@realSteak86 Actually I am wearing earplugs in this video. Look closely. They are skin color but a bit off of my color. When I was younger I made the mistake of not wearing them much while playing. Yes I have some damage to my hearing. I always wear them now. RVP
Try to put the thing on thats write down what he says at the start there stands: By tonight and that you advance drumming here in the fall agian that the cigarret are little. And great video btw. :)

Yo vansdrumming, if you wish to get better in basketball, you need to start sticking with a genuine training routine. I used the nba training prog here 50-inch-vertical(dot)com. I haven t even told this to my basketball teammates yet ha
randy random question... what mics are you using to mic your kit? building a recording studio in my basement and looking to buy some new gear and was wondering what you recommended?

vansdrumming you play ball? you have to check this out - (50 inch vertical [dot] com) - It's a specialized training workout that will make sure you start dunking without even going to the gym , it's optional!
now do that with right-left-foot with the hi hat locked on ur starting hand...its easy, just getting it up tp speed is hard....chk out my channel for a video of it
#VIDEOPOSTERID# I'm only 5 6 and I dunk nonstop. I m in my high school's ball team and my dunking wows everyone (like the girls haha). It was honestly extremely simple, I just used the nba training program over at 50 inch vertical (dot) com - I m sure you can probably do it too
Hey I have a question. I watched this video and I started practicing double-handed crossovers. Great vid, btw. How can I come up with more patterns and combinations for crossovers, for use in solos, fills, and grooves? What are some good practice methods for them, to get faster and have new combos? -thanks a lot!
vansdrumming, unbelievable that is OD. That's coming from a guy who s 5 5 but do windmill dunks. I followed the dunk training program over at 50inch vertical[dot]com and increased past 13 ins on my jump.
Hey great lesson, RVP. I was just wondering what the name of the technique you used in the solo at the end on the snare was, kind of like a pick up to the beat on the snare, slow at first and then quicker adding accents. Or perhaps if you have a video on it?
i hav a question... can you plz make a video for how to record drums with the least mics used. cause i hav a bad budget.. it will be a great favour.. thx alooot..

I really enjoy watching and practicing on your videos every time you post one, i think you are a great teacher and you always have good ideas for patterns and special effects. Thank you!
Thanks Randy - and keep talking! That's what makes RVP vids so enjoyable. and as for wimpy... It's just a shame there are so many keyboard guerillas eh? They're always so much better at things than we are ;)
Dude,if you're going to tell someone who has been playing drums before you even got laid you should probobly know atleast a little bit what you're talking about, seriously.
even if you do know plenty about music in general,he can still take a huge pile of shit and FLING it AT the drum set and STILL have more skill than 90% of the people watching his videos,so blah
Yes,yes sir i do,but first off i wanted to say that on youtube, you are one of the best drum teachers on here and i try to learn as much as i can from you :D.and as far as no power, that guys a DUMBASS....
Lolol, im pretty sure Randy's been thrown th' good & th bad. He would't care to much what people say, he knows he's a twisted half baked comedian, just so happens, this comedian can play, lol. Alway's alway's a pleasure to see th' "Vans Man" doin his stuff.
Hey Randy, is that cross over stuff still applicable to short reach people such as myself ?, ;) Great Vids.
hock3ydud3 is typical of the individuals who have nothing better to do that criticize every video they can find. Mind you, they don't post any of their own to prove their skill level, they just continue to insinuate they are somehow a percussion prodigy. RVP has the ability to explain the concepts, demonstrate the concepts, and apply the concepts he teaches. and THAT is what makes a truly great teacher and drummer. In other words, show us what you've got or go away. Thanks 4 all u do RVP!
I never said he wasn't good asshole, I just said he should talk less otherwise people might get bored before the lesson actually begins. YOU seem to be the typical individual who likes to attack anyone on youtube that you can, for no other reason than to be an asshole. I never said I was good at drums, and I don't think I'm better than him, so I'm not sure where you're pulling this supposed knowledge of my character from.
Easy there Lumpy, you don't have to stoop to profanity to make your point; I'll listen. I didn't mean to offend your sensibilities but, I haven't found anyone else who thinks RVP talks too much. As to attacking YT participants, well feel lucky; you're the first. In the future perhaps your criticism should be less "I usually leave your videos..." and more, "Could you please, explain, be more succinct, etc.." Knowledge of your character I gained from the earlier post and the profanity
If you find it so annoying, why do you continue to watch? This guy has taught us all so much drum tastyness over the years, and all you can do is whine... you are a true loser. Some people actually like his teaching style ( like myself), and can respect a true master.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
you talk to much, i usually leave your videos before you even start playing because the talking just sounds like rambling. try to tone it down a notch?
Kind of hard to teach something to someone without explaining it. No? So many people complain that most lessons out there don't explain enough, they just demo the groove. I don't think anyone benifits from someone just playing a groove. Besides... I get more people telling me that I talk too fast. Now you are telling me I talk too much. Huh... People really complain a lot when these are FREE lessons. RVP
You're too long winded about it, the entire first part of just talking could have been sooo much shorter if you take into account that you said all that stuff again when you finally got on your kit. I'm not complaining either, I'm simply letting you know about something and trying to be helpful - my mistake. Also, just because these lessons are free does not give you any justifications for reacting this way to someone trying to be helpful.
not social? Because I don't feel like sitting through him talking forever one time and then having to sit through it again when he plays? I was just trying to give him a tip, apparently the youtube assholes will criticize you no matter what.
Im a guitarplayer not a drummer and I love watching this guy play. Hes kinda goofey but hes an excellent teacher and really takes the time to explain things which many good musicians dont do.
Very nice lesson. I think I would end up whacking my left wrist with my right stick doing that crossover to the upper tom though. It looks like the stick just goes right through your arm from that angle. Your speed is also very impressive.
i'm pretty sure that solo at the end was the double handed cross over technique that he just taught us - with some variations as to what he's hitting. =)
Man, that is some epic bad technique. You don't get good stroke power when you're turning your right wrist over and over and back over again. Where the hell do they teach this style? Seriously, anyone, who plays like this?
i did this with my snare and hihat once and saw some guy do it and was told is was by mike portnoy... i thought i made it up :) its fun to play on hihat too.. try it out

You are doing an excellent work. I enjoy watching your videos so much, especially the "high hat stomp" vid was really, really awesome! :-)
I also like your way of teaching. Its funny, but informative as well!
Anyway, i have just spotted that you dont use earplugs during your vids. Do you put on some ear protection during practice?
'Cause i wondered, if you are expecriencing any problems with your hearing capabilities, after over 30 years of more or less excessive drumming?

Man, that is some epic bad technique. You don't get good stroke power when you're turning your right wrist over and over and back over again. Where the hell do they teach this style? Seriously, anyone, who plays like this?

seriously, wtf

Been working for me for over 30 years. Don't seem to have a loss of stroke power. RVP

Would you show us some advantages or just some licks that would make using a floor tom to the left of the snare more convenient, please?

Thank you for another wonderful video! I am curious as to where you place the kick drum beat? On 1/4's or something funky? Again Thanks

Sir van, which do u prefer? evan drumheads or remo pinstripe on the toms? i just noticed that your toms have a solid sound w/o any mufflers.

I hear a lot of gospel/hiphop drummers use this technique but I wasn't quite sure how because of the speed used in the fill.
