I go cycling in Fairmant Park, near where I live in Philly, and the pedestrians there are SO STUPID around cyclists-especially females! I am sorry if that offends, but women are awful around vehicles of any kind. I am not surprised that the person hit was a female.

Years ago in a criterium I ran into a Chinese woman who literally stepped off a sidewalk as I was rounding a corner right in front of me. My upper body clipped her and she went flying and I got bad road rash.

Motorists have no more right to the road than a bike travelling at speed in the same direction. Pedestrians on the other hand, have different rights.

The paved road was built specifically for an engine powered vehicle dipshit.

Unless u have a motorbike that can reach speeds u need to get off the road.

One hit and it's all over for u.

Cars have safety features, bikers....yeah they have helmets and some padding I guess but they can at the very least keep up with traffic.

U guys on the other hand have nothing but a cheap helmet, and some spandex for safety.

It's like asking to be hit.

By your logic tractors, mopeds AND cyclists would be banned since they move at far less than the posted speed (yet all by law have equal access to the road)

Pedestians always have the right of way?Next time a pedestrian walks out into traffic without using a crosswalk and gets slammed by a car, let me know if the officer tickets the driver for not yielding right of way to the ped.

WOW, I know the whole Priority Health team personally(due to them staying at my house during the Tour de Toona) and they told me about this video. Robbie King (his brother) told me to check it out, and WOW! Poor Teddy takes a dive due to a stupid lady, and I love how Glen just looks down at her and gets back in the car haha.

Thanks for commenting. I pulled this raw video off of a Bay Area news station's website and I was never able to find any information regarding the crash. I would love to know if Ted was injured at all and how he fared during the rest of the tour.

Both Ted and the woman ended up being just fine. As the video shows, he's back on the bike pretty quickly and ended up finishing the entire Tour of Cali. The woman had some bumps and bruises, but as the race medical staff was helping her to her feet, apparently she asked how Ted was doing... I guess she was feeling badly???

If you watch for the women you can see that she is very close to the peloton so the rider who was on the outside determined that he had to go around her to avoid hitting her. Problem was that at the same time she ran back away from the road. Stupid camera lady.

I talked to Ted soon after the accident. Here's the scoop: the woman was kneeling IN the road looking at the race go by through her camera. She looked up as the cyclists were waving for her to get off the road. She misinterpretted this as friendly hellos from the friendly cyclist. When she realized she was standing in the road, she tried leaping out of the way... and directly into the escape path for Ted. 1 oblivious spectator + 1 cyclist going 25 mph = big crash.

he tried to go round the lady because she was standing right on the edge of the peloton probably taking pictures. if she was standing further back he would not have had to try and avoid her.

There are times when spectators are actually standing IN the road.

This one was a case where they gave no room for error. The rider had nowhere else to go.
