are easier on the rails. (although I don't like their "commercial airliner wannabe" appearance either). A friend of mine who was an SCL engineer and ran the Silver Meteor and Silver Star trains had his hearing permanently damaged by the F40s high rpms.
Those are good shots. Glad your dad took you out there to shoot those vids. I do miss seeing the F40s though. Except for the E units, those F40s just had the looks of a real passenger engine.
Awesome stuff here!! Im glad you got to spend time with your dad doing this growing up....my old man was never into trains. And now my son Nate and I go out all the time.
2:04 - the paint was wearing off on the side your father shot from on the first unit, but the second was 201; 2:56 - it is indeed 211; 4:36 - it is indeed 204. Great footage!
@WhistlepostWP I have got to watch your stuff! Had no idea you had this type of footage, takes me back to seeing the Crescent in the late 70's and early 80's in Austell! Does your son record videos now? Just wondering, heard you talking to him in there.
@DJGENEX71 yeah, my dad recorded this. Yes, I am the son (Jared) that accompanied him LOL. I'm converting this footage to DVD before the VHS tapes go bad. My dad let me start recording in 1995 when I was in 3rd grade. Majority of the newer videos on my profile were recorded by me =D.
we have number 307 at the nctm and is awaiting to b restored

@WhistlepostWP My bad, it was YOU he was talking to in the video(s)!!! Very cool!!!
I surely wish I had some videos like this from when my dad and I used to go see the trains. Sadly he died when I was 12.
