Superb ad. Shame it didn't sell well in France cos it would've kept better with the sunny weather and all. They'd just have to put a hell of a lot more rubbing strips on the doors to cope with other french drivers. I owned a black 2200HLS with beige interior. It was mint. Wish I still had it.
Okay I am German, but I truely admire the brithish subtile style and humor of this very very nice and lovely made TV Spot, today not one single add has this subtile and friendly humour..Thank you brithis leyland for this, I will buy the first Leyland Princess 2,2 Litres I can find in Germany....I dont like todays ugly plastic bombers called blue economy etc... Who needs a BENZ if you can own an Leyland Princess?!?
@officialraf Too true! Even Rolls-Royce is a shadow of its former self. And those new Lotus F1 cars at the back of the grid every race... and that big Mini, urgh.
I wonder if this advert is pieced together from several little clips, you know because it's quite a struggle getting this thing to go for 50 seconds straight! What an awful car

.......................one of the worst cars ever made!! BL made shit cars!! Of course you have to blame the greedy "out on strike" brummies for the decline of the Emglish car Industry!!
I sort of agree but there was much more to it than that. Poor management,poor development, poor quality control, a model range that was in direct competition with itself e.g, allegro 1300,marina 1300, dolomite 1300 all pitched to the same market..they came up with some great designs, Princess and sd1 for example but they were not built propery
brettdude92, I doubt they had austin leyland princess's in america cos many british cars back then were'nt exported 2 america as much as manufactors do now.(I think so, anyway!) :)

the first car in the world with concealled wipers

I drive a 1973 Dodge with concealed wipers, and the Princess didn't begin production until 1975.

@niels0827
I think 1968 Corvette and 1969 Opel Diplomat / Admiral were the first cars with
hidden wipers.

I only have a few old car adverts on tape, most of which are already on YouTube by other people. No more Princesses either. Sorry.

ok thanks for that, always thought the princess was a nice looking car. Very rare now though!

Years ago I saw an older Autsin Princess. It had a Ford Mustang engine put in. It was only $1600 dollars, I should have bought it!

If you ever visit New Zealand, you will STILL see Leyland Princess (and Marinas) on the roads driven as daily transport...
